It is the essence of you and your mind attempting to comprehend the world. So in a sense, lucidity could be a possible way to create a new truth. A new truth in which we are in control of this truth, everything that is told to us is real. Everything we experience in dreams is a truth. It is a way for us to let go of one singular reality, one single truth. Lucidity is a way to bring in new light, and shed new thoughts upon the world, giving us a place to experiment with our lives, or escape the current reality we all so fondly know of.
Many people on earth don't experience the consciousness that is given to one that becomes lucid during a dream in waking life. One who admits to knowing nothing is open to experience all things in existence. We're only limited to our own self development in parallel with self awareness.

For example, in one dream I wake in my bedroom and realize it's a dream. My significant other DC tries to get me to go back to sleep. I try to slip away without bringing up lucidity, but she says if I think it's a lucid dream then I must have messed up reality checks and that it's not a dream. Then adds that if I must go then be it and that she was going back to sleep. It was a gentle and comforting way the dream was trying to get me to give up my lucidity. There was no hostility or aggressiveness in it, it was almost passive.
I had a similar experience recently. I tried the VILD and found myself in an abandoned room. I got out of her and turned to the left along the corridor and found myself in a basement (I hate the dark narrow spaces, perhaps because of my claustrophobia). I went back as I repeated myself it was just an illusion. I went to a lift, but as always he did not work properly. The floors were in the following order: 1,1,1,2,2,2,3,3,3, the door opened and I found myself in a huge room. There were two girls in the room, I headed to the closest.

It was a beautiful girl with long blond hair. I asked her what you are, she said to me quite directly: I'm a virgin!
I'll call you Daisy then, have you got a phone or a tablet with the Internet (I immediately switched to the task I had). She handed me her phone and asked me what I needed it for. I replied that I just want to check something on the internet. The other girl had a long black hair and both of them had a huge rack! I went into the google and started looking for what I care, but obviously my focus was not enough. Only half of the letters I wrote were coming out. So I tried to focus more strongly and with each try I was approaching the goal. But the girls did not like it somehow, so they tried to distract me.

Lili(black hair) -We're both virgins come on, don't be shy!
me: I am focusing here, so leave me alone.
Daisy - whispered in my ear, let's make some ecchi stuff
me: (fast heart beating) focusing, focusing
Lili - mhm you are boring....
      me: I know.... focusing
      Daisy: grab my butt
      me: whaaat......
Lili: Lets have some fun (she strip all her clothes in one move)
me: Oppaiiiiii (had a huge nosebleed attack and wake up)

p.s. They try to rape me

Cool topic. I got into dream recall in 2012 due to a night terror. I didn't really get into LD until about 6 months ago but I always dabbled. I basically like the LD experience and wanted to go further into it.

I try not to think of dream figures and the dream itself as enemies but instead as allies or friends. I think one of my goals with LDing and dream practices in general is to develop a healthy relationship with my dreams and subconscious mind.

I don't know if I will be able to read every post in the thread but I wish I could! It seems like a great discussion so thanks OP.

      Lightbulb

I don't wanted to start new thread, I am just going to post here.
After I read some of the basic stuff about lucid dreaming from the sticky some of you created(I read a lot and a lot about induction methods, dream control, true lucidity) and compared them with my own experience. I reached some profound thoughts and wanted to share them with you.

These are the prime laws of lucid dreaming:

Everything is One and One is everything.

Everything is Here and Here is everything.

Everyone is Me and I am everyone.

Don't ask me for explanation, you must reach it yourself.

You could call them the laws of absolute reality too, not just lucid dreaming. You've stumbled into a great truth, which is fantastic to see!

Definitely a powerful realization for lucid dreaming. But it's powerful for much more than that, just keep that in mind. If you don't see it yet, you will.

      But yeah, nice one.

      Hahaha

I am not sure are you praising me or being just sarcastic. Anyway these laws are only usable in our personal lucid world. I wanted just to correct you, so that other people won't misunderstand them. If one understand them correctly, they can lead to perfect lucidity!

I am not answering a particular question here, but I will comment about the original poster message + comments in general.

For me, lucid dreaming is not about "why" I want to have lucid dreams. All my life I had lucid dreams. In fact, only 2 years ago I discovered most people don't have lucid dreams frequently (or that many actually don't even believe lucid dreams are a real thing).
About reality checks... they don't work for me. Either I know I am dreaming, and may or may not have control over the dream, either I don't know I am dreaming, and any kind of reality check will work exactly as it would in wake-life. I can see my own reflex in mirrors, I will not pass through objects, gravity will work exactly as I expect etc. I can do the opposite, though, and when I am having a lucid dream I can do reality checks that will either work or fail (that depends on both the kind of dream and my desire... I usually want dreams to have unexpected things happening to me).

Yet, one important thing, is that I like dreams, as strange and as unexpected they might be, to keep reality traits to the point that anything I might be able to learn in a dream, to be applicable in real life.
This particular case didn't happen to me, but I heard a story of a boy that was trying to learn how to use the bike without the extra wheels (those for kids). After he was feeling almost confident, he kept having dreams where he would ride his bike without support, and fell. Yet, the day he was able to ride it correctly in a dream, he felt confident enough to try it for real, and he was able to ride it without issues.

To me, similar (but not so obvious) things happened. Some of them helped me even avoid some car accidents as I had been "training" for those situation in dreams. Yet, even if it is fun to fly and similar... simply flying without seeing any connection to an actual equipment that helps me fly will not be beneficial and, on the contrary, can potentially make things harder to do for real if I simply want to "fly" in real life the same way I do in dreams.

So, to me dreams are a very interesting kind of game and simulation. The better they simulate real life things for me, the more I can learn/practice my skills while sleeping.
Also, when trying to learn things that I considered hard in the past, it was common to get the answer in dreams, even if somebody else in a dream gave me the answer and the explanation. Somehow my subconscious had found the answer.
