Asking a dream character to remind you that you're lucid

DISCLAIMER: This is not my original idea. Another person posted this question in another forum.

Would asking a dream character in a lucid dream to remind you that you are dreaming next time work? Would they pop up in your non-lucid and grant you lucidity?

Try it out and record the results

Anything is worth a try but I'm leaning toward 'no'.

This idea comes up frequently and I have never heard of a person that has had consistent success with it.

I have tried this on many occasions telling the dcs that next time I dream
to tell me that I am dreaming, it has only worked once for me after a lucid
dream when i asked for this I had a normal dream and was told by a dc that
i was dreaming then became lucid.

Once i asked dream character: Am I dreaming? He answered no and my lucidity gone away. That was a stupid idea to ask dream character if i was dreaming in LD.

I have read somewhere, I think in DV forums that you shouldn't ask dream character if you are dreaming because they will simply answer: No, you aren't dreaming.

If you expect them to say you aren't dreaming, that's what they'll say. If you expect them to tell you that you are dreaming then they will.

That's not always true I have asked expected my DC's to know that it is a dream and they have said it is not. Also I have expected them to be ignorant of them knowing that it is a dream and then had them say it is.

It wouldn't hurt to try. Most people who have tried this have never had it work or have had it work only once or twice. For some reason dream characters just seem to be again lucid dreaming good luck with it!

I don't think it would work very well. I know it's been around a few years this idea so I think we'd know by now if there was a way to make it work.

Instead of a character showing you you're dreaming, would it not be better to use some action - like flying - as a reminder that you're dreaming? Maybe a goal could be built into it? Perhaps whenever you're lucid you try to fly to the moon and you want to use that as a future reminder that you're dreaming. A kind of "artifical dreamsign action", I guess.
My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

This has happened a few times to me, but I've never actually made a conscious effort to make it happen, just spontaneous... I'll try it tonight and give you the results, mate

It's going to be completely hit and miss. I've personally never done it.

I was asking a dream character last night how I could make the dream completely real (it wasn't vivid) and she was having none of it.

I've had dc's talk to me about lucid dreaming. I even had a friend in a dream give me pills that he said would make me ld more often, but even when dc's mention lucid dreaming, it usually reinforces the idea that I'm not dreaming.

If it worked, it would be brilliant. All you would have to do is to ask them in your first lucid and they would get you lucid in rest of your dreams.

But perhaps just because you thinking of asking, or the fact that you have asked may get you lucid, just as any other occasion when you thinking about lucids. That said, its on my to do list for a long time. Good luck.

First up im from Melbourne ,Australia myself so hey there

i think within your dream a DC wouldn't be a good way to become lucid as they deny being a fragment of a dream at least from what I've read around the forums i wouldn't be much help as I've only ever had one lucid

Anyway, Good luck with your lucid goals
      my lucid dreaming goals
{} Have another lucid {} Sustain lucidity {X} Improve my dream recall {} Make my own private mountain sanctuary {} Walk around my school doing whatever i please {} Create a peaceful garden to relax in {} Have a dinner party with significant people throughout history {} Become a helpful user on Dream Views

My dream characters always tell me that I'm not dreaming. Those bastards. It's like they don't WANT me to know the truth. I'll have to try some other tactics for lucid activation.
