Will this reality check be effective?

Usually I just use the nose plug reality check and I have achieved about 8 Lucids by using it. However I'm tired of having to hide my self from looking like an idiot every time I do a reality check. What if I were to get a wristband that said something on it and just used a reading reality check? I would get a watch but I'm not really a watch guy

Try pushing your finger though your palm. It's close to the reliability of the nose plug technique, but far less embarrassing. I haven't tried it, but you can also look at your hand and count your fingers. More or less fingers means it's a dream. But I can imagine it'd be a bit less reliable, however.

I also loved that reality check. A good way to hide it is act as if you are yawning. Put your hand before your mouth. Use your thumb en index finger to discretely close up your nose and perform the RC. And yeah, the wristband could work I guess. I prefer All Day Awareness over RCing nowadays. Works better and nobody can see you are doing it.

You can re-read text in a dream and it changes. So you can discretely look at any text that you see, re-read it and it will change. This reality check is more effective than either the finger through palm or nose breathing.

When I started I was worried about being embarrassed if someone caught me doing a reality check like the nose plug or counting my fingers, but I don't think I've ever had anyone apart from a lucid dreamer comment on it or ask what I was doing. You really don't need to be worried about people seeing you block your nose, counting your fingers, etc. If for some strange reason they do ask you - you can just say your ears or fingers were feeling funny, or you could even tell them about lucid dreaming!

EDIT: And personally I think the nose breathing is the most reliable RC I've used. Many times I've done the read/reread RC and the text hasn't changed. While I have had really good results with the text RC getting me lucid I don't find it reliable enough for me compared to the nose-plug

With all the reality checks out there, you should have no problem finding one that's discreet enough. Personally, I just use different reality checks based on the situation and my surroundings, but I always make sure to use more than one. So let's say you're in a classroom, sitting at an empty desk. There's probably not a digital clock in the room, and you have nothing on your desk, so that rules out reading and rereading. Instead, count your fingers (interpreted by most as boredom), and then try to push your finger through your palm (interpreted by most as being fidgety). The wristband is also a great idea.
Although that was probably more than you asked for, does that help?

Well, whatever works for you. That could work for sure, just make sure you actually question reality when you read it, don't just lackadaisically glance at it and be like "lol reality check k"
or something, ya know? and i do the nose plug reality check in front of people, you just have to act like you're itching your nose hahaha

The strangest thing happened when I did my usual nose plug reality check in my 5th lucid. I could still breath, but it was as if I had a stuff nose when you have a cold. Or in my case, smoke and ash. If you read my "Fire and Failed Resurrection" entry in my dream journal you'll know what I'm talkin' about.

I was told about a RC I hadn't heard of, you pull your thumb, basically in the dreamworld it will stretch
Out really long. I tried it last night and it worked, it was funny but the thing is, it didn't go back to normal,
I had to roll it up and hold it in my palm.

If that ever happens again you should try sticking your elongated thumb through your palm. Reality Check Combo!

I found this article about flashbulb memories. I think this may explain why the digital clock reality checks (and reality checks in general) are so effective at creating awareness: Flashbulb memory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Why hide? Just try to breath through your closed mouth, same concept for nose-pinch but doesn't requires moving a lot.

If you do that, the air will come through your nose, so you will still have to pinch it. At least, that's what happens when I do it
