Thread: Embarrassing moments...

I was in class in high school. It was study hall, and my teacher was really chill. So I laid across two chairs on my back and took a nap. Although I don't normally have dreams during short naps like that, I apparently did have one that caused me to wake up with... *ahem*... quite a log. Luckily, I don't think anyone was really looking, so disaster averted.

Oh, and once on a youth retreat, I had a dream where this girl that I was good friends with fell into a lava pit. I cried out her name as she was falling, but as I did that I woke up. Apparently, I shouted her name in real life, so half the guys in my room woke up...

I was trying an Everyman polyphasic sleep schedule for a while, and one day I went with a friend to a recital. It was at 11am in the morning, and it was pretty full in the small hall, so my friend was beside me and someone was sitting in front of me too. With my luck, I think it was a girl lol. Anyway, I kept drifting off into hypnogogia/light dreams, and waking back up. I just couldn't keep myself awake . So then I feel asleep, and "jolted" awake, kicking the seat in front of me. Just like when doctors test the reflex in your leg, it was involuntary and quick. The person turned around to look at me, and my friend started laughing lol. I think stuff like that happens when your body isn't balanced as it falls asleep, so you jerk back awake.

That's called a myoclonic jerk, or since it is so common to experience when falling asleep, when falling asleep it is also known as a hypnic jerk. You experience falling in someway in a half-sleep/half-dream state and your body reacts with a quick jerk. Apparently it's also a reaction to the sudden respiratory depression and muscle relaxation exhibited when you are falling asleep and as a result the mind thinks you are "dying" and sends your central nervous system a jolt, kind of like getting a natural defibrillator shock.

Sorry for semi-offtopic post, but I can't think of any embarrassing times waking up from dreams. :\

I've experienced that several times, it feels like an electric current running through your whole body.

Sometimes I wake up weeping because something sad happened i my dream and people think I was crying for something in waking life and I have to explain that I had a sad dream that makes no sense in real life.
One dream I was running from super fast zombies and I was trying to go into a cave and I heard noise coming closer and closer so I turned around and there was a zombie straight up in my face and I screamed my sisters name in waking life and woke myself up, I'm not sure if anyone heard me though.
I have catathrenia so sometimes I wake myself up from making groaning sounds and it's worse when other people hear it, so embarrassing.
I wet my bed until about 16 years old, and one dream I had to go to the bathroom really bad and I finally found a toilet in my dream and went piss and then I woke up a few seconds later warm as hell and realized I actually went pee in waking life also.
I don't if this counts but apparently last night I sent my mom a picture text at 6 in the morning in my sleep because I went to sleep around 3 in the morning. Her phone couldn't download the picture text either, I wanted to see what the hell I could've texted in my sleep, I think I should hide my cell phone before I go to bed, because if this becomes a new thing I do in my sleep who knows what i'd be texting to my contacts, this is worse than my ordering chinese food in my sleep :O

Ha ha, yeah, I used to wet my bed until I was about 14 or 15. Even now, when I pee in a dream, after waking up I'm scared to check and see if I wet myself...

Same here lol, and of course I have so many bathroom dreams for some reason xD

I once was asking for money in a dream after falling asleep in the middle of the day, turns out I was really speaking that stuff out and had a large crowd around me... thankfully the crowd was only of family members.

Mine isn't as embarrassing as some of these others, but I thought it was somewhat amusing.

My friends and I were staying at my roommate's house because we were going to the Ren fair the next day, so I shared a bed with one of my friends that night. I dreamed I was reaching for a book--- but when my hand closed around the spine, it felt wrong. It felt like flesh. I woke up and realized that instead of a book, I was grasping my friend's arm. I instantly jerked away and rolled over. She was very confused until I explained the next morning.

I'd probably be more happy than embarrassed, I wonder what that says about me xD

I find it is often accompanied by an uncomfortable noise that has texture to it. A buzzing, I'd call it.

For me a three way tie for most embarassing (dream-related) would be between:

The time I sat up in bed and gave the fingers (both hands) + full obscenities to all the girls at my besties sleepover, years ago now during a dream i have since forgotten...

The time I woke up shouting that there were spiders falling from the ceiling and that the others weren't helping. This incident reminds me of other night terrors where I've woken crying or worse, feeling sometimes like I can't breathe even...

Any of the times ive gotten up out of bed so suddenly that even my legs dont work.

This is off-topic but: Wow, I just realized this is relevant to me because I've been having lots of bathroom dreams lately. I'll go to pee, then thankfully I'll wake up and actually go to the bathroom lol. Then during the day I'll wonder if I'll actually pee myself in my bed .

Something I've noticed is when I am dreaming and I find a toilet and it's perfect and the door shuts and the toilet is clean, then I'll use it in my dream and end up peeing in waking life. But most of my bathroom dreams now are focused on how the bathroom is like a huge unorganized maze of different stalls, and some are too filthy so I won't use them and some stall doors are too short, or some doors don't shut properly. So I end up just leaving the bathroom and I won't pee the bed in waking life. I wonder if it's my subconscious's way of preventing me from wetting the bed. Neo Neo, do you find this happens to you as well?

In my lucid dream two nights ago I thought/was shown that I peed myself a little but when I woke up I hadn't. Thanks for looking out for me, subconscious brain because I sure know my conscious brain wanted me to suffer.
