      I Suck at Flying (LD)

So last night I had my first self induced LD. I tried to fly but just flapped my arms and sort of levitated... It was cool and all but I wanted to go fast >_< no matter how much effort I put into it or how much I imagined I couldn't go fast... any help?

Try using passive control. By summoning a jetpack, using angel wings, a rocket, put on the "Ironman" boots. Anything like that. But I wouldn't worry if I were you. Flying might take a few tries to get right, I'm sure you'll do better next time It's all about making yourself believe you can. What I do is that I imagine a force pushing downwards from my feet and hands. Even recalling the feeling of being on an amusement park ride, when you're being shot straight up into the air can help. Good luck!

That's funny you mentioned a jetpack I just had a dream last night where me and someone else had a jet pack and were escaping from somewhere. I could never usually fly in my dream before that, but I could run really fast and jump. I never thought about trying that in a lucid thanks.

Hi, Saintburger! I made this flying guide a few months ago, and I recommend you read over it. Hope it helps!

Like Matte said, confidence is a huge part of it (and anything else involving dream control)! Fully believe you can fly and act like it's not that big of a deal to do so. The less you "try" to fly, the better off you're going to be. If you're still having trouble, imagine the feeling of acceleration; if you've been on roller coasters, recount the feeling you got right when they took off.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

One of the things I do when it just won't work is imagening the world is moving and I'm not...
      This works amazingly well

Remember, imagening the world moving not literaly moving the world. They are two diffrent things.

I had an LD now in the morning and i managed to swim through the air, the problem is that it went just as fast as swimming in real life

Think of the air as a medium of travel rather than some intangible boundary that is out of reach. Freda's method is excellent - swimming through the air is exactly what I did the first time I flew in my dreams.

Here are a few fun ways I've flown (in non-lucids) -

I once sat on a swing on a swingset, reached up over my head and grabbed both chains and lifted them off the hooks. By lifting hard on both chains I could pull myself up off the ground, and I controlled direction by angling or tilting the chains.

A couple weeks ago I found myself drifting along beside a highway in a seated position as if I was riding a motorcycle (chopper with ape-hangar handlebars). I was making "Brmmmmm Brummmm" noises with my mouth, and the louder I did it the higher I could get off the ground. I was also working an invisible throttle with my right hand. This one was loads of fun!

First time I can remember flying (or rather drifting) in a dream I was running down a long sloping hillside through backyards with fences, and I had to keep jumping the fences almost like hurdles. After a while I got tired of always putting my feet back down, so I just held them up in the air and flew forward over a whole bunch of fences in a row.

Jumping or falling off a high roof always makes me fly. It got to where I got fearless about it, because I guess in some way I could tell I was dreaming (without really being lucid though) and I just knew if I leaped off the roof I'd be able to fly. Heh the most fun one of these was when I was telling my friend about it and demonstrated... I fell to within about an inch of the ground and suddenly started flying around just over the ground, as if I was laying on a greased glass layer covering everything that you couldn't see or feel. It was funny - I followed exactly every contour of the ground, and it was hilly and bumpy! He started laughing and did the same thing, and we were flowing all over just an inch over the ground - a complete blast!!

This one wasn't flying or drifting really, but closely related and it was so much fun I want to tell it. I just stood on the street and held my arms out in front of me like I was holding the bar for waterskiing, and I started sliding forward pretty fast! It felt like sliding in your socks on a freshly-waxed floor or something, and I got to going really fast and could control it perfectly.

Haha cool! I've only used a broom and a rake for flying myself. Flying and telekinesis are two powers I've had alot of success with since I only had them in mind for like 6 months

I am the complete opposite! In lucids I usually start flying and get way over-excited and randomly decide to blast off into hyper speed which would be awesome but usually the dream isn't stable enough to stay together at such high speeds.
On the subject of how to fly I usually don't have to use any special objects, it just happens. I don't even have to point my fist like superman!
