Putting ice on actually reduces healing. You need maximum bloodflow to allow it to heal.

      Hmm...
Is this just being tired or something like depersonalisation?

Really?! Is the ice thing just a common misconception or what?

Is this just being tired or something like depersonalisation?
      Definitely not just me being tired. I had to Wikipedia "depersonalisation", and found something interesting though;

It is also a prominent symptom in some other non-dissociative disorders, such as anxiety disorders, clinical depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia,[2] borderline personality disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, migraine and sleep deprivation, and it can be a symptom of some types of neurological seizure
So maybe this is just another symptom to add to the list that I was unaware of before. In guess it's time to see the therapist again...

Damn, just when I thought I had everything under control!

Thanks for the info for sure, though! Naturally I'll seek more information before taking any action, of course. Have you had experience with feelings like this in the past?

Well it's a bit of a trade-off. Putting ice on reduces the swelling and relieves pain, but it does also diminish blood flow. As long as you don't cool it down excessively that's not really a problem as some of the swelling isn't really helping that much.

No it's not. The reason we use ice is to reduce swelling. If it's in any way swollen or still painful you should be using an ice-pack. Ice is specifically meant for sprains, bruises and overuse injuries.
The ice works through lowering the blood flow, stopping inflammation and reducing internal bleeding.

Heat pads are meant for more chronic injuries, where the aim is to relax muscle and maximize bloodflow.

Until the bruises or sprain is fully formed you should be applying ice, afterwards you can apply heat to heal it. You wouldn't want to cause inflammation by applying heat too early.

I HATE MY LIFE SO FUCKING MUCH

So we're going on a school trip to Paris on april 29th - april 30th.
And my favorite band (of mice & men) just announced that they will come to brussels, guess when they're coming? Yep, April 30th.
This just can't be happening omfg. There are 365 days a year, why are both of these events happening on the same day?? ;c
Maybe if I'm lucky we'll get home somewhere in the afternoon, so I can still go.
There are two other bands playing at 7-9pm and I think of mice & men start at about 9pm.
If I go by train, It'll probably take an hour and a half to get to brussels. So if I get home from Paris before 7.30pm, I should be able to go.
I'm going to ask my teacher tomorrow, if she has any idea when we will be getting home. I can't cancel the school trip either because I've already paid for it.
So I cant get my money back. I'm so devastated.. WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY
      Can you guys pray for me please? I honestly need to go D;

      I'm 100% done with life

Stop over-reacting, that is the dynamic of life. Sometimes you just can't make it.
Your life isn't over and the whole ordeal will seem like nothing in 2 years. Thinking about it negatively isn't going to solve anything.

Ya it's a shame, but hell you're going to paris, that's pretty damn cool too.

I know, I'm over-reacting but going to gigs and seeing my favorite bands live is basically the only thing I really love to do. ^^
I actually don't really care about anything else (apart from friends and family).
And not really haha, I hate Paris. I've been there before and I really didn't like it there.
It's way too crowded for me and it's a 7 hour drive by bus. I pretty much hate 80% of the people at my school. And I'm sure we'll be staying
at a crappy hotel like we did last year. So I'd much rather just stay at home and go to the gig than go to paris.
But I guess I'll just have to go and try to make the best out of it and hopefully I can go to the gig aswell.

It's thanksgiving and I'm fucking sick as a dog. Everyone's in the kitchen making yummy food and I'm in bed eating cream of shrimp soup with oyster crackers. I had to get Danny to make it and he did it wrong. And he said "too bad." Then he dropped one of my crackers on the floor.

And how come suddenly there are these random necroed threads today? I don't really give 10 shits a out it, just wondering if there was some other holiday today.

Edit: oh yeah and THEN I said I wanted to see some nature, meaning open the curtains. So he pulled down his pants and said "here's the moon baby." Then when I said I wanted to hear the birds chirping he said "there are no birds, they all went south for the winter." I said this IS the south. But he still didnt open the window.

Sort of anyway. They used to think reducing swelling was a better trade off.
But inflammation causes healing macrophages to flood the area, which produce insulin growth factor, helping healing.
There's a reason it swells up, and that's why. The same way there's a reason why you cough up phlegm when you've got a cold, to get rid of the virus. Your body does these things for a reason, it doesn't just happen.

Study: Surprise: Scientists discover that inflammation helps to heal wounds

Yes, I have. Got it when I was taking anti-depressants and drinking. Also a couple of other times after that when taking nothing.
I personally enjoyed it, found it very calming, everything felt like a dream so I felt like I do in a lucid dream.
Was very freeing. But because I didn't worry about it, it eventually went away. Whereas most people get scared coz it's a feeling they haven't felt before and that just exacerbates it (the phenomenon is probably caused by chronic stress) so it can last for years.

      So.... STOP PANIC! xD

That's really interesting but it says nothing against putting ice on your wound. The case is geared towards anti-inflammatory drugs. As it says in the study
"For wounds to heal we need controlled inflammation, not too much, and not too little,"
Ice is certainly not going to get rid of the inflammation completely, it's purpose is to reduce internal bleeding to stop the inflammation from causing more inflammation. Especially considering ice is only applied for the first few hours. Not applying ice can make it much worse in some cases.

So no, there is no misconception, using ice for acute muscle injuries is perfectly logical.

EDIT: It is known that inflammation when skin isn't broken isn't necessarily useful. The intense pain from inflammation is not worth it for a simple bruise or strain since there is no chance for infection. An ice controlled inflammation has the same mild benefits as just letting it rest except that ice works as a great way for relieving this kind of pain. On top of this, the relief of pain also allows you to function more efficiently. http://medicine.ucalgary.ca/about/inflammationpaulkubes

Minecraft is crack... but I'm finally burning out just a tad. While on my trip with hubby, I dreamed about that stupid game lol. I play it all the friggin time and I don't even make any outstanding pretty/cool/inspiring things like other people. I just grind.
Grinding soothes me on many games. I don't know why, lol, but I love it.

Anyhow.... the trip wasn't that great. Hubby craves darkness and silence. He went to one thing or another and got his hours and never returned. He stayed in bed for the most part. Which means I basically slept for 4 days.
I crave light. The brighter the better (I have four lights burning in my 10 by 13 foot bedroom and each has a 100 wat bulb). I keep my lights on from the moment I wake until I go to sleep. Lesser lights make me very cranky. I think I may actually cry when I run out of real bulbs and have to buy those new things.

It took us 16 hours to drive down there. I drove for the first 12 before I had to have hubby take over. And, as always, I kept waking up, terrified he was about to kill us
I drove the entire 17 hours back in one shot.

We did walk to Cafe de Monde (sp) once which was really good but I was in too much pain to enjoy it fully. My back was killing me from being in bed the entire time and when we went to walk it, I kept having spasms of pain.
We also went to Commanders Palace which was as awesome as I recall. But the water down there sucks. It's way too clorinated and you can taste it in the fountain drinks. I drank two Melon martinis instead and almost didn't make it back to the room without falling asleep on the ground We were going to return to Commanders Palace for dinner (we went for lunch) but I couldn't even imagine drinking another martini and hubby was wanting to go for their sampler menu which comes with different wines. Ugh.

Hubby only grumbled at me once during the trip. Well, he grumbled more, but only once that got under my skin.

I'm a smoker. Deal with it, love of my life. I went outside for a smoke just a couple times a day. Then he goes and brought up Atlanta (several years ago), when I disappeared for several hours after I was informed my kids had been taken by the State. I tried to kill myself but my blade was much too dull. It was a horrendous trip (Atlanta) and he's never recovered. Now, every time we go anywhere, he usually brings it up at least once and tells me my actions nearly destroyed our marriage and if anything like that happens again, we'd be over.
This time, when he said it, I got angry. I kept it to myself, of course BUT, the next time he mentions it I'm going to tell him, point blank, that I never want to hear of it again. Would he have been happier to find my body on the streets of Atlanta? That would've ended our marriage too. I WAS DISTRAUGHT!!!! Get over it already. Or, at least, keep it to yourself!

My rants are that my keyboard is dying. Or rather, the "0" and my Shift are dying.
I also have to drive a couple hours away to have lunch with hubby and his daughter. Ugh. On Black Friday. This is going to be lovely. We're eating Indian food though and the one and only time I've eaten there it was pretty awesome. I just hope it's not a mad house.

Grinding soothes me on many games. I don't know why, lol, but I love it.
Pointless grind is good for the soul, I've had some of my best painting ideas while playing Minecraft. I've had many an interesting conversation out loud with myself in that game, too.

Unless it's really bad, the body can take care of it. If you've broken your leg in half or injured your back, sure put ice on it. If you've sprained your ankle or something, I say let the body take care of itself. We have defenses for those exact reasons, otherwise our species would have died out long ago.

Rant: I run out of things to talk about to people so easily. That super hot girl, already can't think of anything to say to her now. We talked for a bit the other day during break, but when we see each other briefly while working I'm just like ".... hey" *pretend to be really busy* lol

Same thing with the other people I've started talking to a bit.

Also the girl gets jealous when I talk to other girls. Which is good coz it makes her want me more, but I end up not being able to resist either, and start flirting with her again. Doesn't help she's the only one I can really talk to properly.
I end up making myself want her even more while trying to make her want me more and trying to not care as much.

      It is futile.

But then of course she always says something to break my heart. But there's literally nothing I can do about it so I'll have to wait this out and go along with this thing.

Rum, ahhh, a man after my own heart I thought I was the only one who enjoyed grinding lol

I never understood the whole icing/heating thing. I tend to take pain meds and just let the injury be. But I also now have chronic tendonosis or somesuch with my right ankle. I injured my ankle this past March or so while helping hubby move and lift heavy boxes. the ankle hurt greatly, for months, but never swelled. Now-a-days, the pain is almost completely gone most of the time but when I point my foot or move it a certain way something in my ankle still snaps and grinds. you can actually see something along the thin bone right above the ankle "jump". *shrug* I can still walk on it and sit on it, so I'm fine. It is interesting though lol

No rants here, but I just woke up an hour ago Minecrack sucked me back in
I have a weird rave though. I have a "pet" stink bug. I noticed him 3 days ago living on my stunted Angel Trumpet plant. I took the plant down yesterday to fluff its soil (there HAS to be a proper word for that lol) and trim some dead leaves. The bug held on for dear life as if I was creating a tornado I looked up a moment ago, and there's the big. Hanging upside down from a leaf to be closer to the lamp beneath it.
I dislike stinkbugs, but he's not bothering me. He's not swarming and never leaves the plant. So long as the bug continues doing that, he'll be fine until Spring.

I worried he might be eating my plant so I googled the bug. They go through a sort of hibernation period during the colder months. They neither mate nor eat from fall to spring.
They usually release an odorless smell to other bugs, saying, "hey, come stay with me, I found a great place to crash", but this guy seems to be enjoying his solitude. If others show up, though, they'll have to go freeze outside. (They only stink if you threaten them and not everyone can smell the odor).

      Hope everyone is doing well.

Almost all OTC pain drugs have anti-inflammatory properties though, so that kinda does the same thing as using ice.

      Great job Wishful!!!

Khh, yeah. I always take Ibprofen if muscle/joint pain/injury is involved. It's what I was always told to take, so whether I see any inflamation or not, I just take two, as needed for the pain.
If the pain is really bad, I'll use something like bengay or one of those hot patches you apply directly to the skin. I don't know if they do any good, but it soothes me
I use Tylenol for other pains (headaches mostly). or, if my arthritis is really acting up, I take 2 of each because tylenol and ibrofen seem to work well together.

i had awesome dreams today. (I just woke up lol). A lot of them were minecraft inspired (building things and tunneling to escape zombies )
But I also had a god-mode dream that was as good and frustrating as ever. Those dreams are sort of like the game Civilization. "I'm" not in the dream, but I create towns and cities with just my mind. The problem with those dreams, is that someone/s else is doing the same thing and they always become more militarily advanced than me early in the dream and they start encroaching on my territory.
In another dream, civilization had ended and I was scrambling around looking for bottled water and cigarettes That actually might have been part of the minecraft dream...

My rants are that I woke up stuffy as ever, my cokes are flat and I'm out of Celexa as of yesterday. I can't pick up anything until tomorrow. I'm curious to see if my period will be unbearable this month. I just got over it, so I've a way to go yet. I didn't miss a single dose last month and my period wasn't painful at all. I had missed a couple days of my meds the last 2 months and the pain was almost excrutiating. But I missed the does about a week before I started (not 3 and a half or so weeks like now).

Heh, the bug's still chilling on my plant lol. He seems to prefer that one leaf above the light, but sometimes he'll switch from the bottom to the top lol. Right now, it looks like he's grooming sometimes I think I'm too easily entertained

      **EDIT**
New rant. Grrr... it's only been 2 days without my Celexa but these adrenalin surges are driving me batty They're also putting e to sleep, but that could actually be a good thing seeing how I have to make a trip tomorrow to have my sons ID renewed.

A rave is that I feel like such a rebel I hid 6 skeins of yarn throughout walmart. It's going to take at least that much to finish my project and I'm certain the color will be discontinued soon (it's a Fall blend). I hid 2 behind some very large tents, 2 behind a comforter sets and the last two behind a plate set. All were located at floor level. I hope they're not discovered before I can buy them (I can only afford 2 a week).

I've been feeling so dizzy all day, I literally couldn't concentrate at school and it was even hard to walk straight sometimes.
But I'm feeling better now, so I guess I was just feeling a bit ill or something.

I don't have school next week, but I'll be working at an office in town.
I think it's called work experience? Not sure though.
Throughout this school year, every wednesday we have to work at an office for about 4 hours.
Which is totally fine by me, because 4 hours a week isn't really that bad. But next week I'll be working from 8.30am until 5.30pm.
      These days are going to be so long and boring. I'm really not looking forward to next week ugh. D;
And alot of my friends work at a school which means they'll be working from 9.00am until 3.30pm and on wednesday from 9.00am until 12.05pm.
I'll be the only one who will be working for such a long time comparing to the others in my class.

My friends are willing to travel abroad either to Germany or the Netherlands to see of mice & men live. So I might be seeing my favorite band after all.
If our parents can drive us there, but it's a three hour drive. So there's also a chance they might say no, 'cause it's too far. But I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
