Red face What I've realized about mostly all the great lucid dreamers here on dreamviews

There's one thing I see quite a lot on this forum: people searching for the holy grail technique for lucid dreaming. I was like that myself. When I first started attempting to lucid dream about 4 years ago, I did everything I was supposed to, straight from the book (or in this case the forum) I tried out all the techniques, and had very minor success. Maybe about 6 or 7 lucid dreams. From then, until now, that number only increased by about 3. So in 4 years, I only had, at most, 11 ld.

I realized that the tutorials weren't the problem. No tutorial or guide is wrong, especially if it worked for the guy or gal who made it. No, the problem was me.
I never put my own spin into the guides. And that was my downfall. I lost motivation after about 4 days of trying every technique. It was because I felt like a robot doing something that someone else programmed.

I began wondering how people became incredibly good at lucid dreaming. I found a good amount of them here on dream views and compared them to everyone else. I found something:

Every constant lucid dreamer do their own thing! They diverge from guides and put their own 2 cents into it. They make their own technique with the information they get from other guides. Or they even make their own technique from scratch!

I know there are people who probably were successful in becoming lucid by following, word for word, a guide. That being said, I will bet that consistency would be more frequent to those who found their own way to do things.

Right now, I am attempting something that is rarely talked about in this forum: inducing lucid dreams by hallucination with your eyes closed. I'm not talking about HH, but full blown hallucination that can be created whenever, any time of the day. With this, I will be able to lucid dream whenever, whether as soon as I go to sleep, while I'm taking a nap, in the middle of the when I'm fully awake, etc. I will refine to the point of 100% accuracy.

This is how I will become a master at lucid dreaming. To conclude, please consider making your own technique, or at the least, making your own spin off of someone else's technique. Only you know what will work at what won't.

Also, something that helped me is staying away from the threads thats basically about how they can't lucid dream no matter how hard they try. That and other negative thread. That really made me feel like lucid dreaming constantly was unattainable. But truth is, it's not. Lucid dreaming is a mind game! Haha, that's all I got.

Totally agree, find it funny we made very similar threads on the same day too. But yes to the information being spread over!

How ironic that you make a thread like this now. I agree with you on how someone has to have their own creative way on obtaining lucidity. I have recently learn that myself and my technique has not failed me to become Lucid. Now I choose when I wish to have an LD and it always works though it does take away the fun of random LD's. I however disagree that if you know how to become Lucid every day makes you a master. There's more to Lucid dreaming than just constanly becoming Lucid every time you try. There's Dream control and that's something I am still working on and even with that being said we all don't know everything that an LD can offer us who knows maybes there's more to it than we could've imagine. That's what makes it's interesting.

I really couldn't agree more. I was lucid dreaming a year or two ago, (Although, I've since stopped to focus on other things) and couldn't correctly have a lucid dream until I was exactly tired enough at the right time for me. I had to stay awake until exactly 4AM and then try to WILD. It worked almost 100% of the time. They were short LD's but it still worked. Everyone is different after all.
      Oof.

You have a really good point there. Of course, each person will find a technique more or less useful. I, for instance, find it impossible to WILD, but have good results with WBTB. At the end of the day you will get a technique as a sample and adapt it so it works for you.

I dont have so much experience in induced LDīs yet, but so far i had 2 LDīs on 2 nights out of 3 nights/mornings trying.

The two times i got success i used my own versions of many diffrent tutorials here on DW and other siteīs, i used WBTB blended with some kind of WILD/DEILD that i mixed up my way. The last step was always to use HH to try and induce a LD. If it didnt work the after the first i woke up i would try it again the next time i woke from i dream. Focusing on the HH and at the same time have pictures in my head of what i wanted and knowing that it was HH, i wouldnt let i get me to a regular dream because i know it is getting close and im aware of it and can control my own will.

Yesterday i sat down, started reading here on DWīs. I noticed alot of people who said i should ignore the HHīs and not focusing on them. Also i saw a youtube tutorial of the guy at the lucidity website. When he WBTB he stayed up almost a hour and wrote in his DJ.(What i done the succeded times was to stay in bed a couple of minutes after awoken, thinking about the dreams i had and getting them in my memory and after that i would go to the bathroom, go back to bed and start a WILD attempt after being awake 5-10 minutes)

So this morning i tried that guys routine after waking up and having in my mind that i would ignore my HH and focuse on other stuff related to LDīs and what i wanted to do in it.
This resulted in me having problem go back to sleep after being up about 30-40 minutes remembering dreams and writing it down in my DJ, and i had problem getting into SP because i was to awake so all the noises outside made it very hard to focus. And i didnt have any LDīs this night/morning, nothing iīve planned happend or existed in the regular dreams either. The only related to LD in this time was that i was talking to a cousin of mine about LDīs for a little while in one of the dreams i had.

So i think, atleast for some people like myself that itīs important to use the things that earlier worked for you. To take som advice from tutorials and use it ur own way and not believe that you have to follow something the exact way itīs explained for you.

Tonight i will do it my own mixed way again to see if the results is diffrent.

      Well said, serialdreamer!

Vile, you have a very good point there. There are many many other factors determining if you can call yourself an experienced or "master" lucid dreamer. Maybe a better phrase would be a " master lucid inducer," huh?

Truth! The guides are a great starting point, but eventually, everyone has to find what works best for them. That could be the guides word-for-word, or the guides with a personal twist, or something completely different. Just gotta keep trying until something is found that works.

Sit down, shut up and ask yourself, "What's true?" until you know.

Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way

Most tutorials don't give the true depth of the subject, for that you have to think for yourself, that's why I try to write more about how I think something works rather than what you should be doing; if you can understand the why then you can make your own how or modify an existing one.

You're probably right, but I think it's a good idea to learn about what's out there before you can start tweaking it. At least, that's what I'm doing. I've had some minor success ever since I started RC:ing and journaling. People say to practice dream recall and although I am still relatively new to lucid dreaming, I think it makes sense. Really, the tutorials I have read aren't really that rigid. Recall your dream, learn to ask yourself if you're dreaming, that's basically what it all comes down to. I'd like to be able to WILD but that's very far into the future, I think I'll have a better luck with DILD since I've already learned to RC in them more often.

Morning, Raffifish. Mostly agreed. You definitely need to know some things to get the ball rolling. There are dozens and dozens of variations out there. It definitely would not hurt to do some research.

However, concerning your reason to DILD, I'd really recommend you aim for something you enjoy rather than the option that seemingly makes sense to be easier. I honestly don't think WILDing is easier or harder than DILDing. It just depends on the amount of energy of finding out how a certain technique can work for you.

There's definitely a stigma that WILDing is like "hardcore mode" for some video game. I really do believe the main reason it's like that is because nearly all the post on WILD attempts are "Why can't I WILD", or "Almost WILD, what went wrong?", or "was this a WILD?", or "I saw this scary demon while In sleep paralysis. He was staring at my butt", etc, etc. All these post can get into anyone's head and make them follow lead with the results that everyone else is getting. I rarely see anyone post something along the lines of "woot. I definitely 100% had a WILD. It was 100% successful!"

Haha, a bit longer than I thought. Anyways, summary of my rant: Try WILD (a way that works for you) if you find it more fun and exciting. Also, stay away from the posts that aren't success stories.
