Is lucid dreaming all that great?

I go into the lucid state a lot of the time. In fact I had several very horrible realistic dreams. I have had dreams that were too real as long as I can remember. I had gained control over these dreams over the years but it doesn't stop the bad realistic dreams from coming. Most I can do is force myself awake. Some of you may think I am lying but I am not. Through as a result when my realistic dreams do take a turn for the worse I normally am able to force myself awake. One of most interesting dreams takes place in basement of my house. I walk down the stairs and smell a horrible oder. I realize it's a dead body and follow the smell to a black trash bag in which somehow I knew a cut up body was inside. I have felt myself being shot, stabbed, and cut. Every time I could feel it. I even had dreams where I was covered in water or sand and could not breathe. However, I was able to feel what it is like to fly. But still, overall I find myself drawn to the lucid dream state. There was even one or two times where I was so deep into the lucid dream state that it was like I was awake, but at the same time I knew I wasn't. Another thing has any of you met people while in Lucid dreams that seem 'different' from most dream people. If so do they chase you in your dreams? Because I keep getting chased in mine. Also some of these people sniffed/ smelled me when I said something about their world that was not true. Somehow I knew the were trying to determine if I was like them or one of them.

Those are some messed up dreams, man. Lucid dreaming, by definition, is simply realizing that you're dreaming. If anything, that realization should diminish your fears, not escalate them. If possible, I would recommend confronting your fears head-on. So, if you're being chased, smite your chasers with a fireball or hack them in half or teleport them to the moon or something. If you have a black smelly trash bag, send it far away or turn it into something else, or cremate the thing. Lucid dreaming is a great opportunity to deal with your fears and nightmares. And once the bad dreams go away, or you are at least able to turn them to your advantage, they become loads of fun!

LD's are simply wonderful! Some people, like you aparently, just need to work harder with getting the realistic stuff that are bad to a minimal. With practice, you won't have to live with the bad stuff in your LD's. You can change it in countless ways.
If you see a strange typo in my post, blame my iPad for that.

Ah, but there's nothing like seeing the shock on your characters' faces when you stand up after being shot point blank in the head.

It sounds like you're not really experiencing lucid dreams if things are happening in them that you don't like/want - at the least, they're low-level lucidity. True lucid dreaming really is all that great because you'll be able to change all the bad things and change the direction the dream is taking Good luck!

Yeah, like 90sjesus said, true lucid dreams are controlled entirely by you.

I feel sorry for you that you have such unpleasant experiences while dreaming, but at the same time your dreams do sound really interesting. The sniffing is really weird.

You should start a dream journal! I'd really like to read some of these nightmares. Maybe focusing on them more and sharing them will help to make them less scary or unpleasant?

I read a book on "astral travel" that had a pretty neat line in it. When confronted with a scary character, he would say "I love you" to it. I thought it was an awesome way to deal with this kind of stuff because you are reframing things.

Changing and directing your emotional state is a great form of dream control. I've actually used this on several occasions--namely when I didn't feel like kicking some ass. Try changing your emotional state into something positive like kindness or 'love' when faced with a potential adversary. In turn, those feelings should be projected upon the dream state, which usually results in a much more friendly monster or assaulter. Heck, with this technique you two could end up becoming great friends!

However, that's not nearly as cool as shoving a blade into your aggressor's body and watching his/her/its expression as death slowly creeps in.

      Just sayin'.

I'd suggest confronting your fears first, maybe not just beating the snot out of them. Do that if they become unruly while having an intellectual dialogue wit them.
I don't usually think, therefore I mostly am not.

Reiterating what Mario said earlier, a "true" lucid dream is just a dream where you know that you're dreaming during the dream. Dream control may or may not come along with it. Sorry if I'm nitpicking; there just seems to be a fair amount of confusion about that.

looks like you need to learn dream control. face your fears, and conquer them.

Well, I don't exactly know how the thread title has to do with your post. Anyway...

If you become lucid in a nightmare, you should stay in it instead of wake up. Just leave the place or fight the people that are chasing you. Teleport or fly away.

The people that are chasing you are real. You should kick their ass, or hug them.

Maybe you should try to realize why you are having such horrible dreams? The dreams could easily be a reflection of how you feel in real life. If there's any truth to that, then I think that's what you should try to come to come to terms with. Solve problems and face fears. That kinda thing, myees?

Other than that, I agree with hidden. Turn around and give them hugs - It's your dream, you decide what people can do and cannot do, and they cannot go around stabbing people or chasing you !
