1) More is better if you can get back to sleep. Try 6 at first. |
4.5 hours works, but the later in the sleep cycle, the better, as long as you can still sleep. |

I don't know, I just imagine that people start counting, they get bored, stop counting, then fall asleep. And since they had spent all that time setting their intention, by counting but not because of the counting per se, they get lucid. I see it as more of an indirect, intention-setting technique. You could just as easily sing dixie and have it work if someone told you that singing dixie made you WILD. |
That is the exact point, even if you do your WILD different. I mean, yes, you could sing 'Dixie' and have the exact same effect. It is supposed to be repetitive and boring. It is NOT supposed to engage the mind. It has little to do with intention. It is supposed to simply be there droning in the background as proof your mind still has some awareness. Not much, just enough to stay partly aware. If you realize you have stopped "singing Dixie/counting" you need to wake your mind just a touch and keep going, so it warns you of impending unconsciousness. If someone paid a lot of attention to the counting it would not work. |

It is only good if the music is something simple you will not have to think about. Keep it short and repetative. I have used 'Row row row your boat" but replaced row with Dream, and it worked as well as anything else. Make it complex and your mind will stay too engaged preventing the body from accepting that it is time to sleep. |

I Figured i'd ask a question on anchors since i have everything down except for them. |
Any real music that you might hear on the radio is guaranteed to keep you awake, which is obviously not very helpful. |
I noticed that one of the anchors that works pretty well for me when I want to stay conscious the longer I can why crossing some sleep stages, is the mantra "to stay focused" that I say in french "rester concentré". |
Seems good to work for you, but for me i wonder why i keep failing at anchors in general. |
Ideally, an anchor will be something easy to remember. You don't want to have to think too much about it, so make it short and repetitive. |
