My ramen is better than your ramen

If it's not, then prove it. Here we share and cook each others favorite recipes, and post pictures (optional) of final products.

      Rules:
Use ramen, or cup of noodles but the flavor in the cup of noodles needs to be rinsed out, and the ramen flavor packet must be thrown away. All I want going on in this thread is recipe discussion, and recipe reviews. And with that, here's my recipe.

      Ingredients:
2 cup of noodles rinsed out
      2 Jalapenos chopped
      1 Yellow Pepper chopped
1 Pack of Chicken breast cut into strips
14 ounces of crushed tomatoes (the kind where it's almost like thick tomato juice)
      4 table spoons of sugar
      salt
      pepper
      Worcestershire sauce
      apple cider vinegar
      Extra virgin olive oil
baked potato chopped in chunks (optional)
      tortilla chips (optional)

      Instructions:
Take your tomato sauce, and trow in a few table spoons of sugar (just to get rid of the acidity)

Cover the chicken in olive oil, salt and pepper, and splash on some worcestershire sauce (if you really want to go all out, soak the chicken in a combo of that over night)

Take your jalapenos and boil them in the vinegar....should only take a minute or two. Stab em with a fork to see if they feel soft.

Take the onions and pepper and boil them in water...same thing...just a minute to get the raw taste out.

Take all that stuff and strain....keep that apple cider though....you're going to get your recycle on.

Throw your chicken strips (bout the length of two mcnuggets) on a large skillet on medium. The first side should get rolling quickly. Flip then add another few splashes of Worcestershire sauce. Turn it down just a bit and throw in some of that pickled jalapeno juice in there. Just enough to cover the bottom of the pan.

Drop all those vegetables in with the chicken and stir it around.
      Stir it some more
      (a minute should elapse)
      Add more pepper.
      Throw in a little salt.
      Turn it down to simmer
      Add your tomato sauce
Throw your noddles in a microwave safe bowl of water and nuke them for about 4 minutes.
Drop the noodles in your creation (or strain and keep it separated, depending on how you roll)

and turn it back up to medium.
Throw in your optional potato chunks
      Turn it down to simmer.
      Stir a bit
      Serve and enjoy.

      (Optional professional crap)
If you kept the noodles separated from the sauce mixture, it'll plate a helluva lot better. Just lay down some noodles cover it with the mixture, sprinkle a little shredded cheese, and garnish with tortillas.

Sounds like a lot of sugar. Any good vegetarian substitutes for chicken?

this is so weird because a couple days ago I made ramen with vegetable stir fry with onions celery spinach and bell pepper. I added seasoning salt, and tumeric I think, chili powder, a little curry. It was freakin good. I was planning on making something like that today.

Use just enough to get rid of that bite from the tomatoes. Not necessarily 4 table spoons, but you'll have to play around with it for yourself. Alternatively you can sub out the sugar for organic agave nectar. As for the chicken...you can sub that out for potatoes and carrots.

So I'm confused...what exactly IS ramen? Is it the type of noodles? Or the combination of noodles with seasoning packet? What's the difference in starting with ramen and not just a pack of noodles?

I get the fancy ramens from the asian store, with like four packets of goodies to dump on your noodles. Mmm...I think I need to make some now. Sorry for not really contributing anything useful to your thread.

To make the dish more visibly appealing. The sauce is already red, and the jalapenos are green. Might as well use a colour that isn't already in use.

The Ramen I'm referring to are the el cheapo noodles that normally come with a flavor packet. The staple food that is enjoyed by college students, soldiers, and bachelors.

You know, I do have a bunch of Maruchan (makers of fine Ramen products) Instant Lunch n my cabinet that I keep on hand for those days when I have nothing else to eat, and one of them is Shrimp. I HATE the shrimp ones!!!

Instant Lunch is just ramen noodles with dehydrated veggies and meat in a styrofoam cup, just add boiling water and eat. inspired by this thred, I might rinse out the stuff and try to make something good of it.

Just a quick note about the Instant Lunches... the directions say to pour in the boiling water and wait 3 minutes to eat. It ends up basically a thin broth with thin noodles and dried chunks of (tiny) veggies and meat floating in it. But if you let it sit for more like 10 to 15 minutes, the noodles swell up magnificently, and so does everything else. And all the liquid becomes absorbed, so it's actually noodles rather than a thin soup. This way it's actually damn fine eatin'!

      Sorry, now back on topic...

The best thing I've ever made with Ramen is:

Break the noodles 2-4 times in the package x's 3 packages. Dump into a pot on the stove, stir. Add about 3 eggs. Constantly stir as the water comes to a violent boil. Turn down the heat, still stirring until noodles are cooked.
Drain almost all of the water, add season packet, add can of corn (drained).
      Enjoy

I'm backwards when it comes to all things cooking. I never wait for the water to come to a boil before cooking noodles. I should beat the eggs in a separate bowl THEN add them to the pot. But my way just seems to much easier lol

Now I just eat Cup 'O Ramen. I add water THEN stick it in the microwave for 3 minutes I always drain the broth.

      **EDIT**
I used to eat Cup o' Ramen ALL the time- especially when traveling with hubby in the RV. Hubby HATES the smell of Ramen, so he started calling them "Stinky Noodles".
It stuck. All of us have called Ramen that for several years now lol.

My step dad calls them chips. But I call them delicious.
I recommend to do this with the oriental flavor ramen noodles.

Take the noodles and rinse them off. Just make them a little damp.
split them in half. (They come apart pretty easy.)

Put them on a saucer and put the seasoning packet on all four sides. (The seasoning should stick because the noodles are damp)

Put them in a microwave and turn them every 30-60time seconds.

The noodles will cook but they are very crispy. Like chips! Eat them.

(Be careful! Its easy to burn)

OP, I would definately try that if i had all the ingredients ..it sounds good

I also like to make ramen noodles with Doritos..the Doritos swell up in the noodles and act as a cheesy sauce..very good, another way i used to make it is with pickles, chips, tuna/or some other meat..pickle juice, and peperoni sausage

I'll post pics soon. And no. It's crunchy. But not hard. It gets cooked because it's damp. Try it!
