The effort itself can create stress you don't need.

The best thing you can do is relax and get some rest. Do read the book and do make the efforts while you are awake to get the concept of lucid dreaming stuck in your mind.

When it comes time to sleep...relax. The constant thought of "Will I have a lucid dream tonight?" can cause a person to fail from all the stress the effort creates.

Let sleep happen. Becuase your waking mind spends so much time thinking about lucid dreaming there is a good chance the idea will carry over into your dreams. That "Ah-Ha!" moment will be all the more amazing when you don't spend time worrying and wondering when or if it will happen.
