Is anyone ever truly surprised with the content of the dialogue in their dreams?

After various (non-lucid) dreams I'd often wake up thinking that there were some extremely clever/creative aspects to some of the dialogue within my dreams. However, I'd struggle to remember specifically what these were. For that reason I'd often dismiss the notion that any of it had any real substance because, let's face it, the brain's not exactly in top gear, in some aspects, during sleep (example: rationalising a flying pig and not recognising you're in a dream).

However, this view changed entirely when, during a lucid dream, I decided to pay attention to the TV (got the idea from the film 'Waking Life', I'd imagine most of you are fimiliar with this).

Now, this is a daft example, but it's been a while since I've remembered any dreams and this was some time ago, but whilst watching TV this one time, my subconscious mind came up with a large chunk of a South Park episode. Fan or not, you must be able to appreciate the wit involved in the writing. I've watched every episode to date and the material my mind came up with was totally original. I woke up remembering the vast majority of it.

Now, please bear in mind that this is just one example, I can't remember the specifics of any others (more reason for my to get my act together and keep a DJ), but there were examples of good ideas and conversation that I'd usually consider above myself in some ways.

Might all sound like a bit of a farse cause the truth is, I can't remember any examples well enough to quote them (as I said, been a while since I've remembered a dream). Regardless, I'd love to hear people's experiences relating to a similar subject ^_^

The only time I get dialogue in my dreams is when it advances the story. That means mostly when somebody tells me to do something.

Well, if you can enter a lucid dream, it'd be cool if you could maybe try finding a TV and checking out what comes on. I'd be mega interested to see what people find =)

I often get to talk with DCs and have long conversations, of course we talk about stuff that is happening within the dream or myths on the world I'm at or sad stories about their past or something else.

When my nan passed away, I had a dream that it was my mum that had passed away and my Nan was sitting at the table with me consoling me. I remember waking up when I was 10 years old and it felt so real, like someone was whispering in my ear.

Have also dreamt I was somehow stranded in Japan with mates(who couldn't speak the language) and had to converse with locals to get around. Studied it for about three years in highschool but haven't really spoken it much since. Was suprised how fluently the DC's spoke and when I woke up I could recall sentences and still write it in some of the japanese scripts.
Really shows the info the mind retains.

Have caught up with people I haven't seen in a while and had conversations where they spoke with their own mannerisms etc and like Hakif mentioned spoke of the past etc. Kind of odd waking up and realising these reunions of sorts never happened.

Do have dreams where I have articulate conversations about philosophy or something but can never recall anything specific.

About a week ago I had a dream, where I watched a lady live out her entire life. On her deathbed she said, "In life you'll get an illness; after you've passed it on to someone else, it'll kill you."

Not something I would've thought of whilst awake!
"Don't kill me. I'm in a dream right now, and if you kill me I'll die in real life too!" -Me, age 5-8, talking to a dinosaur.

^ It's the same for me.

Some of the recurring characters in my dreams like to be very mysterious though.
They will often tell me things, that I will not fully understand or seem out of context, but they usually somehow end up helping me realize or understand something.
      Dreams are simple.
It's the painfully simple things the human mind cannot comprehend.
After all your mind is trained to understand the complexity of the waking world,
not the simplicity of the dream world.
