Having flu... And it's one week before Chinese New Year.

And I've got lots of homework to do... If I don't heal, I wouldn't be able to eat junk food during Chinese New Year.

I'm feeling sick too. My sister sneezed on me; that's probably what did it.

Now I'm having troubles recalling my dream. And it is important to me.

I was disturbed so badly by my mother. She moved to live with me in replace of my grandma because my grandma is away for holiday.

I guess it just comes down to cultural norms wherever you live. In the US we can say either "going to school" or "going to A school".

A similar thing that used to bug me is when some Europeans (or non-Americans) say they did something "on" a certain program (like Photoshop for instance) rather than "in" it. Example: "I did this drawing on MS Paint". Sounded very odd to me until I got used to it.

Sounds sort of like "I did this drawing on LSD."...

      B-b-baby it's COLD out there!!!
I went across the yard and filled a bucket and a 2 liter bottle with water. Then I walked down to the road to get our 2 trashcans and nearly the entire driveway is an enormous slab of ice. I walked on thin patches of snow to keep from falling. The trashcans were in the neighbors yard- blown there by a steady and impressive wind. My face and exposed hand are bright red and I was out there for no more than 10 minutes total.

I plugged the heated cord in at the porch- as per hubby's suggestion- and it seems to be working perfectly. I have no more electric tape though. I really should've sucked it up and dealt with the Walmart crowd yesterday. Now we have no food. The animals (except the bunny) have no food. I'll cook the dogs some old rice and pour some broth over it. They love that. The cats can get off their lazy rumps and go hunt. My boy and I have a jar of peanut butter each- so we wont starve. But what about the birds? If only they weren't such seed snobs.
If the ice thaws I'll put $2. in gas and spend the other $12 on the pets. My son and I can hibernate. But I can't go anywhere in current conditions!

This speech thing is going to drive me bonkers lol. WHY does it sound so strange to say "I'm going to University" when it's correct to say "I'm going to Church... I'm going to school."? If I was to say "I'm going to A school," it would only be because I was going to follow up with "... in [insert random location]."

Maybe all this time you thought people were referring to those programs they were really just talking about some crazy blotters with the MS Paint and Photoshop logos on them.

I talk that way all the time.

Well... I guess if I had to come up with something, and I'm not saying this is right necessarily, it'd be that I normally think about 'college' as just a description of what it is along the lines of 'high school' or 'middle school', but I think of 'University' as more of a title. I would call a University a college, but I wouldn't call a college a University if it didn't go by one, e.g. Random Place Community College. In this sense, it would seem kind of awkward to say "I'm going to University", but not to say "I'm going to college".

I think of a college as a specific area of study, and University as a group of colleges. I do tend to say college more than University because of how in High School and even in Middle School, they blast politically correct ideals of how it's necessary to do well in college (but really here in Texas, it's Universities, but there are other branches like in Medical fields that are just a college of that University).

Then I realize, meh, whatever, I'll just say college or University, since people are already accustomed to correlating both, which is a bad thing if you over-analyze things, but other than that, it's still going to be used as if they both mean the same thing (except when when someone says University, they would probably add something else to it (Like Sam Houston State University or, University of A&M)....and that's too long to say for some people (since we like short-hand language).

I even went on a random Skype with a friend I knew, and his friend who was a girl said after I said that I go to college, she said "I don't go to college, but I do go to a University."

I wondered what the difference was, then I realize University is really a collection or group of colleges, it's just that college sounds easier over here, it's just a social meme in my opinion. (If you were to call your friend to ask where you're going, you can say "I'm going back to college after the break" or "I'm going back to University", and they'll still signal that as whatever they want it to be). Damn it we're still going to live people

It's amazing the lengths we go to explain little components for vocabulary in different areas There's probably a comet coming after us in 50 years, and here we are sitting down on our electronics ranting about why people say this and why they say that....WAH

      Spoiler for WAHHH!:

      Relevant thought -

"I'm going to school" is something you'd say only if you actually attend that school. It refers to attending classes. 'Going to' in this case does not refer to the physical act of transporting yourself there, but means you're taking classes there.

"Going down to the school" refers to visiting the building or location itself. A parent can say this if they're going to talk to the principle or to pick up their kid or something.

A little overlap exists where a person can say "I'm getting ready to go to school" which does refer to the physical act of transportation, but only when they're going there to attend classes. If that same student were going there to see a play in the evening or something they wouldn't say "I'm going to school now", they'd say "I have to go to the school".

I think it's just that most Americans don't say "I'm going to university" and the only time we HEAR that word used is: "Cornell University" or "The University of Pennsylvania..." or as a title, like Alyzarin said. Our term is "I'm going to college."

Technically I'm only going to college, until my college can complete the transfer in status to "university." But it makes no difference, the professors are great, the classes are small, and I enjoy almost every class!

That quote is the greatest Dianeva!! And grats on getting a violin

The vocabulary thing, for me, isn't so much a rant as trying to understand the difference. "Maths" rubs me the wrong way lol, but it's still not a serious rant. I like trying to find out why the differences exist. Which reminds me... I now need to google "...peeing like a Russian race horse." how did that saying come about

My minor rant is still the weather. It's 19 degrees outside but Intellicast.com says it feels like it's 6. We're having wind gusts of 23 mph. I let the big dogs inside, called my hubby for soda and batteries and the dogs ran outside They'll be back in a couple of hours (probably) so long as they don't cause a car accident first. I've never seen them in the road, but there's a first time for everything. They tend to stay in the field chasing deer and having fun. Hopefully, they'll find it's too cold to stay out for too long.

Lol after the recent discussion here "starting school" makes me picture you pulling a rope on a school building the way you would to start a lawnmower..

"Peeing like a Russian Racehorse" - yeah, never did understand that one!! The images it conjures up for me - maybe Russian racehorses drink a lot of Vodka?

I've actually heard people misquote that one as "rushing" racehorse, which conjures a really funny image!

DOn't know if it's true, but it makes sense. And the "Russian" part could have been added/altered from "rushin'"

I don't know what is it with these grocery baggers. Whenever they see me, they finish whatever they're doing and leave me, and I end up bagging the stuff myself. And I know if it gets busy that they have to rotate and shit, but if you're going to leave me every fucking time, it makes me think like they don't want social contact with me.

Like I just went to groceries to get some stuff before I leave to go back to college. This cute girl is bagging this smelly old guy's stuff, and I'm behind him. When she's done, she leaves, and the place isn't even BUSY...like what the hell, you can't be that afraid of a guy if you bag an older person's stuff?

I'm not paranoid, I know there's something up with these people. And I know their managers are watching them too, because they wouldn't want a customer to be the one bagging everything, it'll look bad on them for being lazy asses.

Fucking hell, can't even come in contact with GROCERY BAGGERS..fucking BAGGERS LOL

And I still don't know what to do with this $100 I got as a gift. I know that if I spend it on games, my father will start complaining why I'm doing that when I should be focusing on college (and you want me to fucking socialize with people as if that doesn't constitute as my free time; and having friends = the temptation to put things off; and I didn't even play video games during college, it was just too fucking stressful to even set up my Nintendo Wii o.o). It just motivates me even more to become overqualified in everything again and just make everyone look like shit, but if I do that, I'll probably won't have any friends because I'll end up being condescending again looool.

(I still can't get out of the habit of being condescending because separate thoughts make themselves apparent whenever I talk to a person who just looks weird and makes me want to say things to humiliate them) =/

Fml, I would like to be normal around people, but this degree I'm going for requires you to think you know everything (of course I'll be retaining an inferiority complex to dilute that a little bit) to get any success. Now I have to find someway to get back to that behavior again, and it's going to succccck because I've been acting like an idiot on purpose to forget the stress from college.

      sigh...

I feel you Zhaylin, I hate cleaning up stuff, I still have to get everything else set up for the trip back to college. =(

      Edit:

And damn it, I probably have to do a stealth mission just to buy a Used PS2 and MGS3 (which should just take like half of the 100$) away, and hope that someone won't ask me how much money I have left >.> Because if I do that on the banking account, it's going to pop up, and he's going to question me on what I bought. Man, fathers these days.

And fuck, it's better for me to not get it anyway, since he'll wonder what a PS2 is doing there (then again, he doesn't really pay attention to what consoles I have anyway) It's only when his friend's children comes in that he's concerned since he wants them to have something to do while I deal with their whining. You see how bullshit this is? I should give the games to the children so I don't have to deal with his contradicting intentions.

Why do you need to think that you know everything for biochem?
I think you can be humble and still do well. In fact that would probably be a better option because then you know you can always improve.

Dude Biochemistry is all about mind games, you force colleagues to think that you're competent, they will start to degrade their potential because they hate the fact that someone is going to do better, and it shows. And you have to be like that if you want any attraction when signing up for research (which will add on to experience as I'm sucking up to companies' asses in hopes of a little push into a decent career).

Being humble in college? l00o0l0ol0l Not when you're going for undergraduate studying. It's when you go to graduate school here that you start that fake facade of being humble because everyone is on the same level as you basically, and THAT'S when you start using teamwork and social skills.

For undergraduate studies? Rofl fuck no, fuck humbleness, that's the same bullshit that will get you no where when applying for graduate school, nuh-uh bro, I'm not fucking up my future just to be "humble." And I don't mean I'm trying to become overconfident, but I'll have to show some guts to pull out a win with this degree. I can do so well in life here if I can land a corporate job related to the oil industry here, that means humbleness is just a bullshit mindset.

There's always room for improvement yes, but sometimes humbleness does not give you the strength of mind to do keep getting better. It's all about being confident yet somewhat humble, it's about hanging between those two realms to really push out what I'm really capable of.

I can understand why you would question why I would need to know everything, but it's the ACT of thinking I know everything. When I build up on that facade, I'll actually become more capable because I'll be used to that mindset, and I wouldn't have to rely on the prior attitude. (Fake confidence eventually turning into actual confidence)

It's hard getting a decent job, everyone rapes for the simple jobs, and you think that being humble is going to get shit done? Maybe when I got to an interview for a job, but before that? Fuck no. I'm not going to live like a piece of shit. Too much luck has been given to me for it to go in vain, and that feeling is something I will not happen. Anyone can pass college now if they work hard enough, which means other traits have to become dominant to show why I should be qualified like the other 40k+ students here, I don't have time for that humble shit.

I'm sorry tommo, if I didn't have a weird lifestyle, your words might've actually worked on me. Being humble and still doing well isn't enough, everyone is trying to do that here, I need to step out of that box and do something extraordinary.

Sorry if it seemed like I attacked you there, I just wanted to dish out a piece of my ego there.

Wow Link, you just blatantly laid out things that were obscurely lurking in the back of my mind, no wonder why I'm not making friends either

We all have to make sacrifices, friends can come later. It's good to have a few friends, but not too many to forget the objective.

There must be better objectives than this among the wonders of biochemistry though

I have to be realistic, then I can start going crazy on megalomaniac shit. We can talk about this in the Chill Conversation and Rambling Zone if you want

Facebook. That was a joke by the way.

Nanotechnology? Controlling how humans think and regulating them to where they can't do anything drastic?

but seriously let's talk about it there.

Well ok, but at least facebook doesn't force you to use it when less harmful uses of time exist lol.
