Just finished The Hunger Games. I wasn't expecting it to capture all of the most important points of the book, but it seems to have done that (although having read the books, my memory of the events as they took place in the film is probably skewed.) As with all novels-to-film, there were big sections cut out, but as a stand-alone film it was actually really successful. I was on the edge of my seat at some points, even though I knew what was going to happen. A couple parts made me pretty emotional, too, again even though I knew what was coming next.

I don't recommend a huge number of films, but this is one that would be a good recommendation for those who haven't read the books, as well as those who have. 8/10

      Paper Heart

      I really enjoyed it!

Its a documentary about a girl (comedian and musician Charlyne Yi) who doesn't believe in love, so she goes around the country listening to other peoples ideas about what they think love is and their personal experiences with it. One of my favourite scenes was filmed at a schoolyard in Atlanta. Kids are hilarious...take for example their ideas about the perfect date:

Little girl: "You need to take someone to Applebees and get them hot wings"

Little boy: "Dinner and a movie. But before that you'll watch the sunset on the beach. And the restaurant you will go to is a French Riviera restaurant that only sells seafood. That's a good date."

      x}

I also liked the song Charlyne records in the movie..."Magic Perfume"

Very fun to watch. If you won't see it but are interested, you can find the entire script here.

It's Kind of a Funny Story

It was the perfect film for my mood; depressed lately, and it had just the right kind of uplifting. Obviously I can't make a too-unbiased take since it improved my mood, but that's a good point about it. Uplifting for sure by the end. In the right mood, 8/10.

      Memento. Let me just say:

This movie is simply.... beyond everything. The movie's message(deception and revenge) is mind boggling. I can relate the movie to awareness/lucidity.I'd give it 9001/10

The Sky Crawlers - by Mamoru Oshii

Kannami (left): I can't drink anymore.
Kusanagi (right): Then I will drink yours.

A story about child fighter pilots used as expendable weapons in an endless war of unexplained origins...unable to grow up in a world where they might die tomorrow, or live a life full of memories that become indistinguishable over time.

Very clean and beautiful animation...slow-moving but engaging plot...subtle "hazy dream-like" quality...questions about the purpose of both war and peace...

Overall I enjoyed it very much.

Just got done watching Hunger Games. I don't know why, but for some reason I found the movie rather disturbing. Now, I can't remember seeing a movie that left me feeling kinda unsettled like that. Maybe I'm just a big baby.

The plot is just too grotesque, IMHO.

Now, I have never read the books, but it's not really a book-movie thing that's the problem. I just found the plot unsettling.

Just watched Black Sabbath (1963). It was a bit weird/cool/funny. I wouldn't really recommend it unless you were interested in seeing what the band Black Sabbath was named after, it was kind of cool in that context.

Watched The Watch and Five Year Engagement. They were both really good. Five Year Engagement is part romantic comedy but it was produced by Judd Apatow and it's honestly really funny. Plus Emily Blunt makes it worth it. She is so hot. The Watch is also pretty funny, though the characters and the story both seem a little recycled there's plenty of worthwhile scenes.

RESIDENT EVIL RETRIBUTION! VERY GOOD BECAUSE I SEEN IT IN 3D! BUT STILL GOOD WITHOUT 3D!
This is the sequel part when the story all comes together and things will make more sense from every sequel they did. Story unfolds, but that Wesker is tricky and i don't trust him!

Last movie I watched was The Hunger Games. I read all the books a while back so I was looking forward to the movie. Loved it actually. I think I'd have been disturbed (like SpaceCowboyDave above) by it as well, but since I already knew the plot, it was already familiar. Also I rather like the dystopian stories so it was a pleasant enough movie to watch. I liked that the film rather closely followed the story in the first book. 8/10

Promotheus - Quite good for its action and effects, but it lacked coherency imo.

Just got around to watching The Darkest Hour, a sci-fi end of the world type of film. Eh, was not bad, watchable when you have nothing better to do.

COSMOPOLIS- It was an OK movie, it's more of a intellectual movie, and a "what if" plot. Movie plot thickens starting halfway through movie.
THE POSSESSION- Similar plot to "The exorcist." Nothing new to expect here.

Almost watched it again last night as well, it was on the local TV. I love Bruce Willis.

Saw two movies recently, Prometheus and Total Recall. Both were good in their genres. Sort of brainless fun. If I were a critic, I'd tear the movies apart, but as a viewer, I just enjoyed them.

Watched Safe House, a 1998 thriller. Wasn't bad, I thought it would be worse than it was. Of course if there was anyone but Patrick Stewart staring it would have sucked.
