I think the best tip is to focus on observing the world while looking for clues about dream vs waking. In a dream there is very little detail on the back of your hand. In waking it has little line and veins. In a dream you may see veins but they sort of shift around; in waking they never move about. That sort of observation made about everything multiple times a day.

That has never been part of my approach. I would say you do not need to worry about it. I just stay aware and many times of the day try to determine how I can tell if I am awake. Ask yourself if you remember how you got to that place, what day it is, what you had for breakfast, look at your hands, touch something and see if it feels normal, read some text (it is very hard to do in a dream), see if things rearrange themselves when you look away, that sort of thing. Make it a habit and be open to the idea that you may be dreaming. Make it a serious attempt to figure out for sure if you are really awake. Soon you will stop to do this and realize you are clearly dreaming.

I also suggest not to "work at believing you are dreaming" while awake. There's nothing lucid about self-delusion. But you might observe how the contents of your consciousness are integrated and manifested by your brain, and that might induce the feeling you are seeking.

Ok ty for the advice, this does seem like itll have more of ana ffect than trying to force myself to believe thst i am dreaming, rather concluding that im awake seems easier

a pretty advanced reality check ends with the reflection that you are always dreaming and co-creating
but that maybe a little bit off-topic
anyway that's good to think about
