Yep, although it's far more likely the satellite/s would just be junk, not a working gps satellite or something.
Even then the chances are tiny though.

I found these two articles to be rather interesting:

NASA's Curiosity Rover Poised to Drill Into Mars | Space.com

Comet ISON: NASA Spacecraft Photographs Potential 'Comet of the Century' | Space.com

Also, though they are not exactly space events, I thought others here might find these interesting:

4.5 Billion 'Alien Earths' May Populate Milky Way | Space.com

Closest 'Alien Earth' May Be 13 Light-Years Away | Space.com

...Hmm, to think, one day we may very well possess the technology to travel to different worlds, and maybe even find new life. It is truly a shame I will not live to see that day. (Sigh) Would I would not give for another three or four hundred years or so of life...

Watch February 15 asteroid flyby online, in real-time | Human World | EarthSky

When small asteroid 2012 DA14 passes within 17,200 miles (within 28,000 kilometers) of Earth on February 15, you won’t be able to see the asteroid with the eye alone. But astronomical observatories with large telescopes will be sure to capture it in photos and on video, and some will be broadcasting online. We’ll be posting links to public viewings of the event here. We’ll add more as we receive them. Remember, the asteroid flyby is Friday, February 15, 2013.

Bareket Observatory in Israel is offering a free live webcast of the close approach, using a remote telescope coupled with a cooled CCD camera. This special webcast will take place on February 15 from 19:00 – 20:30 UTC (21:00 – 22:30 Israel local time, or 2p.m. – 3:30 p.m. CST in the United States). For more information, visit Baraket Observatory’s website. You’ll be automatically transfered to the live images, during the event.

Clay Center Observatory will offer real-time high-definition video, weather permitting, from 22:00 UTC February 15 until 8:00 UTC on February 16 (6 p.m. EST to 4 a.m. the next morning). The video feed can be freely accessed worldwide via Clay Center Observatory’s Ustream channel. The observatory has also set up a countdown clock to show how much time remains until the tracking begins.

Slooh Space Camera will cover the asteroid’s near-approach on Friday, February 15, with several live shows, free to the public, starting at 6 p.m. PST / 9 p.m. EST / 02:00 UTC (2/16) — international times at Event Time Announcer - Slooh - Asteroid 2012 DA14 — accompanied by real-time discussions with Slooh Space Camera’s Paul Cox, astronomer and author Bob Berman, and Prescott Observatory manager Matt Francis. Viewers can watch live on their PC or iOS/Android mobile device. Visit Slooh’s event page for a possible asteroid 2012 DA14 online event, for more.

Virtual Telescope Project, which calls itself “the most active facility in the world in astronomical science and education,” will also be following 2012 DA14 on February 15. Check out Virtual Telescope’s event page here.

Bottom line: Check back here occasionally for links to online viewing of the near-Earth asteroid, close-passing 2012 DA14. The events will occur on February 15, 2013.

Forgot to post that here. How crazy is that!?

Kinda sucks that you can't hear the boom before it hits the ground. Would be a nice warning to have lol

So glad Russia has so many dashcams, there's 100's of vids.

I was saddened by the injuries caused by the asteroid.

But it was just one of the most fascinating things I had ever seen. From a viewers standpoint we were lucky that this happened over Russia due dash cams being a regular thing there.

Wasn't there another asteroid that same day or the next day in Cuba?

Promising Comet ISON Gives Perplexing Performance En Route to Sun | Space.com

Anyone else excited about Comet ISON (assuming it survives its brush with the Sun)? I certainly am. Hopefully overcast will not get in the way when the time comes.

Oh, thankyou! I'd almost forgotten, that's lucky.

      Definitely excited for it.

      Edit: Dammit.... http://www.abc.net.au/science/articl...01/3880970.htm

If it makes it's trip around the Sun, I won't even be able to see it here.
      Well that sucks....

Been waiting since Hale-Bopp in '97. Hopefully this one will not disappoint like the last PanSTARRS did. I have made sure that I have zero plans for all of December and plenty of winter gear. I will probably just lay out there in my sleeping bag until dawn next to the fire all month.

For those who do not know, you can track ISON, as well as other comets like C/2013 R1 Lovejoy with Stellarium. It makes it very easy to get the right coordinates at any given time, as well as to plan your observations well ahead. All it requires is that you add any comets that you wish to track into the solar system editor.

Comet Lovejoy is just to the left of Leo and cannot be missed with binoculars. It is right on the verge of being a naked eye comet. I took a look last night and was surprised at how big it is. If you have binoculars, I highly recommend checking it out before the full moon makes it more difficult to see; though I don't see how that is possible considering that I found this one with only a foggy idea of where it was supposed to be.

      comet-ISON-Michael-Jager-Austria-11-10-2013.jpg

Comet ISON has just had an outburst yesterday and it is now 6 times as bright as it was previously. It is about equal now to Lovejoy in brightness. I hope to get a good view of it in a few hours. I get the feeling that this is going to be a rare few months. Four comets are now at relatively high magnitudes. Let's hope that ISON does not disintegrate in the next few days and continues to brighten.

Tried to get a view of ISON this morning, couldn't see crap. Disappointing. Pretty much no chance now, but i'll hopefully try again this morning if I wake up on time.

Looked up all 4 comets, I may be able to see Encke in late November http://www.universetoday.com/105582/...comet-2pencke/
Damn you America, you've gotten all the awesome sights this year!

Looked up tonight to find what I am pretty sure is venus a few degrees from the waxing crescent moon.
I am told you may be able to see it tomorrow night also around 30 mins after sunset.

Comet ISON confirmed dead.... Didn't even get a chance to see it.

Great video on this article, can also see Venus! hehe

Comet ISON confirmed gone after brush with Sun › News in Science (ABC Science)

Yes that will be Venus you saw Araishu. Looks SO beautiful next to the Moon. It's been there quite a bit the last few months here.
Can even sometimes see it just before sunset. One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen was on the way home from work, the sky was that really deep blue you get sometimes
and black, with Venus, the Moon and Mars all close together. Absolutely amazing.

[Sigh] Well, looks like there will be no comet ISON in the sky. [Shrugs] To be honest, I did not have high hopes. Disappointing, nevertheless.

WATCH LIVE TODAY: Slooh Remembers Comet ISON in 1 pm ET Webcast | Space.com

"After a full year of headlines and hype, Comet ISON seems to have been essentially destroyed by its close encounter with the sun," Slooh officials said in a statement. "Everyone knew that ISON might not survive such a close perihelion with the sun, yet a majority of astronomers guessed that it would. It's really no great surprise. Just a disappointment for us Earthly observers hoping for a great show. Visually, there seems to be nothing to see any more, whatsoever. Hopefully, ISON's death can bequeath us a lesson about astronomical hype."

ISON may be dead, but Lovejoy has just increased to 4th magnitude for northern hemisphere observers; a decent naked eye object, and an excellent binocular target. It looked great at 6th magnitude, and hopefully I will get another shot at it in a few hours.

Sorry - not an event - or maybe it is:

Photographed in November of 2012 by the Cassini spacecraft narrow-angle camera, this is a photograph of a hurricane nearly 1,250 miles wide on the surface of Saturn. Via NASA:

The spinning vortex of Saturn’s north polar storm resembles a deep red rose of giant proportions surrounded by green foliage in this false-color image from NASA’s Cassini spacecraft. Measurements have sized the eye at a staggering 1,250 miles (2,000 kilometers) across with cloud speeds as fast as 330 miles per hour (150 meters per second).

This image is among the first sunlit views of Saturn’s north pole captured by Cassini’s imaging cameras. When the spacecraft arrived in the Saturnian system in 2004, it was northern winter and the north pole was in darkness. Saturn’s north pole was last imaged under sunlight by NASA’s Voyager 2 in 1981; however, the observation geometry did not allow for detailed views of the poles. Consequently, it is not known how long this newly discovered north-polar hurricane has been active.
