      DEILD Tips

I have just recently gotten back into lucid dreaming a few days ago and I have decided to put all my effort and focus into DEILD. Last night, one of my dreams was interrupted by the sound of my dog sitting down in my bath room. When I woke up I remembered to DEILD. I didn't open my eyes, but I must have moved at least a little because it took me a minute or two to get into sleep paralysis. Now that I have felt what SP truly is, I realized that was the first time I have felt it, making this technique already seem more fruitful than my failed attempts at WILD. I sat there for a couple more minutes, but I didn't experience any HH. Unfortunately, my attempt was ruined when my cat jumped up on me and totally broke my focus. In hindsight, I think i didn't become lucid before my cat jumped up on me because I was thinking too much about becoming lucid and falling asleep. Tips and help would be greatly appreciated.

I find it much easier to return to the dream you just woke up from instead of creating a whole new dreamscape. Your brain already has all the details of the previous dream so it has much less work to do. This allows you to just sleep into the previous dream much faster than if you were trying to enter a completely new scenario. Picture where you came from, all the sensory stimulation it gave you, and imagine yourself floating back into it, or perhaps the dream forming around you. Let this continue for a couple minutes or until you feel comfortable with the stability. Then carry on with whatever you want, either teleporting to a new scene if you didn't like the old one, or just picking up right where you left off.

If you can't get to the point where the dream begins to form, try focusing a little less on the things around you/the thoughts in your head. You're likely paying too much attention to these things which is stopping you from falling back asleep. You have to find a nice balance of awareness so that you can fall asleep without losing consciousness. Also, forms of WILD/DEILD don't have to include HH. Sometimes when I do a DEILD I'm just sort of back into the dream. No HH, no transition period, I'm just there.

Unfortunately, you can't really get around your cat jumping on you/waking you up, unless you put him in a cage, but that'd be mean . However, if you've been laying there for more than 10 minutes with no success, you'll likely just want to fall back asleep.

I actually was trying to go back into the dream I was having because I heard that was easier. It was a quite vivid dream, and I was trying to put myself back to right before I woke up. Thanks for the tips. It definitely would make sense that I am focusing too much on the things around me. I read some of your MIT, and I read that DEILD is your favorite technique. How often do you have lucid dreams with it and how long does it usually take from the time you awake to when you are lucid?

I've only had two recalled dream re-entries, one lucid to non-lucid, and one non-lucid to lucid (hah, mix and match!), but yeah, the non-lucid to lucid one found me just all of a sudden staring at a bright image/scene, and was a bit curious about how that could happen because I knew I was lying in bed with my eyes closed .

You have to dream before your dreams can come true.

Whenever I used to DEILD, once I felt sleep paralysis come, I would roll out of bed. Since I was in SP, it was actually my dream body that would roll out of bed. I would then feel my way around my house blind until dream visuals would start to appear. Then I'd do whatever. Usually I'd go to the bathroom and crawl through the mirror as a way to change dream scenes.

Hmm, that's an interesting idea, John11. I have heard something similar to it before, but I didn't know you can do it right when you feel SP come. I can't help but feel that if I roll out of bed it is actually my real body. Interesting nonetheless. I might try it.

I had an experience similar to this last night where I woke up after a dream in sleep paralysis but had trouble reentering the dream. While attempting it, my body felt...different. It felt as if my whole body was vibrating slightly under the lead blanket of sleep paralysis. This vibration would stop momentarily every few seconds but then resume. This has happened every time I have tried to WILD or DEILD and it is the most significant HH I experience. Any advice on turning this vibration into a lucid dream?

But on a better note, I had a DILD just by chance last night without even trying to.
