Unhappy How long after your 1st lucid dream did you have your 2nd one?

I happened to have my first lucid dream about a month ago after trying intensely for about 2 months. I managed to do it basically by an iPhone app that reminds you to do reality checks and by keeping a dream journal. I did the hand reality check and it worked.
However I don't seem to be able to have a second one... The truth is that the quality of the dreams I see are not like the ones in the first stage. I am also a bit more busy and spent less time thinking about lucid dreaming. I am doing the checks without the app now but whenever I remember.
I had a few (5-10) long dreams that I could remember almost fully, but most of them are vague and short. I had a couple of strange experiences as well: In one of them I saw that I looked at my palm and then levitated as of magic (which was the first thing I did in my lucid dream) but I wasn't lucid. In another case I managed to go back to a dream I was seeing when waking up during the night, but I didn't have much control of it (I was more like a viewer watching a movie).
Anyone knows what I should do? Is it possible to lucid dream again without spending the whole day thinking about dreaming??
      Appreciate any kind of answer!

It was like 2 or 3 months for me, and then it started to get more frequent. But there was one vital point to that. I started to do visualization and RC visualization, to make them more frequent. So it really matters if you're doing everything properly and your subconscious is picking everything up.
Don't worry if you haven't got your LD after 2 weeks, not even a month or two... It may even take a year, but remember - never give up.

Different for everyone. The second lucid was the hardest for me as well. When you get your first lucid, you have your "newbie motivation", it's basically like beginners luck. Your second lucid, that newbie motivation fades and you have to be motivated by other things. (Past lucids, dream goals, etc). Once you get to your third lucid and beyond, you start to gain more experience and grasp the feel of dreaming, and from there it will keep getting easier. Just stay diligent, and you will probably have your next lucid soon.

Yes #2 is really the test. For me I was fortunate that #2 came 1 week after #1. #1 took a full month of total dedication, I was constantly reading and learning and doing daytime practice and working on dream recall. My frequency is up and down, with motivation like the last DV competition I had 7 LDs in about 2 weeks. I also had two LD/recall multiple-week dry spells in the last 6 months.

They key is keeping the motivation, expectation, and positive attitude. Love your dreams, thank your SC for your dreaming experiences.

You don't have to spend the whole day with your *full attention* thinking about dreaming, but I think the successful LDers keep at least a pearl of awareness on dreaming and cultivate a continuous mental attitude of evaluating their reality/state. Over time it should take less and less of your conscious attention.

My absolute first lucid dream was unintentional and I didn't even know this sort of thing had a name. I had that dream in 2002.
First intentional dream was in September of 2007. Probably shortly after I really learned to know about LDs.
6 Months later I had another dream I'm not sure if it was actually an LD or if I just dreamed of having an LD...
15 days later another one like the one before.
2 days later a legit LD. I actually had 3 LDs in that month.

I probably would be a regular lucid dreamer by now if I hadn't stopped practicing it since then.

I had my first lucid ages ago! (haven't had many since) Like you I didn't have a lucid for a while, I had some kind of mental block and I started to fall out of the reality check/dream journal regime.. Worst thing I could have done ! So my advise would be to just keep doing what you're doing! Eventually it will happen.

I started getting into lucid dreaming again about a month ago, (maybe more) and had my first lucid since then this morning! Going to keep at it this time

I had my second one only a couple of days after the first. But I stopped practicing after that, and spent the next five years lucid-dream free.

Thank you all guys. All your replies are very helpful. Seems there is no specific pattern but it may very well take some time...

@coheed: now that you mention it i actually had something like a fake lucid a week or so ago. I was aware that i was dreaming for a few seconds but the i had a FA and continued in a regular dream. I had a small amount of control as well but was really short. Can you call this a Ld!?

A "fake lucid" is generally a dream where lucid-dream-like things happen (dream control, etc.) but you're not aware that you're dreaming. If you're aware that you're dreaming but then lose the lucidity it's still considered a lucid dream.

      Yes, what FryingMan said.
It was one of the most confusing things when I woke up from these dreams in which my dreamself changed things around like I was lucid, but I don't think I really knew I was dreaming. I guess it's just a typical beginners thing.
Still better then having an annoying false awakening whenever you start to notice something's up...

Ooooo, I would *love * to get frequent false awakenings (and of course recognize them and turn them into LDs!).

I had a near-lucid with lucid-level awareness a few nights ago following an earlier lucid. I went back and forth on this question (lucid or not?) for a while since right at the end I exercised LD-level DC "mind control", and woke from the dream like waking from a lucid, right into awareness. But I never told myself "I'm dreaming" and I while the idea may have been in my mind somewhere it never made it to the front, so to speak, so I didn't count it. I also was sneaking around trying not to get caught by the owners of the house whose party I was crashing, and in all my real lucids I never exhibit that sort of "getting caught by a DC" concern (since I'm "in command"), so I decided I was not lucid.

Maybe then, that's what happened to me..: i recognized i was lucid and as a response i had a FA instead of a real one... Is this something that happens often?

Years, but without trying. After my most recent 'first LD' I got interested in LDing and started using RCs and such and it only took one week.

I had had 2-3 lucid dreams before starting to get them by purpose. Only when I found out it was possible I began my journey.
I had my first intentional lucid dream after 13 days when I began to write my DJ and had my second one right away next day, because I was so excited about the first one (which lasted roughly 10 seconds, second one lasted 5mins). After 486 days I'v had 227 LDs, could have had more but there's been down-and up hills along the way you know, motivation is not always that high.
