My experience: I've experimented with doing RCs to the point of obsession. It worked the first day I had the idea, but it didn't work after that and an increase in effort had no effect. That's just my experience of it though.

My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

Usually the "first day effect" is heightened excitement associated with something new related to LDing. Some call this the "placebo" effect.

it didn't work after that and an increase in effort had no effect.
Really? How many months did you practice (seriously, conscientiously, every day) before deciding it had no effect? How many times per day? Did you do physical as well as mental RCs? Did you each time really truly wonder about your state and try your hardest to prove to yourself what state you were in? Did you also work on dream recall? Visualization / expectation? Night-time techniques? Because LD practice involves more than just RCs. However, even given that, if you did a steady, consistent, frequent stream of quality RCs for months with zero results I'd be very surprised.

I was satisfied that the amount of effort I was putting in wasn't worth it for the amount of LDs I was getting in return.
