      Houston, the Eagle has landed!

Just awoke from my first LD! Yay!!

As far as LDs go it was nothing spectacular in and of itself, except for the fact I was aware I was dreaming!

The interesting thing is I wasn't even really focused in LDing tonight. I was really working on dream recall. I've been recalling more and more dreams and in greater detail lately. Over the past several nights I've recalled 8 one night and 7 another. So tonight I wanted to leverage that and used my cell phone alarm to periodically wake me based on the timings I've gathered from analyzing the past 6 weeks of DJing.

So the previous REM cycle I thought I awoke with a short dream recalled. For some reason I decided I'd wait for the alarm to go off in another few minutes and record it, however when the alarm did go off that's all I recalled. Sitting up in bed something struck me as odd. I don't remember looking at either my cell phone or bedside clock to ascertain the time, so how could I know it was almost time for the alarm to go off? Anyway I recorded that in my DJ, reset my cell phone alarm and went back to bed. I did have the thought that was a FA and some amount of waking awareness had seeped into that dream. Damn, I should have done a RC. Oh well.

So I go back to sleep and when I wake up again, I'm in my bed in my childhood home. I had some vague recall of the earlier episode, but I wasn't aware I shouldn't be waking up in a bed I haven't slept in over 40 years! So I do a hand RC and something's not right. My left hand doesn't have enough fingers, so I count again. Now it has 7? I look closer and one finger is really long and two others are kind of flat. Snap, I'm, dreaming!

The room is dark. I get up and start wandering around. No one else is around. Something tells me to touch some things. The bed, a wall, bend over and feel the floor. I walk into the hallway and look out a window. It's dark outside and the streetlights are on. I walk down the hall and into another bedroom that was my uncle's. I'm looking around and I get the idea I'm going to summon a childhood friend. I tried a few times but to no avail. The End.

All in all, it lasted about 2 or 3 minutes. The funny thing is when I first woke up it was like, okay, had a dream. I turn on the light, prop both pillows behind my head and grab my DJ to record. I'm writing all this down and it still hasn't occurred to me it was a LD, but then wait... I did a hand check RC and it failed! I touched stuff to stabilize. I tried to summon a DC. Heck, I just had my first LD!

Heheh, I'm sitting here typing absolutely thrilled! Not sure if I can go back to sleep.

So it's a beginning and I can see the potential. And so it begins...

By the way, thanks to all the folks who put in the work to make this site what it is! The admins, moderators, guides, instructors and all the folks, both experienced LDers and not so experienced who share their time and knowledge with others wanting to learn about LDing!

EDIT: Upon further reflection I can discern the differences between this dream and all my other dreams. In all my other dreams:

      1) I am basically following some script. It never occurs to me it can be any other way. In this dream I knew I had options. I was writing the script, not merely acting it out.

      2) I often experience strong emotions dictated by the script, content and interactions. In this dream I was calm, cool and collected. I definitely had much more of my waking awareness perceiving experience. I was more myself.

I'm glad to hear you made it to your first lucid dream. Keep it written down somewhere. The first lucid dream is always one of the most memorable.

Awesome. Really happy you stuck with this. If determination is any indicator (and it is), I am guessing you'll get quite good at lucid dreaming

      Thanks!

I'm still going over and over the experience. It's still as fresh as when I first awoke and as when I was actually in the dream.

      A couple additional observations.

I was alone in the dream. No one was in the house and when I looked out the window the street was empty. At that period of my life Mom, dad, my sister, my mom's parents, an uncle and his two sons lived in the house. It's also a major street and there's always traffic on it, even early in the morning. I can't recall another dream where I was the only character and nothing else was going on aside from the setting I found myself in.

It had an extremely surreal feel, even though the details inside the house and what I saw outside in the front yard and street were exceedingly accurate. Other dreams usually have some semblance to waking reality, but there are always oddities and things that just shouldn't be and sometimes things that just couldn't be, however I never question them and I'm convinced all is as it always is and always should be.

To be honest and the more I think about it, it's the most singularly unique experience I've ever had!

One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that we are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of living for the roses that are blooming today... Live for today, or we might never live a day in our lives.
