DILD, problems with the moment of realization

      Hi Guys.

So I usually only attation any sort of lucidity when having DILDs. Sometimes this happens without any problems but usually when i am with DCs(people) problems can occur, im wondering if this is common. Let me explain with my dream last night.

The first thing i remember is just being in a building with lots of people, somehow i realise i am dreaming and think 'oohh what shall i do?' i try and make everyone disappear and make a forest/wood/lake sorta enviroment. But suddenly my focus is caught by a DC, looking straight into my eyes, angrily, almost as if its my mind saying 'you shouldnt know' or 'you shouldnt be doing this'. It seems to happen fairly often, kinda like in the film Inception when the DCs turn hostile to someone that shoudnt be in the dream, if you've seen it. So when this happens i either wake up or start getting attacked. Anyone got any bright ideas how to avoid this? Maybe last night i was trying a bit too hard with my changes but sometimes the DCs can turn hostile as soon as i realise. the stare the DCs give me, its scary.

for anyone thats interested what happened in the rest of that dream, once the DC stared at me i immediately thought 'shit im gonna wake up now' but i didnt, instead i fet my body jolt(maybe it did in real life aswell) and my body had turned big and muscular AND GREEN, like i was the hulk! then some DCs also turned to hulk-like characters and we fought. I think by this point i had lost any awareness i was still dreaming and just went along with it.

      Thanks!

      Hi sdjohnson!

Your situation is not as unusual as you think. There are lots of people that have experienced this at one time or another. For one thing, some of us have noticed that some chemicals in the brain that may help lucidity (like dopamine for example) are also responsible for the fight/flight or seek a mate reaction of our minds and bodies. Therefore, it might be the case that lucid dreamers get an increased occurrence of such events, DC aggression or too much sexy thoughts. That does not mean, however, that we should consider ourselves victims of chemical reactions or so because with practice you can learn to control this and you can significantly reduce these events over time.

One of the first things that one learns on the path of lucid dreaming is how our thoughts, expectations and emotions influence dream contents. By carefully observing how your normal dreams as well as lucid dreams unravel, you begin to notice that you are exerting significant subconscious pressure on the items of your dreams, which react accordingly. For example, if you have a dream (ld or non-ld) that you are in a dark place, maybe feel some sort of paranoia and stare at the door expecting someone to enter and start chasing you, the next moment it will be no surprise that they actually do. It takes a while to catch oneself doing these things, but in the long run you get better at understanding how this mechanism works and then you begin interrupting the process.

Some quick tips I can give for you to try out:

      - Have a dream goal. This is excellent for distracting you from whoever may be bothering you. If you don’t pay them attention, they will disappear.
      - Control your emotions and expectations. You can also try to reverse the situation, think that the DC is actually nice and act accordingly.

Ahhh thanks a lot! That makes sense, i've become so used to the DCs being potentially negative it will just happen if i think thats the way it should. i seem to remember thinking last night when i realised i was dreaming something like "theres a whoel lot of people here, one of them gonna notice" and just like you said about the door and someone chasing you, next thing i knew one of the DCs had reacted! Thanks a lot for the links and your comments NyxCC, i'll keep it all in mind (:

This! I had my first lucid dream half a week ago, and one of the first things I noticed is that all the DCs in the room with me (a large library like room) were all staring at me right after I became lucid! I wasn't really freaked out by it, I was more surprised since I hadn't read about this happening. The expressions were exactly like you describe! After that I moved on through different areas and the DCs were "normal" and ignoring me, just walking by. I like to think it was my SC caught unaware and not quite ready for my lucidity!
