Sometimes we just barely miss becoming lucid.

We all have those moments where we wake up and realize we could have had a lucid, but we were too preoccupied with the flying elephants to care. Let's all have story time.

-Upon noticing aformentioned elephants, ask myself if I'm dreaming. Plug nose and breath in while looking through mirror. Hole in the center of my nose opens up, so I'm not suprised that I can breathe by plugging my nose.

I once stopped in a store in a dream, said that it was a dream and told myself that after I finished buying this drink I should check by flying. When I got back outside, I had already forgotten...

I've once had non-lucid dream in which i was using some kind of technology to visit someone's dream to check competition tasks/points, i knew i was in dream but i didn't know that i was the one who was dreaming and was not aware about it. Go figure.

I once had a non lucid where I kept asking my parents if I was dreaming after them making me go straight through a wall, and they just constantly told me how I wasn't so I believed it and then my dad caught a wave in the ocean with our car

I know a lot of people wake up on their first lucid dreams. For some reason, I didn't, because I stayed calm.. And IDK how I did.. Because it was the best dream I had!

The most recent time this happened to me, I was in line buying something. When I got to the front of the line there was a man standing behind a window, and after I made my purchase he asked, "would you like a body bag with that?" I just said no thanks and was on my way, but someone in line stopped me. He said something along the lines of "Now, wasn't there something weird about that? That wasn't normal was that?" I knew he was right, something was off, but I disregarded it.

I just joined the forum yesterday and thought this excerpt from my introductory post might be relevant to the topic here regarding near lucidity..

Interestingly, in the past week I have had two experiences which might be called "near lucid" dreams in which I questioned whether or not I was dreaming in the dream, but failed to achieve full lucidity.

The first happened near the end of a lengthy non-lucid dream. During the dream, I suspected I might be dreaming and even went so far as to walk up behind my wife, tap her on the shoulder and ask her "am I dreaming or is this real?" She replied "You're not dreaming". I believed her and continued in a non-lucid state - despite the fact her hair was an entirely different color than she has in real life.

The second experience happened last night. I have been frequently performing reality checks throughout the waking day in hopes I would do so during a dream and hence achieve lucidity. In the past, this has worked well for me. My typical reality check is to look closely at my hands and poke each palm with the opposing index finger, then pinch my nose to see if I can still breathe through it. If my hands appear deformed, or if I can poke a finger entirely through my palm, I know I'm dreaming. Likewise, if I can breathe through my nose with it pinched shut, I know I'm dreaming. Last night, I had an apparent false awakening. I looked at my hands and they appeared normal. I could not poke a finger through my palms, but when I attempted to do so my hands deformed. This SHOULD have been a tip off that I was dreaming, but I failed to recognize it. I forgot to do the nose pinch check, but did decide to rub my hands together to see if it generated friction. It did, so I assumed I was not dreaming and went back to sleep. It was only when I woke up for real this morning right at dawn, that it occurred to me that I had performed the above mentioned reality checks in full daylight (during the middle of the night!)

Obviously I need to do some more work on reality check recognition!

I once saw a sign reading LUCID. Didn't help, though.

I do the dumbest things. For example: I'm running away from some people who want to kill me. I think "hey, I've learnt how to fly in my dreams and this is a dream! If I fly, they'll never catch me!"

...and yet, I don't take control of the dream at all. Despite acknowledging that I'm dreaming, I don't seem aware of the fact, and I continue to worry about the things that are happening in the dream (people trying to kill me).

A couple nights ago I damaged a car in a dream, and was really upset as I had an accident in RL a couple months ago. I then realized on some level that I was dreaming and told a DC how glad I was this was a dream so I didnt need to worry about the accident. But never really went lucid.

I'm suprised this is getting this much love
Last night: I am an expert at dream control, for everything besides scene changing. After my brother killed me, I resurrected myself and began to do lots of stuff like fly, turn invisible, ect. Thought. "it sure is a good thing I'm dreaming, or I'd be dead." didnt get lucid.

I was in a house upstairs and broke my phone, in the dream it was far more critical to me than in the waking world. In a panic, I thought this has got to be a dream, I did the nose plug and it failed me (it almost never fails me). Still in a panic I'm now thinking no this has really got to be a dream, I made a couple more attempts at reality checks, all failing. I eventually accepted reluctantly that it wasn't a dream. Would have been a good lucid; it was a crystal clear dream, I actually wonder if that could have been the problem.

The worst ones I've had recently is where I'm in a dream messing around pretending to be in a Lucid Dream, then wake up and realize I was dreaming after all. The latest example happened a couple days ago. I was near a cliff with beautiful scenery. I decided to pretend that I was dreaming. I started shouting "woo hoo this is a dream!" As I was shouting "This is a dream" I proceeded to run towards the edge of the cliff as if I was going to dive off head first. But once I got close to the edge, I stopped because I didn't really believe I was dreaming. I woke up going.

Anyway, I never let moments like that discourage me. Instead, I take it as encouragement.

Just had another one of those moments. I couldn't see what I was looking for, everything was blurry. My reaction: "Man, if this is a dream, I'm going to be so pissed off. Okay. Relax. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and focus." and then I continued trying to see what I couldn't see instead of doing a reality check. DUMB!

I Once had a dream, which was very lucid although i could not control it, I have full memory of it, I was a fighter pilot in the dream(My childhood fantasy) and even though I could somewhat realize that I was dreaming, I did not notice the fact that I was not actually a pilot(it sounds strange, I know), so I am coming crashing down along with the plane, and just as I am about to eject, I woke up with a lot of cold sweat.

I thought I woke up again but I did an RC and I was in a dream. I noticed it was night and didn't feel like night. I forgot it was a dream so when I noticed it was night I was just like "screw it" and went on the bed. I could've just changed it to day or went to another dream!

Two nights ago i had a dream where i was walking down a coastal road, a known area. And i lacklusterly did a RC which was to try earth bending, but i kicked the ground like i was kicking a discared soda and didnt put any effort into it. Funny thing is as i was walking my clothes were morphing and at one point i was walking down the road naked.

Today I had a dream where a dream character gave me many blatant hints that I was dreaming and could become lucid if I wanted to. Yet I missed every opportunity to catch on.

You didn't share the best part, Silent Dream

I didn't catch on that I was dreaming even though A- I was a different person, and B- my dream was about lucid dreaming.

I guess the mind really doesn't like to work very hard when asleep

There was this one time where I was talking with one of my friends from school while walking down the school corridor and at the other end of the corridor on a wall was a poster that was quite literally bright red and had blue writing on it saying "GO LUCID NOW!". I pointed it out to my friend and laughed at such a funny coincidence; I had wanted to become lucid and here was a poster telling me to go lucid!

I just laughed it off and nearly headbutted a wall when I woke up for being so stupid. I've never had a more obvious dream sign.

I remember having two this type of dreams.

First one : I was dreaming of something , i had little problem. In dream i said , lets just wait , maybe this is just a dream ... *headbang in the morning*

Second one: This one happened this week. Basically i got killed 4 times by a big fat monster with a big wooden bat, and was respawned 4 times, and still didn't realize .
I'm not angry about these but it's just stupid how easy it's to miss the dreams.

Ah, gotta love when you do reality checks in dreams and your mind just ignores them

I've had a dream where I did nothing but walk around and do my RC asking myself if I was dreaming, the RC kept failing but for some reason my mind didn't connect that with being in a dream. Totally pouted like a baby when I woke up and realized what happened.
