What's the longest you have been without food?

      My length of time

17 days and I nearly collapsed from malnutrition and stole food for the first and only time.

The reason I went that long

      Homelessness and drug addiction

      The point of this thread

I am aware that thousands of people starve to death everyday despite there being enough food produced globally to feed the entire population of the world several times over. That is what the United Nations say. Discuss.

My max was not very long. I've deprived myself of sleep for almost 36 hours, deprived myself of air for over 2 minutes, but food? There are some things I just can't bring myself to do without! Lol.

Seriously, though. I think the longest has been a little more than a day. Same with water.

I share your thought. I think the greatest humanitarian crime today is the rich nations not sharing their wealth with the poor nations. Food should be a right and not a financial privilege. And the most abominable point is that the food is obviously rotting somewhere whilst people are starving.

Exactly 48 hours, last year. I did it because I wanted to see if I had the willpower to. By the end, I was in the computer lab at my college and the cartoonish black and white hamburger outline on the 'no food or drink' sign was making my mouth water.

Give money to poor countries and they'll just spend it on AK-47s... The need for change has to come from within, it's not up to the West to solve everybody's problems.

I've gone about 48 hours without food. It wasn't that bad, I could've gone longer, but I was in a crappy mindset at the time.

3 days, or around 70 hours, but well, money had to go to studying, or else there would never be more money. It happened quite a bit, so whenever I had the chance to eat, I would devour instead lol

No I was talking about giving them food not money. Which rich country is gonna swap food for assault rifles. How can the change come from within when you are starving to death...?

It is normally because they have corrupt governments, and it doesn't matter how much you give them because the people will never get it. It all goes into the pockets of the leaders. This is why some countries get ton of aid, yet they still always seem poor. If you want to stop hunger, you need to stop corruption, then you need to reach countries to build up their own food supply. Everyone should be self sufficient after all, and not always relying on others to feed them.

Not bad. That is quite a while. A fast for that long is quite tricky. What really f**ked me up was drugs on top and bad weather as no home either.

Actually starvation is generally to climatic conditions and natural disaster, corruption comes second.

Poor countries get tons (literally tons) of food aid. Problem is most food is perishable.

It's the same principle though, give a man a fish, teach a man to fish, etc.

Yes but not enough. The IMF and World Bank want them to borrow money they often eventually can't afford to pay back.

I agree absolutely, but again the aid is extremely miserly. Food and water are the first requirement, quickly followed by medicine and shelter. With those ingredients people become happier and have hope and a society can flourish and start to fend for itself.

Longest time is probably 5 days, but ever since I've had limited income I commonly don't eat for 2 or 3 days at a time, it doesn't really start to bother me before then. What's amazing is how much my stomach has shrunk, I used to be able to eat, for example, 4 McDoubles in a row, but I can barely get down 2 without feeling so full that I'm going to puke. This is all partly because I spend most of my money on the weekend or just on weed throughout the week, and I'd just rather be high than eat. More enjoyable, and honestly healthier. I still get all the nutrients I need, minus the huge portions and fat.

Probably 5 or 6 days. My senior year sometimes I would wire in to a big project and forget about everything else for days.

about 36 hours; I've thought about fasting just to see if I could do it, and to see what it's like. But at the same time I like eating a lot. When I used to smoke cigarettes I'd regularly go all day without eating then eat a whole bunch at night but rarely went more than 12 hours.

If you feel that it's important to feed hungry people, don't rely on the government to do it. The government can't do anything right, bunch of dumbasses who are motivated by power and politics, not by what is right, not by what is compassionate. It's not their place to make the world right anyway, when they try to the usually just make things worse. If you want something to happen in this world you have to go out and do it yourself.
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

Personally I think we should get rid of most of our military and with the trillions of dollars we save, we could easily help every country in the world get clean water and food. If we did that, we probably wouldn't have many enemies left, and the military wouldn't really be needed.

I completely agree, except spend half of it fixing the education system here too. Only problem is probably less than 5% of people would agree, in my opinion because of the broken education system(though I suppose real education happens outside of class).

I've gone without food for nearly a week. During that time I also had a BARE minimum amount of water.
I was about 14/15 years old and I ran away from home for (if memory serves) about 10 days. I left with Garfield strawberry gummy/fruit snacks and I stopped at a store and bought a large pack of Crackle Candy Bars and (by accident) some seltzer water *gag*. I also had a small bottle of Coke that I bought during the beginning of my trek.
This took place in Pensacola, Florida in the early part of the year (March, I think). It was freezing cold that year. Unfortunately, the home I made for myself was in a patch of woods behind a Popeyes Chicken and 2 other restaurants. When the wind blew just right, I was miserable lol
At the end of my stay, I found a small round cactus. I shaved it and ate it. It tasted a lot like kiwii.

From the ages of 18-22 or so I frequently skipped eating for days so my hubby and kids could eat (I told myself he worked and needed his strength and my kids were young and needed the nutrition).

Now, I'm an opportunistic eater. I eat like a queen at the beginning of the week (when I get my allowance) but for the last 3 days or so, I barely eat anything. But my kids still have food. I'd rather have smokes and soda and junk food to stave off hunger pains. But all in all, I'm still packing the pounds because I'm inactive. (My weight is still "perfect" according to the charts though. I want to lose 20 pounds, but I love my junk too much).

I live in a very small country town. We have 1 homeless man. MANY people are on Food Stamps and we have a couple of food banks as well. So, locally, I don't see hunger as being an issue. Junk meat and pasta/potatoes is cheaper than fruits and veggies so there's a LOT of over weight people. West Virginia (where I live) is the 3rd fattest state in the nation.

Exactly. I know that people care because I remember the footage of famine in Ethiopia about 25 years ago and lots of the members of the public donated a huge amount of money. But the situation is quickly forgotten. I had an email from a politician yesterday. I have never had one single reply from the any prime minister I have written to. And every time I write to a politician I haven't once written about a domestic issue, it has always been a global issue.

      Brilliant video and sad too.

The military are the perfect tool to distribute the food, water purifying equipment, medicine and all the building materials to give the poorest of the poor the happiness and hope to start to live a life worth living.

We Muslims fast from about 2am to 9pm or so everyday for a month during Ramadan, although Sufi Muslims would fast for weeks without food or water.
Personally, yeah, just the normal fast..so..close to a day or so.

Yeah, and the EU throw away food that looks irregular.
      Disgusting.

I swear the UN doesn't do enough..It's just America's poodle just as the League of Nations was Great Britain's poodle.
