    1. Snake in Bed

      by , 10-01-2014 at 04:01 PM
Morning of October 1, 2014. Wednesday.

Dream #: 17,453-01. Reading time (optimized): 1 min.

In my final dream of this morning, I am in bed in the same location, orientation, and time as it is in reality in the early morning. Zsuzsanna wants a glass of water, and one appears in my hand without me getting out of bed (implying telekinesis). She says it tastes bitter.

I think the bitterness may be from when I was trying to block the ants from coming out of the ground in another dreaming experience this sleep cycle (as if this dream implies another dream was real, but with no recall of more dreaming experiences). I think the pheromones from the ants may have gotten into the water from my hands. However, that is not consistent, as my other dream took place in Cubitis in America, and this one takes place in our present home in Australia (though that discrepancy does not affect my dream self’s recall).

At this point, a snake seems to be in our bed on my right at first. It resembles a coral snake and seems to come from just under my shoulder. Soon, it is gone as if it was not there in the first place. I think I was probably incorrectly perceiving my arm to be a snake as discernibility is lost even though my dream was vivid otherwise.

I typically summon water (virtual melatonin) to sustain and vivify a dream, but in this case, its bitterness is because of my need to wake due to my arm being in an uncomfortable position.

    2. Strange Fishing and Gigantic Snake

      by , 07-22-2014 at 01:22 PM
Morning of July 22, 2014. Tuesday.

My dream starts with highly unorthodox fishing. The location seems to be a new composite of our old (and first) home on Gellibrand Street (Clayfield, in Queensland, Australia) mixed with my sister’s old home on Loomis Street (La Crosse, Wisconsin, in America). The main ambiguity of the composite is relative to the porches. There seem to be two couches, both oriented north to south and facing west (assuming the Loomis Street house orientation). One couch is on the porch and the other inside the main room (Loomis Street house living room or Gellibrand Street bedroom), where there are large windows open to the porch in direct view of the other couch.

The couch inside the house is like the one I had in Florida, where the seat lifts up and there is a larger storage area underneath utilizing large boxlike compartments. The fishing, oddly enough, can start when I fill the storage area with water. After a time, when the water fills the bottom and a part of the floor somehow (though not very deep), fish may start to somehow come in from a nearby source, seemingly because they can then swim from some sort of channel or conduit near the house into the area occupied by the couch. As bizarre as that sounds, and as aware that I am, I do not catch on that I am dreaming.

There is a scene where an unknown dark-haired girl in glasses is on the porch. About three monkeys had been on the back of the couch on the porch. I notice that the foam-like stuffing is coming out from at least two large tears over the top of the back of the couch. It looks as if it had been shredded in that area. I realize that the monkeys had been eating the foam. One is still there and eating some of the foam. The girl also eats some of it while standing behind the couch. I call to my brother-in-law Bob to say that the monkey is eating the foam, and the girl thinks I am referring to her when I say “monkey” and expresses both annoyance and amusement. This situation is not resolved, as I just go back to fishing under the other couch in the house.

I watch the water closely and soon notice a fish (which I am aware came through a conduit near the wall or baseboard that connects to a larger body of water somewhere) following my bait in the storage area (as the couch seat is still up), which is a large earthworm I had put on a hook. Even though the water seems shallow, it swims and hooks itself and I catch it. It appears to be a small rock bass. I am also aware of a few other small fish; too small to bother with. After a time, I notice a shadow that seems like a very large fish, although this of course is not logical due to the shallow water. I believe it may be a large snake. I manage to hook it but decide to leave the house, leaving my fishing equipment behind, in case it is venomous.

I go into the kitchen and even though I am not lucid, I have full control of some events. The long, larger blacksnake comes into the room, but my brother-in-law will likely be able to deal with it and get it to go back outside. My sister Marilyn (deceased in reality) is also present. I rise in the air and not only do I have precise control of where I am in the air, I am able to stand “solidly” wherever I want in midair in any area of the room. This control is so precise, it is almost hard for me to believe now, when awake. Of course I get as close to the ceiling as possible in case the snake tries to strike, but mostly I move about in standing position in midair at various heights. Standing in midair does not seem unusual at all.

In the last part of my dream, when the snake has been forced back outside, I eventually go outside and to a small overpass over a large culvert area, which seems similar to the area my son took martial arts classes but larger and more expansive. Looking down, I see a tremendously large lighter brown serpent moving out from under the arced bridge below. Its head alone is about the size of three buses side-by-side. I do not even think about the extreme unlikelihood that a snake could be so impossibly huge and I see it as the “same” snake from earlier. (I am also aware that I had beckoned it somehow with my expectant waiting and readiness to see it, knowing it had likely left the house but just wanting to be sure it had left the house.) I am not really afraid. I am getting ready to inform my relatives about the snake being outside now when a pickup truck drives into and over it somehow. As the truck goes over it at an angle, leaving deep tire tracks on the top of its body, I notice that this huge serpent is seemingly being “destroyed” because it is like very soft mud. A couple more vehicles go over it, leaving deep ruts on its head and back until it is difficult to tell the giant snake from muddy recesses and inclinations.

Over time, the “same” blacksnake from before that had been in the house somehow comes from out of the “mangled” tremendous serpent as if it is still somehow the same snake all this time and it seems unharmed, though slightly sluggish.

This may relate, on one level, to my digestive system. I have come to learn that, since early childhood, a snake, depending on my dream (and dream type), is often associated with the intestines (due to the shape and the coiling factor). In this particular case, there are other clues, such as the kitchen (place where I eat and drink), the implied conduit (digestive passage), lifting the couch seat up and filling with water (a possible toilet symbol), eating the wrong food (too much sugar or salt) as the foam stuffing from the other couch eaten by the monkeys and unknown girl, and too much monkeying around and needing to “put on glasses” to see more clearly what I am really consuming. Seeing the snake become huge (a bigger digestion problem than usual), but yet return to normal with focus and drive.

A snake, when rendered more realistically, is a main biological RAS waking alert, though does not fully serve that function here. However, I am on a bridge watching it below me. A bridge symbolizes a potential shift in consciousness, so that RAS potential is still a part of my dream’s dynamics.

    3. Big Green Snake to Little Green Caterpillar

      by , 04-24-2014 at 10:24 AM
Morning of April 24, 2014. Thursday.

I become semi-lucidly aware of my common water induction stage (though semi-lucidity of which does not continue viably), but the swimming pool I perceive seems only about half the depth it should be. (Thus, a precursor of water lowering waking symbolism is already present.) I notice that one of my dumbbells, with weights, is at the bottom of the pool. The water is clear.

I sense that other people are around, a few looking in my direction, yet I do not see them. I find myself handling a large green viper. I am wary but I do not feel as if I am in immediate danger. Unseen people seem to come closer to my apparent public performance. Eventually, I look at my hand and see only a small green caterpillar crawling on the back of it. I am puzzled, trying to recall what it originally was that I was holding.

As a caterpillar is associated with butterflies and moths, it is probably a precursor to vestibular system correlation (including in cases where the ear “flutters”), offset from what started as RAS modulation (the snake, which is the most common biological form of the waking alert factor as RAS modulation). Non-lucid dream control came into the sequence as it often has in previous dreams. I had non-lucidly transformed the RAS modulation factor as well as the potential vestibular system correlation.

    4. Snake Fountain

      by , 04-17-1983 at 10:17 AM
Morning of April 17, 1983. Sunday.

In the past I have stated that a snake may sometimes relate to associations with the human intestine in dreams (because of their shape and the fact that they coil). A few times, this connection has even been proven - for example, the “Fer-de-Lance (Reprise)” dream.

Here is another example. I went to sleep with somewhat of a stomach ache. I am in an unknown coastal city, but which has features of my old primary school in Florida. There is a large ancient-looking water fountain near one esplanade area. There are several unknown people walking around.

Just under the water’s surface, I notice large snakes sort of moving through the water more like fish. Over time, they take on the characteristics of human waste but are still snakes. There is a vague uneasiness as if one should not go near the fountain even though I sense that the snakes are not able to leave the water.

It could not be more obvious that in this particular case, snakes represent human waste (especially as they had the appearance as such). What I am looking at in this dream is an upsized toilet. My stomachache was not even needed for confirmation in this case.

    5. A Snake Puppet and waking with a numb arm

      by , 11-09-1981 at 05:09 PM
Morning of November 9, 1981. Monday. Last reviewed and supplemented on Friday, 28 July 2017.

I become aware that I am sitting on the left arm of a couch in what seems to be the Loomis Street house. However, there is a feeling that the orientation is rotated in layout from the south wall of the living room to north wall of the dining room, so that the left arm of the couch is on the east side rather than the west side. It is not known if my dream implies that the living room and dining room have exchanged their locations as I am not focused on much other detail. I do see that there is a small side table on the left of the couch, which has at least a lamp and a rotary telephone. Still, it might be implied that I am in the dining room rather than the living room as I am vaguely aware of what could be the kitchen entrance farther off to my right rather than what would otherwise be the entrance from the porch.

An unknown male is sitting on the couch to my right, but not that close to me at first, only close enough to just reach me with his left hand. He seems to be an unknown and unfamiliar door-do-door salesman, possibly in his thirties.

He has a large snake hand puppet which covers nearly his entire left arm. It is not that realistic, though not as simple as a sketchy cartoon-like model.

He does not try to convey the idea that the puppet is talking though he does makes its mouth move. He does not seem to express that he knows that I know it is just a puppet. Perhaps he does not realize that I know it is just a puppet. (This is not certain.)

At another point, he mostly seems to remain behind the left side of the side table on the opposite side of me (to my left), reaching around with his left arm from the front. I make no attempt to acknowledge him or communicate in any way. Although he does not seem threatening, I remain annoyed, because I feel he is being childish, especially as my dream self identity is probably about twenty years old and such an approach is not what I would consider entertaining or even amusing. Although it seems he would have had to teleport to change position in this way (as I did not see him walking or moving to my knowledge), I do not think about his location changing as such and curiously, I do not see him as an imposer, only an annoying person of whom I do not reflect as having any backstory in this scenario.

When I awake, my left arm is numb, due to having my weight on it. (This is not a common event.)

I do not believe that this dream is relevant to my conscious self’s day to day reality, and therefore, I do not believe that it has an “interpretation”. Here is why I believe this:

I believe that my awareness of the lamp on my left solely relates to my potential to become more aware in real time within my dream. I believe that the telephone on my left relates to either potential real-time communication with other levels of my consciousness or possibly thoughts perceived as originating from other people. I do not believe that there is any more to it than this because the experience is in real time, and is not a “recording” to “interpret” after the fact. (After all, in real life, you would go by what you experience as it is happening, not make claims that features like lamps or tables were something else the day before.)

The fact that I am “sitting on the left arm” of the couch rather than its seat implies liminal awareness that there is compromising weight on my left arm as I sleep.

The personified preconscious’s form as a door-to-door salesman implies a persona or feature that I would perhaps only see once, or at least not very often. The puppet is on his left arm, which means he is, in a rather odd and indirect way, trying to relay that my left arm is in a problematic position.

A puppet in a dream, in previous dreams, has been validated to be an “invitation” for my dream self to take control of my dream (though this same symbolism has also been validated as such in non-lucid dreams in most cases). In this case, it seems more about waking up and gaining control of my left arm.

Biological waking symbolism (more specifically, paresthesia waking symbolism) is the foundation of this dream and there is no reason to read more into it other than perhaps signifying the snake as a healing factor in getting my arm to move correctly again. The fact that the snake is not that realistic may be because my arm does not have its full natural use at the time.

Note that I have studied a lot of dreams in which a snake features. A snake often has completely different meanings in different dreams, which only the dreamer of the dream can come to correctly resolve.

    6. War of the Serpents (with sheet music)

      by , 09-11-1979 at 03:11 PM
Morning of September 11, 1969. Thursday.

My dream starts with an atypical unseen narrator who says, without emotion: “New York Harbor 1969. The city is a mess”.

I am flying over Manhattan in the first scene. I am semi-lucid and vividly aware of curious saxophone and xylophone music (never heard in real life); a series of repeated staccato notes. My sheet music image (only available on some websites with this entry) is close to what I heard in my dream. There is a later version where the third set of eighth notes in each motif is removed, giving a sense of anticipation.

On websites where the image is not available, the eighth notes (except for the last C, a quarter note) are: C C C C, C D C D, C D C D, E E E E, E F E F, E F E F, G G G G, G A G A, G A G A, A G G F, F E E D, C. The tempo is about 84 at first, though is accelerando. The music becomes a bit more intense yet with a less audible orchestral sound in the background, as if the volume is turned down though later up again. (This effect has happened in other dreams, usually when the level of dream state awareness changes, as sometimes the closer I am to waking, the less number of instruments are heard.)

Looking directly down as I fly, I watch a giant snake swim through the water, moving along on the water’s surface. (As such, my dream’s foundation is the most common form; water induction, as water symbolizes sleep dynamics in real time.) The snake is so large that it knocks aside boats (mostly tugboats) as it moves. However, there is also a brief awareness that the snake is of normal size and the debris is more like small pieces of bark, leaves, and twigs as I seemingly watch the “same” scene much closer to the water’s surface (as if of a small lake) before the implication changes again. At this point I also get the distinct impression that I am standing or hovering in my orb form (while incorporeal) to the left of the doorway in the southwest bedroom (not where I slept) at the same time I am dreaming this (with a vague association with having looked into our full bathtub and toilet while somehow sleepwalking, though I had not been). This bilocated impression (typical of a lot of my childhood dreams) does not continue. Helicopters fly over the Statue of Liberty and there is more news about the attack on Manhattan as apparently giant snakes came from a crashed flying saucer (as if perhaps manlike aliens, though unseen, and possibly from two different planets, lost control of their spacecraft for an unknown reason). There are two kinds of giant snakes that fight each other. One kind seems friendlier to humans. I watch a lot of the monster-movie-like battles though my dream eventually shifts to my home in Cubitis, and my previous lucid threads fade.

I am chasing a baby giant snake (which is my height in its upright “S” form) in a southerly direction, from the end of our driveway, near Highway Seventeen, and moving past the west side of our large culvert. The snake is the recurring Pepto Bismol pink that was fairly common in my dreams around this time period (after my mother had me drink it in real life). It is somehow quickly slithering upright like a standing (vertical) letter S and moving much like a swan. I am fearlessly chasing it, to make it leave the area so that bigger snakes do not eventually come by to investigate. Suddenly, when I get past the neighbor’s house a short distance, the snake looks “confused” (and I get the impression of an actual question mark floating in the air over its head very briefly, a curious feature of other childhood dreams, likely influenced by comic strips) and it turns around to start chasing me. I raise my arms up and out as I am now running away, but as if the scene is meant to be comedic or playful.

This continues for a short time when suddenly, the snake and I are very good friends. We are now at the end of the driveway, where I first found myself chasing it. I am holding the large snake in my arms like a baby, which is eventually even wearing an old-fashioned pale blue baby bonnet and held within a white baby blanket and is now going to sleep.

I am aware that the War of the Serpents will continue, possibly to the point where a lot more regions will be damaged. My parents do not appear at any point, and in fact, I do not interact with anyone I know in real life. Later, I am calm in the presence of a few giant black snakes (though my dream fades when I start flying again). This likely relates to the fact that black snakes were considered good due to a reputation where I lived of them supposedly chasing off rattlesnakes, which seems the main origin of my dream’s otherwise science-fiction theme.

This dream has two discernible attempts at subliminal reinduction (a non-lucid attempt to vivify or extend the dream state, though I am semi-lucid when my dream begins). Firstly, my dream begins with typical water induction (my most common form of dream state initiation). A snake is the primary (biological) reticular activating system symbol (RAS mechanism), due to having evolved out of the natural fear that primates have of snakes, and thus RAS renders it as the potential waking trigger (in generating enough emotion as an “alert” for the purpose of waking the dreamer to attend to real physical needs), though a snake will sometimes relate to different factors (sometimes literal) and symbolism depending on the dream type, which only the dreamer could understand the origin and validation of in any case.

My first attempt at reinduction (even though I am still in the water as sleep initiation stage, though already with the snake as a potential RAS factor) is evidenced by the music having a similar essence as snake-charming music, to delay RAS waking dynamics. The second attempt is far more obvious and easier to validate. I succeed in harmoniously putting the snake to sleep (which represents willfully though subliminally decreasing RAS dynamics that might otherwise wake me up) at the end of the driveway, which symbolizes the subliminal awareness of eventually needing to wake up and stand at the end of my driveway to wait for the school bus. Dreams are very easy to understand once ignorant superstition and “interpretation” is cast aside in the acknowledgement of what dreams actually are. It should be emphasized that this dream began with conscious choice of first deliberately “stepping into” (and then flying within) my dream’s water-based environment (as I have done thousands of times since childhood and for over fifty years), which is also why the bilocated essence regarding another bedroom (obvious dream state indicator) in our house came into focus. (It should also be obvious that the baby snake additionally symbolizes a mild stomach ache, and the RAS “taming” of it for a few reasons; one, actually being the color of stomach ache medicine, two, being shaped like a human intestine, and three, stomach pain associated with a snake that squeezes its prey.)

    7. The Owl Saved Me

      by , 12-27-1977 at 06:27 PM
Night of December 27, 1967. Wednesday.

      Dream #: 373-02. Reading time: 1 min 10 sec.

It is late at night, possibly after midnight, and there is an eerie semi-darkness seemingly caused by a full moon. I am alone in an isolated rural area, probably near a farm. I am walking down an unknown dirt road near a cornfield with cornstalks about twice as tall as I am. I am aware that a rattlesnake is following me. It remains less than ten feet behind me as I am walking. The setting is not frightening, but I am concerned about the snake. (I get the impression that it may be in Wisconsin though I am living in Florida at the time.)

Soon, a big owl swoops down and grabs the snake in its talons and starts eating it. For a short time, I think maybe the owl will not win, as the snake seems wrapped around one wing of the owl. I get the impression that the owl did it to save me, but the event may have been coincidental. (The scene plays out with visuals from the Time-Life Nature Library book “The Birds.” My dream is extraordinarily vivid. I was close to being aware that I was dreaming. The owl coming down may have been a semi-lucid event regarding self-preservation.)

There were other dreams during this time relating to owls with eyes of two different colors (imagery also borrowed from “The Birds”). It is as if I am watching a virtual slideshow while incorporeal. One such dream came seemingly about half an hour to fifteen minutes before this one.

The image below is from a larger photograph taken on the 26th of December in 1967 at North Monroe Street in Florida. At the age of 7, I am holding the book that was the inspiration for this vivid dream.

    8. "The Four-Fanged Snake of Swamp Garden"

      by , 11-16-1975 at 04:05 PM
Morning of November 16, 1975. Sunday.

This dream repeated in a few variations. It is sort of a “trick dream” in that it includes what I think is a clever variation on the outcome of presumed events. I have had many like these but mostly when in my early teens. It is a typical “every man” archetype (or warning of mainstream western mentality) very similar to “I’m Eager Beaver”, which include people who pretend to know about dreams but have no clue, living behind a facade, shaping them into something far from the Source and with as much distraction and deception as possible.

The location is usually based to the east of my Cubitis home. It is not a large cow pasture in the dream, though, but a place called “Swamp Garden” (I do not believe this name was in the earliest version) - which is not really an area for tourists or anything - it is just what it is called by the locals. It is actually supposedly a dangerous place of which a lot of legends were supposedly born. I am not quite sure why it is called a garden other than the plants seemingly growing in rows like in a vegetable garden. There are cases where people go in to get special herbs and such. It does not seem that big of a swamp - it is actually quite sparse.

One of these legends of Swamp Garden related to a large mythical snake that supposedly has four large, equally-sized fangs in the top of his head (rather than the usual two main ones in rattlesnakes). It is possibly just a mutation. It is somewhat like a rattlesnake and also somewhat like a blue racer according to what people have reported. When I was young, a lot of myths and folklore were spread about various kinds of snakes, though I had heard nothing of a “four-fanged snake” in real life. The dream, in its variations, was sometimes more like a documentary (where I am following the character but not directly present) - other times more like a lucid sequence.

One of the people making a documentary tells of two bold encounters with the four-fanged snake. Over time, though, a clever twist is related in the dream. It turns out that they were two different snakes, one with a wider bite, so that the smaller snake, when coincidentally biting him on the back of the hand in the same general location - seemed to create an impression of four fang marks (supposedly caused by the one bite of the legendary creature). He becomes well-known for his encounter even though it was not what it seemed. He dramatizes the event through recreations of the encounter and makes it out to be long and eventful (even though in actuality it was just a couple brief nonvenomous snake bites).

On my own private journey (I am not filming anything or making a documentary), I actually encounter the snake, but there is no drama or fear. He remains in a large bush as I walk about in the area, but I am able to confirm that it is a large snake with four fangs. There is also a part where I also see a blue racer which is glowing and moving through a mist over the ground.

In one of the final versions of the dream, I stand on an embankment and say, almost lovingly, “I know you’re out there…" This was one of those dreams which starts out occurring mostly in fragments - then later becomes almost epic - then in versions later on, becomes slightly fragmented (though sometimes more personal) again.

Later, this came to be like a personal symbol for "every man” in mainstream culture in a way; for example, so-called psychics (who supposedly control their “abilities” and charge people for “advice”) as compared to so many people who experience spontaneous precognition on a regular basis far more than “commercial” psychics and never become known at all through their lifetime (which can only be a good thing). The swamp here represents the mystery of the Source, and the four-fanged snake, an aspect of the Source many people seemingly never confront in a lifetime for whatever reason.

    9. Dream Meanings in Full: The Boneyard

      by , 09-13-1975 at 03:13 PM
Morning of September 13, 1975. Saturday.

Somehow, my best friend Toby T—-r and I end up in a very isolated area of Australia (I do not recall any backstory other than the perception of having walked over an embankment), seemingly far inland, with no towns close by in any direction.

It is apparently an isolated place called the “Boneyard” and is seemingly a special archaeological site relating to Australian Aboriginal rituals as well as lost treasures and gemstones, mostly opals. There are rocky hills in all directions when we explore one area. At one point, it seems like a school field trip even though I feel as if I am an adult. We find ancient artifacts which are supposedly very valuable in addition to various smaller human bones. We do a lot of work and at one point, are trying to interpret carvings on old stones. We put everything in the same large grayish green bag. I am not sure of the material. I do not think it is burlap.

After a time, a dangerous snake shows up (I am unsure of the species, but it is perceived by my dream self as venomous, and is possibly a krait). One of us, I am not sure if it was Toby or me, as there seems to be a jump ahead in time at one point, apparently had trapped the snake in the bag earlier without considering it was what we were using to put the artifacts in.

We later gather several more valuable items to put in the bag. There seems to be some sort of argument (non-violent) about possible translations on some Aboriginal dreaming stones or whether certain ones were made by Aborigines or pirates.

Near the end of my dream, there seems to be some sort of ironic special ending about getting to the valuable artifacts. Because the snake is in the bag, we would not be safe if we put our hands in it. This seems to be some sort of O-Henry-like dream climax, but in reality, there would be a few options to getting the artifacts, yet in my dream they somehow ultimately seem inaccessible.

Familiar dream state components and meaning:

Prescient threads: It is pertinent here to go into the precognitive dynamics of this dream before the usual core symbolism. Although my “mystery girl” (dream girl) is not present in this dream, it does take place in Australia. Not only that, Zsuzsanna, when I learned many years later that she was a real person, had not only been to an area to find opals when she was young, she also has an Aboriginal Churinga dreaming stone of the same appearance as one which featured in this dream. This is especially curious as I had no viable knowledge of such things when this dream occurred (and did not really know much about it until after coming to Australia). Additionally, this dream took place on her birthday, though “mystery girl” dreams certainly were not restricted to literal markers.

RAS symbolism: This dream amused me with the nature of its intriguing ending. There was no real threat, as I had started to enter semi-lucidity in the final stages. A snake is often the core RAS dynamic (likely the oldest waking trigger in all primates, including man). Toby is present for preconscious mediation with only mild conflict relating to reading (translation) skills, which symbolize the emergent consciousness factor (as critical thinking skills normally do not function in dreams). The bag with the snake inside is likely associated with waking space and RAS - analogous to a pillow case, as it was about the same size as one. As such, the bag could be typified as a second-level dream state indicator, that is, residual subliminal memory of having fallen asleep (as it is biologically impossible for the mind to not be aware it is sleeping and dreaming, which is why much dream content is based on the dream state itself in the inherent nature of waking from sleep).

    10. Library airport seems “Chitty”?

      by , 10-23-1974 at 04:23 PM
Night of October 23, 1974. Wednesday.

I am in my middle school library, in eighth grade, the middle area of the first aisle, and it seems an atypical time for being there, perhaps even at night. There are two girls together at another large table, south of me, facing me (though I originally seemed to be seated facing north; my dream apparently “jumping” into a different orientation). I ignore their presence for a time (one being Patty A, which is not feasible, as she would have been in high school this year). I get the strong impression that the very large boa constrictor (which was killed in real life during a break-in with much other damage to my school, by continuously being struck against the wall) is in a vivarium about halfway up on a long bookcase, between rows of books. There is a sort of vague dream within a dream (more like a daydream within my dream) that I somehow indirectly protect the girls from the escaped snake and also an impression that it crawled near their feet without them realizing it. This also seems like some sort of brief “reset” in a typical dream “replay” at one level. (Regarding the antique car in the next paragraph - “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” - there is an odd association with Patty’s friend Olga, regarding the sound of the name being similar to the car horn sound “ooga”.) Nevertheless, I could not imagine what kind of person or persons would indulge in such activity regarding the real-life events concerning the break-in, especially in thoughtlessly killing the pet snake. There were also bomb scares in real life (especially in May of 1974), and evacuations that year.

From to my left on the shelf, midway up, I pull out a very large, heavily annotated edition of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” which also oddly seems to be Bible-like (possibly because of the serpent association). I get the impression that the library is also an airport - in that there is a larger airport within the library rather than the other way around. I contemplate the possible likelihood of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” actually being one of the vehicles used in flight to and form the supposed airport. Not much else happens, although I sense I am supposed to be in a classroom at the time but am not due to stubbornness and disinterest (and I am also somewhat concerned about not being dressed appropriately and seemingly wearing light blue and white vertically striped pajamas at one point).

There seems to be a lot of strange criticism of the book in the annotations (with various notes on how unlikely or ambiguous each paragraph’s events are), and implying the author (Ian Fleming) was in a psychiatric hospital at the time he wrote it as well as unable to walk or move much. I also wonder if any of the airplanes from this place would be safe to travel on, also contemplating my leave of school with no plan to come back because of the possible lack of safety, as I falsely recall that flying in a poorly maintained aircraft is how I get to and from school. I do not question any of the various errors in my dream scene perspective (such as school-library-airport composites). Supposedly “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” in-dream is considered the worst book ever written according to critics, also wrongfully implying it being solely for ages four and under. In reality, I really liked the movie (and the book was not bad in my opinion, either) though never took critics seriously in any way as it is, though as can be expected the name “Chitty” was altered to its expletive form by classmates and even kids from the elementary school.

    11. Snakes in Turtles

      by , 06-01-1974 at 12:01 PM
Morning of June 1, 1974. Saturday.

In this dream, I am solely an acknowledged member of an older, more traditional tribe of Native Americans (Shawnee). We have apparently found a few turtles of a special new species in the area of our side yard just north of our carport, but they eventually are (or had transformed into) a group of snakes that have apparently crawled into the remains of turtles and possibly though incidentally cause some people to think they are turtles, and who may take them home or perhaps get “too close” to “escape”. An older male tries to capture one though I am not sure if it is to use in a ritual or to eat.

This waking metaphor renders the preconscious and emerging consciousness as a snake and turtle composite, but that is quite easy to understand for those who have actually worked with their dreams and understand that most (non-lucid) dreams are waking transitions and dreaming and waking metaphors - the snake because a dreamer sometimes moves about on his or her stomach when lying in bed, and a turtle due to the dreamer getting out of bed being analogous to a turtle coming out of its shell (as well as out from underneath the blanket). (It should also be obvious that snakes and turtles may represent other things depending on the dream type, level of awareness, and either induction or waking stage types.)

Regarding direct influence, this mainly relates to the “Noggin Nodder” cereal toy surprises I had at the time, where one was a turtle and one was a snake in a log. You could put the snake’s head (and longer neck) in the turtle’s body and it would work the same as with the intended turtle model. (There was also a dog in a doghouse and a duck as well as other animals, thus you could make a “duck-dog” as well as a “duck in a doghouse” or a “snake in a doghouse” among other unlikely combinations. I have tried researching this again recently but can no longer find much information or the number of various photos I found online years ago.

    12. The Flying Snake

      by , 03-02-1974 at 09:02 AM
Night of March 2, 1974. Friday.

I am in my room in Cubitis very late at night (possibly a couple hours before dawn). I am in my bed, with my head to the north, and on my right side, my bed along the west wall. I am looking out my window into our large front yard. I maintain a very vivid state of awareness but I am not lucid.

I see a shadowy form move through the sky over our front yard (from the northwest) and land on a branch of one of the three young silver oak trees (aligned north to south and a few feet from my windows), the rightmost one from my viewpoint. I am trying to work out if it is a hawk that has caught a snake or if it is actually a flying snake. It turns out to be a flying snake, but is somewhat awkward in its movements. It has large bat-like wings. I mostly only discern its silhouette against the background of the sky. It flies toward our neighbor’s house to the south. I vividly feel “privileged” to have seen it and also feel a sense of both mystery and increased well-being.

Resupplemented for a clearer and more detailed explanation on Saturday, 2 December 2017.

My dream starts with me being in bed. This obviously means I have a residual thread of conscious self memory at having gone to bed but without viably remembering I am asleep.

My act of looking out my window directly relates to a subliminal attempt to look through my real eyes or link to my conscious self identity (and recent memory thereof), which is presently inactive to some extent despite my dream’s vividness.

The flying snake is a real-time composite of two RAS-related factors. A snake is the primary mechanism of RAS (though depending on the dream type, a snake may relate to real-life associations, such as a warning about a frayed electrical cord or an intestinal issue - due to its shape and coiled appearance, though if a snake is rendered vividly or realistically as one of the last features, it is likely only RAS and thus completely unrelated to “interpretation”), typically rendered to induce enough emotion to trigger waking (as a biological necessity, including to attend to real physical needs, but sometimes as a result of a real environmental noise of which the source is unknown to the unconscious). Flight is related to inner ear dynamics and the nature of not correctly perceiving the physical body while unconscious.

Because of my near-lucidity (though not viable lucidity), the RAS dynamics are intriguing in this case. The typical perception of “falling” out of the dream state (the natural dynamic of becoming conscious) is transmuted to this otherwise unique feature and as a result, I have a soft, enjoyable awakening from the illusion of the dream state. This is “exit flight waking symbolism”, which is a very common type of waking symbolism (and typically unrelated to real life or the conscious self).

    13. The Longest Snake in the World

      by , 04-01-1973 at 10:01 AM
Morning of April 1, 1973. Sunday.

I am in my backyard in Cubitis and there is what is supposedly “the longest snake in the world” a few feet south of me though I do not really feel in danger at any time. A few other unknown and unfamiliar people are around. It is a long skinny black snake that does not seem very threatening. In fact, I am not even sure if it is that much alive, though it does show some minimal signs of life. Its head is at the southeast corner of the house near the utility room and the rest of it is lined easterly across the yard almost to the weedy area prior to the train track embankment.

There is an unusual but rather vague idea that it will grow longer and longer until it reaches around the world, yet that seems not at all inevitable as it does not seem to be growing or even moving much. Not much happens, and it stays in the same area for the most part.

It is very clear here that the snake is a “replacement” for a virtual fence between my yard and the girl who lives next door (where no barrier of any kind exists in reality). Even though the idea of a black snake keeping rattlesnakes away (which I heard fairly often during this time period) is probably not true, that does not stop a dream from utilizing such a myth. Therefore, the black snake analogy as fence and as protector is consistent as a fence also protects in a different way. In other words, at the time, I seemed to believe the girl next door needed protection from me even though the relationship we had never developed into harmful long-term repercussions. Is there a “temptation” layer as snakes sometimes represent? Perhaps on one level due to the deplorable Adam and Eve myth but only if one has heard it once too often. I could step over this virtual fence but I do not (though I do not feel threatened by it). Therefore, the snake serves as a fence, a protector, and as a reminder of temptation - all in one concise composite that dreams are so intriguingly known for.

    14. The Pink Snake that Tried to Follow Me Home

      by , 10-13-1972 at 03:59 PM
2 minutes and 15 seconds to read.

      Friday morning, 13 October 1972.

The Pink Snake that Tried to Follow Me Home

      Dream # 2,125-04.

While dreaming, I have dream state awareness, but I do not change the ongoing implication that is only mildly annoying. I occasionally feel vague abdominal cramps through the veil of sleep, aware of my status but without pain.

A small, skinny Pepto Bismol pink snake follows me through the empty halls of my middle school but is always a few feet behind me.
I do not attempt to run from it. I perceive it as friendly but annoying. I do not think about whether it is venomous or not.

I look back and see it atop a row of lockers. It almost seems to be grinning, more with friendly curiosity, not a threat. It sometimes hides.

At one point, I wonder if it might be a relative, perhaps an uncle visiting from Wisconsin whom I have not met, or even my grandfather. Its essence is more like part of a cartoon in contrast to being realistic.

I continue to walk north, going home to Cubitis from Arcadia. (I never walked this route in real life as it was too far.) I walk through abstract and undefined spaces (some with indoor-outdoor ambiguity, others merely abstract), though still focused on returning home (even though I am already home and in bed sleeping).

As I think less about the snake and more about walking home, I realize it is probably not following me anymore. I decide to teleport home, which brings about wakefulness as I teleport.

I have had many dreams where my dream self perceives deliberately waking up as teleporting. This error in thinking (in ambiguous metacognitive or liminal states that most dream writers pretend do not exist) is no different than protoconsciousness referring to a dream as a “movie.” It is flawed dynamic imagination and natural virtual amnesia (incomplete pathways from not being conscious). There is no reason to be stupid about it.

The snake in this dream is Pepto Bismol pink.
(I drank a lot of Pepto Bismol when I was a child and did not find out until recently that children under 12 should not drink it.)

      Pink
is rarely a color that noticeably occurs in my dreams but is more often Pepto Bismol pink - which I always have the dream state awareness of as being so and sometimes become annoyed at how the color is “interfering” with my dream’s narrative, though all pink is not exclusively so. I usually do not put “meaning” into specific colors unless I understand what they “represent” while in the dream state.

      Snakes
(with no “convenient” singular “meaning”) sometimes appear in my dreams when I have abdominal cramps with indigestion. (This causality was more common in childhood.) This factor is not “interpretation” (which I know is an asinine fallacy) but the realization of underlying dream content influence, not opinion or pretending, as so many do. One association I have always had is a snake’s similarity to the human intestine because of its size and shape. There are many dreams more specific under this influence. (An additional factor relates to a boa constrictor squeezing a person’s abdomen.) Ultimately, snakes appear in dreaming experiences for many reasons in the realms of imagination, but the connection to the human intestine remains predominant for me (other than the vivid but generic waking alert/RAS dream outcomes).

    15. The Old Shack (long-term precognition)

      by , 08-24-1970 at 12:22 PM
Morning of August 24, 1970. Monday.

This dream, I consider one of my most significant and “unexplainable” childhood dreams, as well as it being one of the longest of the time period. I called it “The Old Shack” in my original childhood journal. My dream’s back story started by three classmates and I (Tina L, Brenda W, and best friend Toby T) doing a real-life-based childish routine on the song “Sugar Shack” and pretending to mess up in timing, and going “whoops, it exploded… boom!” …“accidentally” (on purpose) flowing into the Nancy Sinatra song “Sugar Town”. School had gotten out June 5th this year.

My dream featured a strange old (fictional) wooden building (a “sugar shack” I had supposed - but not really - one room had an old bed we all “slept” on which seemed to be oriented from the middle of the south wall) where one room on the north end of the main room seemed sort of “burned” or dark, with very loose and missing floorboards as well as missing wall and ceiling parts - and appeared in different ways at different times (in terms of age). The only other feature in this shack of note are ragged curtains with only about fifty percent of the cloth left. There was a strong emotional focus on my dream at the time, but I did not know why. My dream also had typically recurring elements. The juvenile (in this case) “four in a bed” concept likely but innocently could have been inspired by promos (or newspaper theater advertisements) for “Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice”, though I had no idea what the movie related to other than from the Mad Magazine parody us four read in real life (and of course did not really find that amusing - and it certainly did not encourage us into looking forward to being “idiotic” adults, though I usually enjoyed most features in Mad Magazine), though I do not know the day it was bought - the cover date says September 1970, but it likely was available in June 1970 or earlier. The hair color (three dark, one blonde) matched, and I had a brother-in-law named Bob and a sister (not Bob’s wife) named Carol.

In my dream, a normal rabbit (possibly modeled after my mother’s pet rabbit Cindy, though it seemed wild in my dream) had gone through the doorway that led in and out of the unusual room (though the floor did not seem strong enough or complete enough to walk on or even to actually enter the room). Later, it was a giant rabbit (bigger than a horse), but was not dangerous in any way. There is also a part where a snake grows larger but does not threaten us - though we do see it crawl past the open front door (on the east side of the building - the back door being on the west side), being about half the height of the doorway and this concerns Tina. At one point (when events are getting to a point where we need to leave), she says (in her “fake” British accent) “…but what about the rabbit?”

Tina had placed a sparrow with a broken wing through the doorway at one point, and it had begun to grow larger. It eventually becomes a pterodactyl after flying over the shack and she seems a bit concerned about what she did. She also puts an old wilted bouquet of flowers (from the southwest dusty corner of the large room) through the doorway and the blooms become fresh. I am not sure how the room works at any point. Does it move through time (thus causing other things to change), or just make things bigger at times? I can understand how the sparrow became a pterodactyl if prehistoric “throwbacks” (as well as futuristic ones) are implied with time shifting, but that does not explain why the rabbit (and snake) - as well as my thumb near the last scene - just became larger.

My friend Toby (who is wearing a cheap wristwatch) sticks his hand through the doorway to “test” it somehow (based on curiosity about how other things that had happened - such as the restoration of part of the torn curtain to becoming complete and like new) and ends up with a changed watch that is complex and computerized - there even seems to be a miniature slot machine video game on it (before I ever saw or heard of computer games as such). In real life, years later, such things actually existed as seen in my dream years before, which I found quite interesting.

Near the final scenario, I had placed my right hand through the doorway and my thumb cramped up in great pain and grew nearly twice as large (I do not typically experience this level of pain in a dream).

My dream had ended by me trying to reach an apparently known “portal” after running out the back door (though I am not sure what influenced this - possibly a “Star Trek” episode) and across a mostly featureless large grassy field, around the same time that the reddish pterodactyl (that had transformed from the sparrow) made a shadow on the ground near me as I was running (and I assume that it was ready to attack me) and I just made it through the old isolated trellis which was being used as an arched gate as part of a broken fence - which was supposedly the “portal” from my dream into reality (and probably the “cure” for whatever the room in the shack had changed) - though I am beginning to only become slightly lucid at this point (the situation nearly identical in mood and physical awareness to the event in the “Dogpile” dream of 1972 where I leaped through the front door of my Cubitis home) as I saw the pterodactyl become a sparrow again, and fall to the ground just after crossing above the supposed “portal”. (The pterodactyl shadow is likely a replay of a real-life event concerning a buzzard flying over me, of which numerous dreams were influenced by.)

      The outcome:

Exactly six years later in real life (August 24, 1976)…I was in the hospital, my right thumb enlarged to nearly twice the size (exactly as in my dream) due to a completely unexpected medical condition, caused by an unexplainable series of four (and a half) cysts, all the same size except for the new one just starting, which all apparently had embryonic properties as if my body suddenly decided to grow a few other siblings from my thumb (though this followed other dreams which were also precognitive to this event). There was not the slightest indication of this until the summer vacation of 1976 when I first noticed the first one growing (with no hints or known causes beforehand), but did not get it checked out until there were four in a row, and by that time, a fifth had started closer to my wrist.

The CBS late movie that was playing the night prior to the morning of my operation was “Night of the Lepus” from 1972 - about giant rabbits of the same size orientation as the one from my dream. There is more, but the detail is minor compared to the significance of the two main synchronous links.

Though this pales in comparison to nearly endless unexplainable “mystery girl” associations and numerous other mysteries (including my present knowledge of fractals in the language and certain types of patterns), I still find this one interesting, all in all, relative to the main reason I started paying attention to my dreams when very young and why I started dream journalism in the first place - because no adult could be honest or tell me how dreams continuously “echoed” into reality, often with precise visual detail of something not seen (or even existing) until later. There is no excuse for such ignorance or denial (or replacing personal experience with incompatible religious beliefs) - as each person has a will to make a life for himself - and to validate his own understanding successfully.
