If anyone has any corrections to make to what I'm saying, please do - but I'm going to go out and say that I'm thinking awareness can really be on a scale, from in dream----->completely lucid. I've been thinking over my own experiences, and the most aware I have been was when I was the most shocked to be dreaming. The realisation was enough to cause a feeling of fear at how creepy it was that physics was not as per usual, and the thrill of RCing without expecting the result that I got threw me into a state of absolute lucidity. Conversely, dreams in which I've RCd because I've suspected the truth have resulted in a much lest shocking rise to lucidity, and a feeling of "yeah, I knew that was coming and I completely accept that without any feelings either way". In a way, this didn't jolt me from the dream in the way the first occurrence did, and I felt consequently much less aware and remembered less when I woke up.
My conclusion would then be that yes, this was without a doubt a lucid dream that you had - but your expectation to have one and complete acceptance of it did not cause you to reach a heightened awareness beyond the fact that you now understood that you were dreaming. If you make it a new goal to become more aware - to try some mental gymnastics as well as just RCs, I think we will both find the solution to our problems.
