As fas as I'm concerned it's just for your general awareness because all you do is passivly observing your surroundings and paying attention to what's going on - of course this is absolutely great when trying to tell apart your dream world and your waking world, but doesn't really improve your self-awareness (which basically comes down to being aware of your existence and the effects that it has and the things that affect it). You can still modify ADA to suit your needs if you wish!
Personally I practice ADA as much as possible, but I still do MILD (before I go to sleep), the reverse RCs for self-awareness and SAT.... just combine your favourite techniques and see what works best for you, but give it some time and don't get frustrated if you don't see any success after a few days. Be patient.
