Star Trek Into Darkness - second movie of the reboot series, it's from last year.
I really enjoyed it, even while I first didn't want to watch it. I wanted something "serious" instead, but husband had it downloaded and convinced me. Full of stereotypes of course, but hey - it's Star Trek - I find they are allowed that, they do it well!
The new Kahn is great - but best is Scotty - this lovely accent!! I only saw the stuff in German up to now - that's a shame, needs to be in original! The cast is fantastic in general. And a sweet touch was that they had a Tribble built into it as well! Pretty typical that I mention this - two mini-scenes only, but I had to watch the respective old episode with them afterwards. Niice squeaking fluffy things, them.

      There they are:

2 Days ago (or yesterday) I watched Rounders again, it's a pretty solid movie about poker and friendship, and obviously taking risks. There is a little bit of romance too for which I'm glad because the girl is incredibly sweet

I watched Paycheck yesterday, also a really solid movie. There is romance and action, little bit of science fiction. An engineer has an interesting job: he works at a certain product for a couple of weeks, during his job he has to stay in a room and is not allowed any contact with the outside world. When he gets out his memory of the job is removed and he gets a giant paycheck (500.000dollars). One day someone offers him a 3 year job (no contact with the outside, memory wipe after the job is finished) and a paycheck of tens of millions of dollars. After three years some crazy things happen and he has to figure out what is happening because his memory of the last 3 years is wiped. Second time I watched the movie and I would watch it again with company.

About an hour ago I finished watching It Could Happen To You, the (guy who usually plays the) psycho villain Nicholas Cage is starring in a sweet, "pink fluffy styled", romantic movie, he is a good guy in it and totally normal. The movie is really really predictable and simple but it's just a sweet movie, it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside If you have nice girlfriend you should totally watch it together xD

I also watched 3/4 of Fight Club and Nick Of Time, both awesome movies but I got bored somehow..

I don't even know why I allow myself to watch Do The Right Thing anymore.
It makes me so sick to watch now that I think I might have to put it in the vault for a while.

Little Buddha: though i miss the first 30mins of it. good movie, i really liked the part where Siddhartha came to the realization that he too will get old, suffer, and die. and that there was no escaping death, it was a complete turning point in his life.

Hostel: love that movie. i've always been a horror movie fanatic.

Last night I walked into We Were Soldiers...
And it's about the first major battle the US fought against the North Vietnamese, on November 14th, 1965. Let me first just say that war movies are so far from enjoyable to me normally...

But immediately my grandmother showed me of a photo of the film that her genius brother captured due to the keen eye of his own son. The photo is of the final scene of the film, where Mel Gibson's face is reflected upon a very specific panel of the Vietnam War Memorial, containing the names of those lost in the battle the film is centered on (at la Drang).

And wouldn't you know it, a man with my grandmother's family name is right in that panel! Her brother researched it and apparently the man isn't related to us, but I find it interesting nonetheless.

The film itself was okay, but I had a hard time watching the battle scene at the end...the usual problem I have with movies about war, especially ones that are based on true stories.

That kind of stuff gives me nightmares.

Interesting thing about the battle too, both sides claimed victory. And of course the film does not include the surprise attack that occurred on November 17th, "the most successful ambush against U.S. forces during the course of the entire war."

Netflix recommended "Snowpiercer" and I watched it without reading anything about it.

It was like getting lost in the weird section of YouTube
Very dystopian, illogical, bloody, downright silly, but thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless.
It's not a movie I'd normally watch and I'm glad I stumbled across it.
Even though I'm still asking myself what the heck did I just watch

InterStellar...I think it's the first movie I've seen that made me want to go watch it again. It has LOADS of science in it, but if you possess basic knowledge of physics you can follow it without many problems, and end up fascinated by the more complex topics discussed and their implications for our future (yes, because while the movie might be about science-fiction, it dwells in important questions for humanity).

Oh, and the visual effects and sound make it almost a crime not to watch it on the cinema, it's an amazing piece of work for all science lovers and beyond 0.0

PS: their representation of a black hole was designed based on the last decade research, making it the best representation to have ever been presented in a movie, I heard they are even making a scientific paper about it. The result is mindblowing (especially in a big screen).

This may not technically count as a movie, but yesterday I rewatched a legendary Swedish thriller series from 1967 called "Kullamannen" ("kulle" is a small hill, and "mannen" is "the man", so it's pretty much "The man of the hills").
It is actually a really cool thriller with lots of likeable characters, and it is surprisingly dark and serious for being intended for young viewers - it feels a lot like something Stephen King or Alfred Hitchkock could have written.
A lot of you probably don't understand Swedish, but the opening scene alone very clearly demonstrates the atmosphere of the whole series (I like how several of the mountaintops resemble human faces).
      Shivers (almost) guaranteed.

      Interstellar.

It's one of my favorite movies now. It is visually beautiful, full of suspense and has incredible music (I don't think you can go wrong with Hans Zimmer).

Spoiler for Important plot mechanic in the film:

      Edge of Tomorrow.

Groundhog Day à la action movie. I fucking loved it. I wish "Groundhog-like" was a genre because there seems to be so much that could be done with the idea of being stuck in the same day.

The Hobbit 3: Battle of the Five Armies

I went to the first showing on Tuesday and it was pretty good. I'd say it's not the best Hobbit just because it's mostly fighting. Hope that's not a spoiler(which it shouldn't be, considering the title). But I really enjoyed it.

In a spoiler free context (because I never remember the tags), I'm a big fan of the books: does the third book still follow the weird (I find it weird because it wasn't present at all in the LOTR trilogy movies) trend of making certain things different from the books? Because the trailer showing yet again Olórin and the last lady of the Noldor suggests so. I already skipped the 2nd movie because of that, but if you tell me this one follows the book in the major events, I'll watch it.

PS: gief Silmarillion movie...or not, considering how hard it would be to tackle the material and put it into a coherent narrative 0o

I watched first the American version of the TV series House of Cards and then the British one, both are great, but the latter was even more so in comparison.

House of Cards (UK TV series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The antihero of House of Cards is Francis Urquhart, a fictional Chief Whip of the Conservative Party, played by Ian Richardson. The plot follows his amoral and manipulative scheme to become leader of the governing party and, thus, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

House of Cards was said to draw from Shakespeare's Macbeth and Richard III, both of which feature main characters who are corrupted by power and ambition. Richardson had a Shakespearean background, and said he based his characterization of Urquhart on Shakespeare's portrayal of Richard III. Urquhart frequently talks through the camera to the audience, breaking the fourth wall using the aside.

If TV series count, I watched the cartoon miniseries, Over the Garden Wall, recently and am re-watching it now. It's only 10 episodes long and each episode is 10 minutes.
It's absolutely amazing and it gives me vibes from all kinds of things all over the place. A lot of Alice in Wonderland, but strangely the overwhelming feeling I got was the dread, hopelessness and insanity from Dark Souls.

There's characters with really off-putting designs and behavior; specifically there are a lot of characters that are obsessed with doing one thing over and over out of some insane obligation. That's pretty much the premise of Dark Souls - Keep gathering souls, keep the flame lit, or everything goes Hollow. It's so eerie to me how striking the resemblance between the settings are. It gets even crazier considering the next Souls game used to be called Project Beast, and has a gothic artstyle. So does Over the Garden Wall, and the antagonist is known as The Beast. That's just my ramblings on this weird similarity between two otherwise completely different things that I love - other than that, I really recommend watching it, it's super good.

Interstellar was most recent for me, too. I thought it was spectacular. 100% agreed. I have several of Hans Zimmer's score's saved on my computer, love them. They are great soundtracks for anything you might be doing... they make a trip to the refrigerator or restroom feel a part of an epic tale.

Watched 2 dreaming/lucid dreaming movies recently - "Waking" and "The Science of Sleep". Thought they both portrayed the experiences of a dreamer and the dreamworld very well, especially the latter, as well as maintaining my interest throughout. I'm currently on the hunt for more dreaming related movies I haven't yet watched

I watched The Interview last night, and it was funnier than I expected. The performances were all solid and overall it was a good, not great comedy, if you like the whole dick-and-poop-jokes shtick.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

I didn't have a very high expectation, but it surprised me. It was actually a good movie.
