@FryingMan What you say is correct but not completely. For example when visualizing you get better and better at it while doing it. Athletes rely on repair, they destroy cells or make them tired and while repairing the body makes it come back stronger than it was before, that's also a delay. I should come up with more examples to prove that LDing can have immediate improvement observation and that other things can have delays, but I tell you that all skills are basically the same at a deeper level.

About the 20 hours thing: Maybe he meant that if you spend 20 hours at doing something, you will at least know how to practice the skill. I didn't watch the video btw

20 hours is supposed to be the time that it stops being work and starts being something that you can just chill out and do. This is why I say that LDing is definitely an exception.

Or it only counts time lucid.

I think that the misinformation and the fact that we still dont have a way that works for everyone (like basketball fundamentals) makes it still a new field.

Yeah I agree -- it's not like sports. The body is a predictable machine: you stimulate it in some way, it responds (grows, etc.). Yes there's a delay, but it's quite standard. Also with non-dreaming, you can have a coach who can observe your direct behavior and correct. With dreaming you can get advice, that's true, but nobody can tell you exactly why you're not getting into the dream in a WILD, for example.

But yes there are analogies. Especially self-correction. Since self-correction is the only possible coaching you can get, it's even more critical in dreaming. And getting over the emotional barriers to dedicating yourself.

Also for dreaming you're not just dedicating yourself for 20 hours. To have a real hope of becoming good at dreaming you need a serious investment of time, like a year.

Maybe there will never be a concrete way of practicing because an enormous part of LDing has to do with mindset. I think the most reliable thing is just like with any other skill: consistency, patience and some passion to keep your imagination up. Because if you are patient and consistent you will eventually find something that works for you, passion is just the engine behind everything.

To be honest, why shouldn't you? Sure it takes a bit of work, but doing whatever you want with no consequences sure beats just laying there.

I have always loved the strange feeling of being able to move around in a lucid dream fully aware, while at the same time realizing that you are actually sleeping.
It is a weird contrast, and for some reason it reminds me of those nights during childhood when you were permitted by your parents to stay up later than usual - that feeling when you could extend your waking life time.
