      Trouble getting into Sleep Paralysis

      Hey guys.

So i recently got into lucid dreaming and astral projection the past few weeks. After reading on forums and blogs i got the impression that WILD is the best method, and to use WILD you must first go into sleep paralysis. And i am having trouble getting into sleep paralysis. Well ironically over the years i have had this problem with involuntarily sleep paralysis. It was a problem at first because it scared me. Then i thought it kinda cool. But then i had no idea what it was and had no idea i could OBE from it or go into a lucid dream. So after a bit of research i found some techniques and tips and tricks and whatnots all over the web.

Well . . . it turns out it is alot harder to "willingly" go into sleep paralysis than i thought. I don't know i might not be concentrating enough or im doing something wrong. I lay in bed perfectly still and try to focus on my breathing and my heartbeat. Something is definatley going on because i get the tingly sensation all over, and the pins and needles feeling and the ringing in my ears. But just when i think im getting really close i suddenly wake up three hours later, fell asleep through the whole thing. And this happens often.

But Just a couple hours ago when i got home from college i decided to take one of my usual naps and thought that i should give this thing a try one more time. So this time i finally do it, im in sleep paralysis. In all of the excitement, i try the rope technique for the very first time. I don't know what went wrong but something was going on, I knew i was starting to feel myself leave my body, but all the sudden i woke myself up. Now looking back i think i got all too excited and did the rope method too fast. Maybe i should of waited and let the paralysis sink in for a bit? What do you guys think? Do you think you know what i might be doing wrong? Can you guys tell me the methods you used when you first started? I would really appreciate it if you guys could help me out.

First: Welcome to DV, Aiden! Now for the bad news:

Sleep paralysis is not necessary for WILD, or LD'ing in general, regardless of what you might have read. I suggest you read through Mzzkc's excellent thread, Sleep Paralysis Demystified, before you continue. Quite a bit has been written about "SP" on this and other forums that has very little to do with reality. I suggest that you browse the tutorials and DVA for more sound advice on becoming lucid... you might even visit my DVA WILD class, though I must warn you that in it I mention SP as just so much noise encountered on the way to lucidity.

Okay, hopefully now someone will come on and tell you what you want to hear !

Good luck, and see you around the forums!

Btw those 3 supplements i told you about will most likely get you into sleep paralysis in about 10-15 mins. From there you can choose to OBE or Lucid dream. What i recommend is getting those supplements. That way youll be able to master Lucid dreaming. now once youve mastered or can atleast LD at will, youll be able to Astral Project from within your Lucid dream just by willing it (: Congrats! You've mastered 2 things by only Practicing 1 xD Pm me for more info

      ^^ Oh.

But those are the current "standard" formula for helping LD's, have been in use for years by many dreamers, and this is the first I've ever heard of them getting dreamers into "SP" at all, much less in 10-15 minutes (certainly never happened to me, for what its worth). Aside from "SP" -- aka the witnessing of REM Atonia -- not really being important to LD'ing, the main effect of these supplements seem to be centered around heightening the things that make you aware that you are dreaming, and the things that help you remember what you dreamed; affecting "SP" never seemed part of their program.

You might be having a unique reaction to these supplements, ReaperOfSouls...
