You can wake up, become non-lucid, just get out of the dream body and watch from a different perspective, change to a new scene, nothing happens, just so many options. For me it means something similar to regular death. |

Hey guys, just had a question about lucid dreams, what happens if you die in a lucid dream? Do you wake up, or does something else happen? |

Yeah, it all depends on you, really. Sometimes you'll wake up, sometimes you'll have a FA, sometimes you'll end up in hell or heaven or something. I've been to heaven and hell after dying in dreams. |

I can't die in my dreams, I've been shot, sliced, stabbed, dismembered, nothing seems to kill me. It just pisses me off. Odd.. |
|
When I die in dreams I will either have a false awakening, go "unconscious" and wake up, or have time reverse itself to when I was alive again. Dying in a dream can really hurt sometimes, but not nearly as much as really being shot or stabbed. |

Dreams are unpredictable; it is our expectations that drives the results of something that occurs in a dream. If you expect to wake up, you will; if you expect to enter an afterlife-type dream, you will. If you think of nothing as you "die", anything can happen because you aren't mentally telling the dream to go a certain direction: what your subconscious believes will happen after dying could take place, and this could be absolutely anything. I'm sure that the chances of actually waking up upon death also may have something to do with how light a sleeper one is, but that's just an untested guess. |

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I've been shot by a huge electric eel with electricity in a non lucid and just felt a tingling sensation, I've also been shot in the head in a non lucid by an ape overlord. I just went into another dream after that. That dream was weird. |

I was so much older then, I'm younger then that now.
It's weird, because even in a non-lucid situation, I'll somehow find a "loophole" to not die. For instance, one dream I was in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and I got bitten, but instead of dying I said, "Oh wait, I have superpowers." I then flew off and had an adventure. |
|
I've been shot with a bullet before in a non lucid and I had a lucid the other night and my alarm radio went off and my brother turned into a zombie and killed me, I woke up after the dream it was pretty wicked, There are other times in non lucids where I got shot by an arrow and I woke up after that and felt the pain in my back. Pretty weird don't you think? |
|
I've died and became a ghost. It's rather unpleasant, actually. Although I basically just became this being that floated through everything and I was all whispy. |

It was the best of times. It was the end of times.
If I became a ghost in an ld I would like haunt my friends. That'd be cool. |

I once had a lucid where i was trying to convince some DCs that I wasnt lying to them about the dream-world and they said the only way i could prove it was by killing myself. So i summoned a gun and shot myself in the face. Upon waking up i felt like id got one up on them haha, hopefully they will listen next time! (I also felt a bit relieved, it was a very everyday kind of scene with good friends of mine) |

I always wake up or have an FA. Fun. |
|
Interesting thread...I have had LD and non LD's where I was shot, stabbed, even had my limbs torn off by a demon- crazy creepy stuff. My questions is when something similar happens to you guys is it extremely painful? |
|
I think its clear already by the above posts that the results vary. |
|
I've died once in a non-lucid dream, and I just became a ghost. Didn't wake up (as suggested in "Inception") or anything.. |

So many different things can happen when you die in a dream, it's really interesting to think about |

Spoiler for Goals:
yea many different things can happen when you die in a dream whether its lucid or not. Usually the dream will either end, and a new one will begin, or you will just wake up, sometimes you don't even die even if you do something that normally should kill you. |

Current goal: Learning pyrokinesis and FUS RO DAH
I never seem to die in dream unless its by falling! And when i do die i just wake up or go into another dream. |

So far I've been run over by cars and a rhino sized lizard, some times i resurrect out of the shattered body and stand out of it till i pull myself out. other times i just teleport to the side and remote view my old self. In some instances, like with the lizard, I actually felt every bone get crushed and sometimes i feel when a blade cuts me. depends on the dreamers association with those pains. if you've never died you don't know what it's like so your dream death would be random ideas you associate with death, pain however is varied by experience, I've been trampled and cut and stabbed so i knew what i would feel. Ignoring pain is easy, especially if you don't see the damage take place, but "feeling" is a bit rare so i don't avoid it for study sake. |
