Nose Pinch RC failed

So last night i had an extremely vivid dream. I was in a space ship like craft when i decided hey this is sort of crazy, i should do a reality check... I did the nose pinch reality check, and i could not of course breath, as if i were not dreaming. I guess i am expecting it to not work in reality so that changed the outcome of the reality check in my dream? Has anyone had this problem? I was pretty disappointed when i woke, as i've used this RC before with success.

No, you were not expecting it not to work, it was probably because your nose was blocked by something, like your pillow, so you couldn't breath very well.
Happens to me quite often, so I use two RCs.

It has failed me once before. I remember thinking "Oh no! I've developed a resistance to it!". But since then it has been working reliably again so I think it is kind of an anomaly.

Yeah next time i'm just going to do a finger-through-hand reality check as well.

I am rock climbing around these cliffs trying to get to a clearing, a couple people from school are around. after getting through the obstacles, we get to the clearing. A school mate says something about how the climb isn't that fun, but being ropeless is cool. Soon i am following (someone) to an unknown location. The person tells me, "you wont believe how we get up there." Soon we get to another clearing and i look up to see little planes towing up a futuristic star trek style space ship/plane. Next thing you know i am in it. It is not being towed anymore. it progresses up and soon straightens in the air and accelerates to extremely fast speeds. The dream is very vivid. My brother and Dad are in the craft with me. *I SAY TO MY DAD, "RIGHT NOW IS A GOOD TIME TO DO A REALITY CHECK"* (because i found the situation really crazy) I do a nose pinch reality check, and it doesnt work.. I could not snort through my nose. The pilot is sort of crazy as he does some insane manuevers. He speeds down towards the ocean and turns the plane backwards and skips on the water, then spins back into postion. It was insane. Soon we are out of this plane floating around, and then in a car with some people trying to get to the same place as me. A dc talks about how his paintball gun is in a service room near by. There is a girl and a fat man infront of our car walking.

For it to work, you must be determined that the reality check will fail (indicating that you're in a dream), ie: your finger WILL go through your palm, or you WILL breath even though your nose is pinched off.

Yeah definitely, i've done both those RC's with success, it was just this once. I think it is because i did it very quickly in that specific dream like i do in waking life.

DUDE! I read your dream. Don't try and snort through your nose! Try breathing out first. I dunno, I always try breathing out AND THEN trying breathing in, just in case... It's only worked once though. If anything I don't remember doing RCs aside from that one time so far.

Personally i do not want to pop my ears, hhaha. Breathing in is just fine.

Ah, nose pinch can fail. I can never use it since it will never work for me, so yeah, not that weird it failed.

If you don't pay attention to it it can apear to fail. It has happened to me a few time. Make sure you breath in for long enough to ensure that you actualy can't breath and in gerneral make sure to stop and be aware when you are doing any RC.

This one time, I did the nose pinch RC and only half of it worked (I could only breathe through one nostril. I thought to myself "WTF?!" But I was already lucid at that point, I was just making sure. Turns out, when I woke up, I have that one nostril congested... So now I know that, if I have a clod, it won't work.

It failed me several times but now I've learned from my mistakes and works always.Sometimes I have the impression that I can breath but I always become suspicious after performing the RC.So I try again and the 2nd time it always works!But you have to concentrate on your breathing.Also if you performed the RC and you're just 99%you're not dreaming you're most likely dreaming.In reality after a RC you'll always know 100% if you're dreaming or not.In dreams it's tricky

it works for me. If you know what it feels like to breath in normally, and what it feels like to try breathing holding your nose, then, you will most likely be successful unless you cant breath through your nose in real life, because of allergies or whatever.

I just had it fail for me the other night -- or at least I think it did. This is the first time I remember doing an RC in a non-lucid dream, so I was pretty upset that it didn't work.

I was entering a bedroom devoid of furniture and my brother was standing there, so I thought to do the nose-pinch RC. As best as I can recall, I wasn't able to breathe, and I decided it wasn't a dream.

I'm wondering now if maybe a little bit of air leaked in through one nostril, and I just didn't pay attention because I know that's happened once or twice in real life.

The nose pinch reality check tends to be rather subtle for me most of the time. I'll pinch my nose in a dream and I'll be able barely be able to breath, like maybe I'm not pinching my nose shut completely.

I'm sure you just missed the breathing. I don't like the nose pinch anyway. Finger through the palm is a lot more clear and simple for me.

It happened to me to... my nose is always stuck at night ... What i do is that i try to breath in and out very hard several time it usually works but you can always do some other RC anyway I think you should always figure weather or not you are dreaming by looking around you looking for place people action that does makes any sens than perform a RC.

this is how it works for me. when im dreaming i can only get the slightest bit of air in. but thats all i need to know im dreaming. i had a rare fail with it a few day ago. i was sure it was a dream, did the RC, and it failed. i was fully expecting it to work. sometimes you just get unlucky.

It works the same way for me. It either works fine and I can fully breath or I get a little bit and think I am just plugging my noes wrong. Now I realize that it still means I am dreaming and it dosn't fail anymore.
