I've only had two recalled dream re-entries, one lucid to non-lucid, and one non-lucid to lucid (hah, mix and match!), but yeah, the non-lucid to lucid one found me just all of a sudden staring at a bright image/scene, and was a bit curious about how that could happen because I knew I was lying in bed with my eyes closed .
