Nfri's Contest of the Month May 2015 [suggestion]

I want to hold a friendly contest for better motivation in course of May. Unlike classic competition (which I look forward to), it's not focused about dream control and lucid activities. It'll be less time consuming, because posting DJ is optional.

      Rules

      - There is no need for registration
      - Continuously post your results at least once every 4 days in the contest's thread which starts on 1. May
      - No cheating!
      - Use healthy self-criticism
      - Posting DJ is optional

      Points

      1. Wbtbs

      - It must be some activity that makes you more awake and aware from the usual groggy state after awakening (walking, sitting and reading, eating, stretching...)
      - 1 wbtb = 1 point
      - limit of wbtbs is 2 per night (max 2 points)

      2. Dream recall

      - dreams must be taped (written by hand, pc, audio record...)
      - 1 recalled dream fragment = 0,5 point (If the fragments are from the same dream period - maximum of fragments is 2 fragments per dream period)
      - 1 non lucid dream = 1 point ( memory action or series of actions in one dream period)

      3. Lucid dreams

      - 1 lucid dream = 5 points ( If it's series of DEILDs, it's still 5 points total. Advantage for Deilders is in lucid dream time category)

      4. Lucid dream time

      - 5 minutes = 1 point (<5m= 1 point, <10m 2points, <15m = 3 points.... 42minutes = 9 points)
      - be sober in estimating the time spended in lucid dream (I don't want to see: ''OMG It was like ETERNITIY!'')

This is just a draft of the contest so all the suggestions are WELCOME!

WBTB needs to lead to a LD for points?

      Always glad to see competitions!

      My comments:

+ fragments can sometimes be hard to assign to sleep periods. For example, I've been moving away from night-time physical journaling to only mental journaling, and so without checking time it can be almost impossible to know what sleep period it is.

+ some people are dedicated "mini-WBTBers": quick pee, set intention, right back to sleep. Even 10 minutes for some can mean up for hours of insomnia

It's nice to see a simplified scoring scheme!

I'll probably participate! Too bad I'll be traveling in May and heavily jet-lagged for the second half. But I need a goal-setting intention boost, so this looks like just the thing! Thanks for doing this!

Wbtb fixed and about fragments I think it can be recognized if it was part of the same dream or not. If you cannot see any connection about the two fragments, then it's probably from different dream. I see this limit helpful, because you cannot exceed points of one full recalled dream.

Focusing on the time ongoing in a lucid dream rise awareness, so I think it's positive habit.

"Dream" does not equal "sleep period". I agree that theme, location, "feel," and other factors can be used to determine if the fragments are from the same dream or not. But limiting # of fragments to 2 per waking is like limiting the number of dreams to 1 per waking, it seems arbitrary and it places a limit on something (recall) that should be encouraged to grow through ever-increasing effort.

In fact the way I have done it personally in the past in the other competitions is that a dream is either recalled as a (potentially series of) fragment(s) or as a whole dream: but every scene that is not common with other scenes or collections of scenes is scored (but only one dream/theme once: either one fragment, or one dream). 5 fragments for what is clearly the same dream get scored as one fragment.

By "dream period" do you mean simply "dream?"

Yes, It needs to be specified better: By dream period (I see this word period is confusing, my bad) I mean 1 dream, so per 1 sleep/rem period you can have as many points as your dreams recalled = It's not limited fragments points per waking but per dream.
But fragments from the same dream are limited by total 1 point that it can't exceed 1 point for the total dream.

Great AnotherDreamer! It'll be casual and laid back contest, with no real prices. It's rather friendly comparing results.

Before falling asleep, you always enter hypnagogic state, but it's hard to remember. Try to raise your awareness by simple meditation - focus on observing your thoughs and feelings before you falling asleep.

I'll definitely be joining in. I know that there is no registration, but the more comments and people that say that they are joining, the more join.

I am gonna be in japan after may 29, so I will prolly miss the last couple days.

I'm not expert meditator, but I recommend give it at least 10 minutes to have some impact. Then let yourself fall asleep. Try to focus on a doubting though that this is not waking reality, but a dream.
