Exclamation Low-Level Lucid Dream, Or Simply DREAMING of Lucid Dreaming?

I have just awaken from probably the strangest dream I have had in a while. I believe I just had a non-lucid dream that was entirely about lucid dreaming.

I did at least 10 reality checks throughout this dream, and after each one I would tell myself that I realized that I was dreaming, but I still seemed to play into the dreams "plot," as if I didn't realize that now I could do anything that I wanted!

In fact, here's a phone conversation I had with a friend within this dream:

Someone hands me a phone and I find myself talking to Logan. He says, "Hey, man, what's going on?" in his trademark voice. I reply," Nothing much. Just having a dream at the moment. In fact, you're just a part of my imagination, Logan. A dream character." I do another nose plug reality check. "Unless, of course, my dreams are somehow connected to reality."

      "Riiiiiighht." He replies.

Towards the end, for some reason, I wanted to wake up. So I would try, find myself in bed, do a reality check, then realize that I was still dreaming. I would do this 4-5 times (kinda scary). Finally, I laid back and asked myself, "How can I make myself wake up?" I shook my head violently until I found myself looking at my ceiling in a much more stable environment. A reality check confirms that I am now awake.

Now, if I were truly lucid, I wouldn't WANT to wake up, right? I would follow through with my plan to stabilize, clarify, then do the things I had intended!

What just happened? Does anyone know?

Is this a sign that i've been doing something wrong, or am I just getting closer to having "real" lucid dreams?

      Thanks,

      LD

Well, I don't know if something is wrong, but i'v had dreams similar to this before, so your not alone.

There is such thing as being semi-lucid, or having a low-level lucid dream. In these, one is usually rather lethargic and passive about the fact that they're asleep, and they don't realize the full extent of this. It's really up to you to decide if you were aware, or just acting like you knew you were dreaming.

I've had plenty of dreams like this. It's definitely a sign that your mind is on lucid dreaming, so even though you might not have had awareness (or as much as you'd hoped), you're getting close!

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Glad to see this. I've been having some recall success when using WBTB the past couple of nights (or mornings). This dream is one of its results. I'm sure if I keep using MILD/WBTB every night I'll eventually have some "true" lucids again.

      Thanks!

That happens to me all the time. I realize I'm dreaming but I still feel like I'm just "along for the ride."

I want to be 100% aware, aware as I am while I'm typing this, and remember all the things I'm supposed to do once I get into a dream.

UPDATE: This morning I continued using WBTB/MILD, and I believe I may have witnessed myself enter straight into a dream. However, I mistook it for an extremely vivid visualization and never took the time to reality check, so I eventually got swept into the dream unaware.

I still consider these good results, though. Much better than I've been having doing anything else. I’m remembering 2-3 dreams every night, and every dream has some portion having something to do with lucids. I feel as if I could start having frequent lucid dreams pretty soon. I’ll post a new thread of what I’m doing every night to have this soon in case anyone is interested.

your should also learn about the different layers of dreaming. I think think what you were having was a layer 2 lucid dream where you gain the sense that you are dreaming but you are still ingulfed in the dreams narrative. the difference between a fake lucid and a semi lucid dream is the fact that you actually FEEL like you are in a dream but you don't have full consciousness. so if it was a semi lucid you were having, then you would have a feeling of consciousness but if it were a fake lucid, you would know as soon as you woke up that you was completely unaware while dreaming about being lucid. there are 5 different layers ranging from 0 to 4. layer 2 is where people have semi lucid dreams.

I had the same thing. I RC a lot and praised myself after five minutes for lasting five minutes , but I didn't feel lucid, I didn't even feel like I was that person(which was me) that was having a LD!! So what was that? a LD or not? I doubt it was, just a very convincing dream about LDing, or are all or lucid dreams only very convincing dreams about Lding? I'm worried
