      Using water to stabilise

Hey guys, I was wondering if its possible to stabilize using a bottle of water. In my last lucid dream I stabilized by reaching to my right for a water bottle on the floor and took a few sips from it (it was surprisingly warm!), but I was thinking, maybe drinking the water and then pouring it over your head would help to stabilize the dream.

let me know if you guys have any ideas.

it all has to do with your expectations, so if you believe it will work then it will work.

i know it sounds like some new age bullshit, but it actually is true. http://www.dreamviews.com/dream-cont...-dreaming.html

Hmmm... water doesn't exist in a lucid dream. neither do your hands or mouth or clothes. So what is the difference between rubbing imaginary hands together or tossing water on your face? This is all what you can make of it. I use a watch with a button to stabilize me, because it doesn't matter what is really happening, but it matters what it means to you. What makes sense to you within your own experiences.

Very interesting sensei, well said. Stabilization to me has always seemed something of a grey area, the urgent "rush" to stabilize the dream often in a beginners case leads to dream to collapse.
I'll try this water thing out because to me it makes sense, but it also makes equal sense to do nothing and just assume the dream won't break, because in NLDs dreams dont just randomly collapse, right?

In my experience, it is best to do what makes sense by doing something until it becomes natural, and then do what makes sense by not doing anything. I personally just use whatever I have around me to stabilize if I forget something creativity is the best form of dream control, and stabilization is really just dream control. If my watch isn't there, drinks, food, air, sound, walls, humans, clothes, or whatever I feel. This is only if the dream seems unstable. If I try and stabilize an already stable dream, then I can destroy it.

This has happened to me a bunch of times. I think this has to do with going against the dream narrative. It's important to use that creativity you mentioned to make your goals meld gently into the dream flow ("reframing the narrative."). Pretend memories are a great way to do this.

I lost a LD a week or so ago when I decided I really had to "engage my environment" by fondling and staring closely at the stair railing of the stairway I was descending. The dream wasn't particularly unstable. If I had just kept going and focused on enjoying the dream I bet it could have gone on quite a bit longer.

edit: by the way, I've tried the "bottle of water" approach, I successfully remembered once to summon a bottle of water and take a drink, the process was awesome (I saw my unrendered wireframe arms/hands initially then watched while my brain filled in the "paint" of my skin color, what a trip) but after doing so I promptly forgot all about it
