      hey whats up im new.

I used to have great dream recall but over the last few months i can't seem to remember much of any. Should i keep working on dream recall before trying any of the LD techniques?

WELCOME! Nice to see new members.

I would definitely work on dream recall first. Start a dream journal for a few weeks, and I would say do research, such as read tutorials and books before starting, because you don't want to start out doing it wrong. There are also classes on here that you can do. have fun, and welcome to DV!

      Welcome to DV!

Dream recall is the first and one of the most important steps to take. How did you manage to get so good a recall in the first place? Just pay attention to your dreams and try to improve your recall and it'll come back in no time. After that you can focus on getting lucid.

You can always visualize and get used to the techniques whilst improving your recall, but put more energy into the recall.

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

I agree, that getting your recall up to par is important. Dream journal will help you with that. Write in it everything, even if all you remember is a fragment. Also appreciating your dreams and telling that to yourself will help.

Start with this Beginners guide. It will tell you the basics. Once you decide on induction technique, check out the details in DV Wiki.

Method called DILD is in general recommended for someone who is just starting out with lucid dreaming. I also recommend you read up on DEILD, just in case you find yourself in favorable conditions unexpectedly.

Other than tutorials in Wiki, here is a few more:

Please, don't hesitate to ask any questions. Happy dreams

Oh! and also if you are doing this, then try to enjoy all of your dreams, you will get frustrated if you do not. Remember that normal dreams are pretty awesome too.

What do you think has changed? Are you doing anything differently? Sometimes it is easy to get so caught up in trying new things, we forget the basics. Don't let your recall slip.

Hi! Tell me something. Do you wake up really tired? Do you get enough sleep? I feel as though your dream recall is easier/better if you are going to sleep healthy (on time).

      Hello.

Make sure that you practice your dream recall first. If you don't, then there's a good chance that you might have a lucid dream--and then not be able to recall anything about it. You might not even know that you had it when you wake up! So, yeah, don't go back into lucidity just yet. You're in the same boat that I'm in--I have to get back into dream recall, too.

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

Check out this beginners guide to lucid dreaming first of all.

Yes, you should focus on your recall before focusing on lucid dreaming. You can actually forget a lucid dream! So you can see why recall is important. Here is Dreamviews's dream recall tutorial. Hopefully it helps.

Good luck! Hopefully your recall will come back soon and you can get lucid. If you have questions, please ask.

I don't see the harm in practicing lucid dreaming. It isn't like you can only have so many, so you don't want to waste them. Regular dreams are fun also. I don't want to forget any dreams. You may be able to forget a lucid as well, but who's to say having a lucid won't kick-start recall?...or that it would simply help remember that one dream. It might be so different from the dreams he typically has that he remembers the lucid.

Bottom line: let's say you forget your lucid. While not a desirable outcome, so what?
