Thread: The dangers of astral projection

I just stumbled upon this article and would just like to hear some of your views on the dangers of astral projection/OBE

"Astral projection is the idea that one can, with practice, “project” one’s consciousness, soul, or spirit, outside of the body while in a sleeping state.

There are many books and resources that would tell you how this is achieved with much practice. But what isn’t always exposed however, are the negative aspects, and harmful/terrifying experiences and attacks the practice often brings about.

If one were to think of our fleshly body as an automobile and our spirit as the person inside it driving around, one might gain a more accurate view of astral projection. One would never drive into a known dangerous neighborhood, get out and leave the car unlocked. Yet, with astral projection, this is exactly what people attempt to do. They try to “get out” of their bodies while asleep and roam around in their spirit. All the while their body remains open and unguarded. It is theorized, in the opinion of this author, that this may be one possible way for demon possession, “prior lives”, and and/or “split personality” to occur. If one leaves their body, it is a very real possibility for another spirit to come in and occupy it as well.


Most people who have become involved in this practice have many fears about leaving their body. Remember, fear is a good thing. Fear is a God-given self-protection mechanism. Fear keeps us from doing stupid things. Fear helps keep us alive. When we stand on a high precipice and look down, why do we feel fear? The answer is obvious--So we don’t fall and get killed! Fear is our instinct that tells us we are in danger when our mind is ignoring common sense.

So why do people do things that are very dangerous and potentially harmful to themselves? Probably because they become addicted to the adrenaline rush they feel if they survive. Keep in mind the old saying,

“There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots. But there are no old, bold pilots!”

Only the crazy ones. Getting over most fear is actully considered a good thing by sane Christians. There is a difference between fear of death which most people fear and heights themselves. That and there are many religious people who get out of their cars in dangerous neighborhoods any way. To sum this up it's not Jesus people but the crazy ones like huckabee

out of all the people I have talked to that astral project all say the same thing. The only dangerous thing about it is the fear itself. Lose the fear and you'll be fine.

I think I could offer some good insight here. I come from a very conservative Christian household. I came across astral projection while studying lucid dreams and began researching it as thoroughly as I could.

While I have been trying to think for myself and be an open minded person, I find myself falling back on the religious fear of the unknown because I've been raised in it. But when I let go of the fear, I feel that I've discovered more than ever before. In all my studies I have only found one solid conclusion: A lot of Christians are blind. They accept what any preacher says to be truth. There is no self discovery what so ever, which is fueled by fear.

I had an astral projection about a month ago, and guess what? It was an incredible experience and has made me become a more spiritual person open to spiritual things.

If people, especially the author, opened their minds and explored this, people wouldn't be so blind to what the human mind can do.

Fear is your only enemy when astral projecting and getting rid of this fear is a must otherwise like in a lucid, it can give you a terrifying experience. I didn't practice APing due to the fear of the unknown, however, I plan to try whenever I lose this fear

Christian rhetoric also states that; meditating and clearing your mind can lead to demon possession, that Autistics and psychotics have demons acting within them, which is why they are "messed up"(seriously, I have been working in psychology for over 7 years and STILL get that question from Christian people working in the field.), that thinking bad thoughts too much invites demons, asking too many questions invites demons, not going to church, missing regular prayers, praying to the wrong God or in the wrong way to the right god, eating jiffy pop, masturbating, wearing condoms. etc. etc.

I concur with there is only fear to be on fear itself.

If you don't believe it to dangerous it quite possibly will not be dangerous.

I am glad I read this before trying to Astral Project. When I practise doing so, I think I sleep in a protection circle, and smudge by bedroom and deffinately ask my guardian angles to keep me safe, and proberly buy some astral projecting protection crystals.

Since you asked...

The argument is fallacious. Just because you are afraid of something, doesn't make it dangerous.

Modern Protestant Christianity is generally xenophobic, because they have one book to explain the entire universe. Of course, everything in the universe is not going to be mentioned by the Bible, so Christians just have to guess if those things are right or wrong like: astral projection, lucid dreaming, sex in dreams, dream sex, sex in lucid dreams, masturbation, doing drugs, using electronics, oral sex, polluting, manual stimulation...

Here are a list of things that are wrong in the Bible:
worshiping other gods
cooking a goat in its mother's milk
wearing gold (women only)
wearing braids (women only)
talking in the synagogue (women only)
having relations with your half-sister
touching the Ark
thinking about sex with your neighbor's wife
homosexuality
eating pigs
eating camels
eating eels
eating shrimp

Here are a list of things that are right in the Bible:
slavery
killing children (but only of your enemies)
animal sacrifice
human sacrifice
killing old people and women (but only if they are enemies)
having relations with your half-sister

That being said-
Astral projection is dangerous. Dangerous as dreaming, dangerous as sleeping.

Can you encounter entities out there in the astral plane that want to do you harm? Yes. Can they possess your body? Maybe. I have tried so many times, but they won't come! HAHAHA. Okay, enough being creepy. You should protect yourself, and learn how to battle in the dream state and astral state, but don't worry about being possessed or going insane.

Lucid dreaming helps you battle negative entities, because with lucidity comes power and control.

Just make sure you ground yourself when you return to your body, and protect yourself out there.

Iam sorry but I 100% completely and utterly disagree. There is nothing you should be afraid of in this reality. Fear is simply the lack of whatever you are doing. In this case Lack of protection and love. You do realize that you can ask your spirit guide, and also your subconscious if it makes you feel better, to help protect you and only allow brilliant pure light into your realm. Now do I believe there are entities that influence people and try to take the energy that would be flowing into you for themselves? Absolutely. How do they influence em and take this energy? Threw your conscious mind with its fears and anger and any other negative that detaches you from the ever flowing Astral Energy. There is no dark energy, there is only lack of energy.

I've got this dream yesterday morning and would just like some of your views on it thanks!

"This morning about 6am i had a normal dream, kinda vivid but the dream transitioned to me lying in bed as if i was awake but my body was asleep. So then i was lying still and felt sleep paralysis hitting me, my head started sinking into my pillow and almost couldn't breath until i told myself that its only in my head. and then my body started sinking into my bed but not all the way through. Then from some previous research i attempted to turn my dream body like a safety cap and stood up!!! and there was my dream body lying in bed!!! It felt very real at the moment! Then for some reason I was laughing at my dream body in some arrogant way... some thoughts crossed my mind that if i leave my body alone that some demon my posses it! lol but forgot about it and went out my flat and tried to fly but couldn't! As I try to jump i only go about 6 feet in the air. Then my dad came out of the house and as he was opening the house back door to go outside I was trying to scare him for some reason but he didnt respond. Then he was busy knocking on my flats door to wake me up and I quickly went into my sleeping body to wake up, and then after i woke up I was back in my real body but it was stil a dream! and in that dream i woke up to tell him that I just tried to scare him in my "out of body Experience" and then I woke up for real!

So my question: Was this a lucid dream or Out of body Experience?
I never had a lucid dream before neither a "OOBE"

lol rein.. few years ago i had the same a dream in a dream OBE experience. but it was scary so i stopped lucid dreaming but i came back now after watching inception. awesome movie on lucid dreams. haha.

i woke up from obe but i was still in a dream then i woke up for real. sorry i cant answer you. lol

That article made me laugh. I can tell it's written by a right-leaning (at the least) christian, Which would make it very biased against astral projection.

And finally, I'll leave you all with a thought: I'd rather be a bold pilot than an old one.

I'm not christian and I don't really believe that, but it is true that you are leaving your body completely without conscience. Basically, your body is vulnerable to, not demons (XD), but other people that might want to harm you. I mean, you litteraly are not even conscious.

Astral Projection IS taking your conscience out of your body to look around. I know for a fact that nothing mystic and bad is going to happen out there, but your real body is vulnerable because it is not conscious, since the consciousness is roaming the astral plane. So no i don't agree with the article at all. I think it's B.S. But you are vulnerable to someone coming into the room and hurting you, and chances are you won't wake up to defend yourself if something happens...

A man from Pennsylvania once tried to tell me about all the sights and famous buildings in Africa without having been there himself. Upon my arrival, an African man told me that most of those places had already been torn down and some of them were of no greater significance compared to some of the other places to explore.

There's nothing mystic about astral projection.
It is a different form of WILD which leads to a different kind of lucid dreams.
