Telling other people you know about your interest in lucid dreaming

So I'm asking if you make your interest public, and share it will friends or family. People on Dream Views don't count.

I really don't tell anybody that I am into lucid dreaming or share my experiences. It seems like a fairly personal thing. This is partially because people have a hard time understanding or look down upon it.

      I voted Other.
YES, I tell others about my interest but ONLY if they're interested. It could be family, friends, random strangers lol but I'm not a zealot about it

I've told close friends about it, but other than that, I rarely bring it up.

There is pretty much already a thread about this. But no, I only bring it up with friends that I know.. that know about it.

Otherwise, other people/friends thinki it's weird.

I told a best friend, a person I know who sat with me on the bus, my learning adviser (which is basically a teacher that keeps track of your progress, they are anal that way) and my family.

My Dad is also a lucid dreamer, so I talk about it a lot with him. My Mom knows, but doesn't care, about LDing. Apart from my parents and one friend I don't see anymore, nobody knows.

      No sharing for me

Outside of here I don't tell people about my lucid dreaming, I have actually kept my dream journals in a cryptic manner so that others would not be able to read them even if they tried. Dreams are very personal for me and I only talk about them here because I get advice from people who I will not meet in the waking world.

My girlfriend knows I attempt to lucid dream, but she doesn't know why. I have more than passing fascination in dreaming and hope that I can achieve my goals with the help of the community here, not the community i see IRL.

      I voted other.

I don't just tell random people about my liking of dreams...My family knows, and so do my friends. So do SOME of the people I talk with daily. I don't just tell random people.
If you see a strange typo in my post, blame my iPad for that.

Some friends and some family, just people who I know will be interested on the subject. By the way, some of them started to have lucid dreams before I told them about it.
It's annoying to speak about it with people who don't believe it is posible (I did it once).

I definitely already talked about this in another post, but the poll is an interesting idea so I'll say it here too:

I tell most of my friends about lucid dreaming, usually because something will come up in conversation that makes me think about something lucid dream related and before I know it, I'm using terms like DILD and WILD and they're looking at me like I'm on drugs

What I've found is that your approach makes all the difference, so even though I used to tell no one, with time I've gradually told more and more people, and I expect that trend will continue, though I don't just obsess about dreams all day long

But of course! They look interested sometimes, but silly college won't let them care about it <.<

Most of my friends don't care. They think its stupid. Others are resolute that they can't do it.

My mom says she doesn't want to, sees no point. My brother thinks its dangerous

I don't constantly go on about LDing all the time, but if it happens to come up in coversation then I'll be quite happy to talk about it.

For me it's really case dependent. Most of my friends that I have told have at least shown a passing interest. I've only ever had one person that I discussed it with tell me it was a bunch of crap. As far as strangers go, I'll only bring it up if the conversation is on the topic of dreaming or some closely related subject and I think the person may be interested. Other than that I don't go around proclaiming to be a lucid dreamer. For instance, if someone were to ask me about my hobbies I'd probably not mention lucid dreaming.

There is--though I do not know how there is or why there is--a sense of infinite peace and protection in the glittering hosts of heaven. There it must be, I think, in the vast and eternal laws of matter, and not in the daily cares and sins and troubles of men, that whatever is more than animal within us must find its solace and its hope. I hope, or I could not live.

Well for me... I really don't intend to tell people I'm into Lucid Dreaming. I would like to keep it to my self. So I voted Other. Because if I told them I'm into something like this. They would probably think I need help or they will probably think I'm practicing some evil magik or something. So for me, I really don't know what to do since sometimes I ran into people who are really religious. The only time if I will tell someone that I'm into Lucid Dreaming is if they are into Lucid Dreaming them selves. If I tell my friends from School for example. They will probably think I'm a freak. Though there might be some plenty of Lucid Dreamers in College. And I'm 18 so I can do anything I want. WOOHOO!

I voted "No" because I have tried to tell friends and family members before but they just showed no interest in it. So i've just stopped trying. In a way, it's nice to stand out from the crowd with your own interests.

So you put codes in your dream journal. How does that work for you? I also am afraid someone will read my dream journal. A lot of times I leave out details that could be embarrassing.

Yeah I understand what you mean. If you are talking to someone who is not familiar with lucid dreaming and you say something like "I tried wild and went into SP and fell into a dream", they'll think you're talking about drugs.

In my poll I didn't mean if you obsess on dreams all day long. That's just not healthy, but if you talk about it now and then casually.

People ask, why do you randomly plug your nose. I always tell them because I don't care what people think, and I've turned several people on to lucid dreaming.

I tell people when it comes up in conversation. Most of my friends and family know I'm into it, and frequently ask me dream related questions.

      Lol, same.

I talk about lucid dreaming occasionally with my friends. One of them is a natural lucid dreamer, so he knows what I'm talking about. All the others are just kind of, "Yeah. Great. That's cool." They either don't believe in it or don't really care.
