Summoning is the dream control I have done the most and feel the most confidence in (which helps in future success: confidence and success form a feedback loop that just keeps strengthening both). I usually summon either small objects that can be found in the pocket, or picked up with a hand, or dream characters.
Dream characters: for some reason, the "I will see my desired DC beyond the next corner/tree/door" doesn't work for me. What always works is the "behind the back summon:" I convince myself via pretend memory that "Oh, yeah, <DC name> is standing right behind me," then I put my hand behind my back, say "Hey, DC, take my hand!", imagine hand contact, and bring my hand back around in front of me and expect the DC to be there. One of two things happens at that point: 1) the DC is there holding my hand, or 2) the DC enters the scene from "off-stage" in front of me.
Notably interesting DC summon: did "behind that bush" summon, nope didn't work, tried behind the back, and at first didn't see anything but *kept on expecting* to see the DC then the DC materialized directly in front of my eyes. At first a body-shaped solid red outline, then a rapid "painting" stage where the "person" texture spread across the shape. That was cool!
Items: Either pocket summon, "utility belt" summon (good for lightsabers!), or just "it's already in my hand" (also for lightsabers). I started with these and they were high percentage success. I always get something from my pocket, but not always my desired object.
My new favorite item summoning is "ask a DC:" once in a particularly good TOTM-fest, I walked up to a DC (Harry Potter theme, the DC was dressed as a witch) and said, "You've brought my wand, now give it to me" and the DC immediately handed me an awesome looking wand. Also earlier in that scene I asked another DC to take me to where the fortunes where, and it worked perfectly.
