    1. Losing Teeth…or Keys…

      by , 01-01-2000 at 07:01 AM
Morning of January 1, 2000. Saturday.

I seem to be losing some teeth at first but that is not the case. Loose keys from the computer keyboard had somehow been in my mouth but I am not sure of how many (and I do not question how they would be there in the first place, though perhaps I had been blowing them dry after washing them as I had in real life recently and they somehow flew up into my mouth). Logic dictates that the individual keys would be too large to be mistaken for teeth in real life for the most part. In the last part of my dream, I am unsure whether any actual teeth of mine had come out, though it seems possible.

This is slightly different than my usual losing teeth dreams, which I have had a few times per month since childhood. Trying to infer to me that losing teeth in dreams has any meaning relevant to waking life (other than in cases of literal prescience or concerns about a trip to the dentist) will be meant with a blank stare.

Losing teeth in a dream is not much different than the falling mechanism in physical hypnopompia, which also has no meaning other than the biological shifting of consciousness. How difficult can it be to understand something so obvious? The unconscious self cannot speak through the physical body, and so when undue attention is incidentally focused on a mouth that is not even there (other than by illusion), naturally the fictional teeth would “fall out” (or be perceived as doing such).

To further prove this, consider what has happened in this dream. Typing on a computer keyboard and speaking are both related to communication. The sleeping physical body cannot talk or communicate coherently in unconsciousness. It is also common to not be able to type correctly on a computer keyboard in a dream, which is also unrelated to waking life. It is simply because the dream self does not have neural access to critical thinking skills or defined time orientation.

    2. The Three Christmas Tortoises

      by , 12-25-1999 at 06:25 PM
Morning of December 25, 1999. Saturday.

Reading time: 1 min 9 sec. Readability score: 55.

In a semi-lucid state, I allow myself to move into a desert landscape, with a focus on Christmas. I allow myself to correlate with my dream self’s illusory physicality. Zsuzsanna walks ahead of me, to my left (our sleeping orientation). A star also shines in the evening sky, representing the essence of my conscious self identity that is still extant in sleep.

I contemplate the story of the three wise men. However, only a couple of camels appear later. The Christmas story is skewed, and we are trekking to the Roman Coliseum instead of the traditional Nativity scene. I do not attempt to fix the reactive representations of my vague thoughts.

Three tortoises are slowly crawling on their journey. I consider this is an interesting story but then decide it does not make much sense. I contemplate how the tortoises may have appeared to represent my slower biological processes as I sleep.

They reach the Roman Coliseum. One of the tortoises lifts their head to study the height of the Roman Coliseum, and a question mark appears above its head. (The curious impossibility of a question mark suddenly floating above a character’s head, as if in a comic strip, has occurred in previous dreams. I call this the contemplation of the liminal space enigma, which is autosymbolism for the dream self questioning its separation from the waking life identity. It occurs in many other forms, such as jigsaw puzzle pieces near a doorway or the presence of spies or detectives as preconscious or emerging consciousness avatars.)

I walk around a wall and vaguely discern the Nativity scene as I wake. (Walking around a wall was a more common factor in the waking process when I was very young.)

    3. Once a Robot

      by , 12-20-1999 at 06:20 PM
Morning of December 20, 1999. Monday. (My 39th birthday.)

I am the robot (of mostly black metal but red feet) that I got for Christmas in 1969 (from my father), except full-sized. I sometimes stop and slowly turn my upper body to either left or right each time in the way that the robot did. It seems to be late at night.

I cannot seem to produce lasers from my chest when I want, or have it open at times. I see lights flashing now and then, at first thinking my “chest lights” are flashing upon someone’s windows (with closed curtains), but one set seems to come from a police car that had stopped near me, possibly to investigate what I am doing. However, I stealthily start pulling large but light metal parts off of me (my upper arms first) and leave them behind as I walk home, only now remembering more of my conscious self identity, and not getting into trouble either, even though one part I drop makes a very loud clanging noise. Looking back to my left, one “robot part” is actually a large open end wrench, but bent in the middle at about a 140 degree angle. I consider that I might need this to remove the rest of my apparent costume, but decide not to risk it so as not to look as if I am meandering or up to mischief.

As this dream was semi-lucid, I am well aware of the officer in the police car being the preconscious avatar of this dream for possible RAS modulation. However, I do not attempt to modulate any of my dream’s dynamics.

    4. Domino Park

      by , 12-19-1999 at 07:03 AM
Morning of December 19, 1999. Sunday.

Zsuzsanna and I have our own land, it seems, which is somewhat like a public park otherwise. Access is across a somewhat shaky rope and plank bridge, seemingly over a “bottomless” ravine that does not seem that feasible or safe to use on a regular basis. The directional orientation of the whole area eventually changes, becoming perpendicular to its previous layout (for example, even the long cliff, running east/west seems to change to being north/south), and causes me to focus on, and vaguely puzzle over that more than other earlier aspects as I know it is the “same” location, though at that point I seem disembodied or floating high up over the region. I am not sure what town or area is on the other side of the ravine in either direction - though it is not that defined and seems a wholly fictional place anyway.

We are mostly indulging in lovemaking, though I am wary of people watching (even with binoculars from the other side of the ravine - though they may be seeking to view something else, perhaps looking for rare birds). I am not as concerned about others using the bridge even though it is a strong possibility, I would guess. The “buildings”, which seem somewhat incomplete, are made up of very large dominoes, at least three feet long, and some of the structures are not realistic for habitation, and there is a slight awareness of what to do concerning the fact that there do not appear to be roofs on any building. I try to remain behind a randomly arranged set of domino walls, but then realize the view in the other directions are wide open. Some attempts are made to change the arrangement, in which case the dominoes are not that hard to move. The immediate area mostly appears as random single walls (single dominoes) at slightly different angles. There is no actual confrontation with the public.

When I was much younger, I sometimes built structures out of dominoes (only in my room when living in Cubitis), such as isolated staircases up and through a hallway and small rooms with roofs within a larger “house” or “castle”, which I found enjoyment and even mystery in. In fact, I enjoyed it more than any sessions with Lincoln Logs or Lego. I had a few sets of dragon dominoes, though some of a slightly different shade and a few that seemed to be from another set or company (though most had the dragon design, others with a flower-like pattern).

    5. Space Trek 1999?

      by , 09-13-1999 at 09:13 PM
Morning of September 13, 1999. Monday.

It is my wife’s birthday and mysterious packages arrive in the mail, mostly all about the same size. However, we are living at my sister Marilyn’s house. Many of the items remain on the porch.

Over time, I see that they are rather small dioramas from the television show “Space 1999”. For a short time though, I think that one section looks more like the bridge from “Star Trek: The Next Generation”. The model people are very small, not even an inch high. I contemplate on whether or not the computers work in these small models, but that seems unlikely. However, I remember that September 13th is the 256th day of the year, which relates to the number of computer codes (in decimal) for the number of bytes available (though the span is actually 0 to 255, not 1 to 256) and the first range of hex codes up to FFh. This seems significant for some reason, and I am trying to understand how there could be more than 256 days in a year, “day 0” being the start of the new year.

Then things go a bit more hazy. The whole house seems filled with incomplete pieces of spaceship models as parts of dioramas, mostly to the same small scale, and I am not sure who is sending them. I do not think that my wife is that interested, especially as there is not that much room to set them up properly. I learn that one diorama is indeed the open-top bridge view of the Enterprise (from “Star Trek: The Next Generation”) while another is an open-top view of the Eagle from “Space 1999”, or rather, just a smaller section of the inside. They seem to be in “communication” somehow. The Captain Picard character is actually glued to his seat in the model (in sitting position as if in the middle of giving an order), but I think some are free to move a bit. Even though he is less than an inch high, he seems to be “alive” at one point and asking how he can leave his chair. He seems to represent everyman and, even though he is interesting in exploring space and doing his “job” is literally glued to his captain’s chair and unable to leave the porch of the house. I almost “feel sorry” for him even though he is only a less-than-an-inch-high plastic man. It seems strange to have models - as in the back of my mind, I would think these figures get tired of standing or sitting around so long solely to “entertain” their “captors”.
    6. Stopping a storm

      by , 12-17-1998 at 08:50 AM
Morning of December 17, 1998. Thursday.

This was a longer dream of a storm which was fairly vivid. I have the ability to stop the storm by finding a certain bow and arrow, apparently with “magical” properties. Upon finding them, the bow and arrow are transparent and seem to be made of hail or ice at first and are very light in weight. Upon closer examination they sometimes seem more like “spinning water” or some sort of spiritual force. (Ice has always been a fairly common feature in dreams along with fire and water, and it usually brings more lucidity.)

The storm seems to be a result of a giant of some kind, which I bring down with the arrow and later crush it (him) to pieces. My wife is also a positive force with me. There is also some sort of whirlwind in the sky - with faces of ancient warriors (including Geronimo / Goyahkla and Crazy Horse) - yet they seem to be calming the weather rather than increasing the forceful nature of the whirlwind which they are part of. I am given more gifts and “tools” relating to controlling (or calming) the weather when the need may arise in the future.
    7. False Alarm (No Burglar)

      by , 06-23-1998 at 12:23 PM
Morning of June 23, 1998. Tuesday.

I am not sure of the time but the front door to our apartment is rattling as if someone is trying to come in.

I carefully check it out and open our front door. Our (real-life) landlord is there doing something with a ladder in the hallway of the apartment house.

I say, “Oh, it’s you. I thought someone was trying to break in here.”

A ladder usually represents an autosymbolic precursor for the return to full consciousness, which is something I clearly understood even at four years of age. The hallway setting is mostly incidental but still represents a “conduit” associated with the waking process in a similar manner as an alley.

Either our landlord or an unknown intruder would still represent RAS personification, which represents the preconscious state. Still, as our landlord, it would suggest that I perceive my emergent consciousness as the “owner” of the dream state (at least to some degree) whereas burglars (or unexpected or unwanted intruders) suggest that I am not non-lucidly controlling my dream to the extent as in this scenario. However, in non-lucid dreams, intruders or imposers are sometimes more assertive and knowledgeable than my temporary dream self, which confirms the (precursory) essence of the conscious mind my dream self lacks and of which the preconscious only has to a limited degree. Being near a doorway also represents being closer to the waking point in many cases (though can also serve as induction into apex lucidity and full awareness and control in the dream state).

Checking a door to see if it is locked in a dream (or an event that implies potential intrusion) is usually RAS (reticular activating system) mediation, sometimes caused by a real environmental noise at the time of the dream and sometimes with preconscious concern over whether it is locked - as I once discovered that our door was indeed unlocked after getting up after a waking start from a similar dream as this one. This is otherwise a common type of waking process autosymbolism, which I label “doorway waking symbolism” (though remember that dreams are not symbolic in the way of popular misconception, and that this refers to the dream state, not waking life, and my dream’s dynamics in real-life context are literal here).

    8. Casket of Yellow Candles

      by , 06-02-1998 at 12:02 PM
Morning of June 2, 1998. Tuesday.

Reading time: 54 sec. Readability score: 57.

I deliberately step into an interesting street scene, but during a sequence of more quickly changing settings when the human forms have not stabilized. (Dream characters usually transform at the rate of about once per second in the first dreaming stage of the sleep cycle, until I allow them to stabilize, though they also sometimes melt into and out of each other during these stages.)

A group of East Indian men (most from about thirty to forty years of age) approaches, some in traditional clothes, some in suits. They are carrying what I think is a casket. Moving closer, hovering in an incorporeal form while maintaining vestibular system correlation, I see the lid is now off. The “casket” contains long yellow candles (emerging consciousness color) aligned in the box lengthwise end to end. One of them alights, and I hear a male ahead of the group say, “Oh, look at that,” more in wonder and respect than surprise or alarm, and I wake softly, feeling alert and well. There is an essence of magic, though not “real” magic, only the knowledge of the dream state and how to mediate and modulate it.

The “lighting a candle” process is a thread (both in infra-awareness and lucidity as here) that I have used since early childhood to more clearly define my conscious self’s existence, especially with incidental sleep apnea, though which is quite rare and is not a factor in this case.

    9. From Another Time and Hovering

      by , 06-01-1998 at 12:01 PM
      Morning of June 1, 1998.

Reading time: 1 min 47 sec. Readability score: 62.

Some common factors occurred in these segments of June 1, 1998. I travel back in time to see Zsuzsanna as she was growing up. She is with her mother in a park. In one scene, I become annoyed at some unknown people. I rise in the air and hover above the ground to express my annoyance. There are no hostile reactions. I do not become lucid even though this type of natural vestibular system correlation often triggers lucidity. (I have always deliberately flown easily in both non-lucid and lucid dreams since earliest memory, an average of more than once per sleep cycle all my life, though even in non-lucid dreams, I typically see it as natural and automatic. In this case, it is somewhat similar to when I experience bliss when I find myself in sleep paralysis and try to increase my focus, which usually causes waves of pleasure and a rising sensation. The difference is that I am aware of my real physical body being horizontal. From the time when I was very young when in sleep paralysis, I have rolled my eyes up to focus on the center of my forehead. It increases the buzzing sensations and “rolling waves” from head to toe and back that bring a sense of bliss. The additional presence I feel is always of love. I find it baffling how the majority experience the opposite when in sleep paralysis. It is one of the public concepts about the subject of dreams that do not add up when focusing on my own lifelong experiences.)

In another scene, I am in a boat traveling over the ocean. At least two monkeys (male and female) live in an abandoned Noah’s Ark on the beach. It is much smaller than it should be, not much bigger than a houseboat. My skiff sits on the sand, a few feet from the shoreline.

A boat is typically a reactive representation of the physical body when vestibular system correlation is present, not that much different than unaided flight, though does not always trigger lucidity in response. In one case in 1978, I tried to maintain control of a lucid dream, though my body ended up on a floating board, as vestibular system correlation become more linked to the awareness of my real physical body as being in bed. In a dream from 2013, my body is perceived as a “ship” to help people escape, though I eventually swim and slide through tunnels (a common dream event). In another dream from 2016, I am aware of a sailboat in which the sails are my lungs and seem to correlate with my breathing.

    10. Pirates movie precognition (this one is really funny)

      by , 05-23-1998 at 11:23 AM
Morning of May 23, 1998. Saturday.

I decided to look over some of my many smaller, older dream journals (ones where I first wrote only a brief outline to write of in more detail in other sources, such as larger notebooks) and just threw this one onto the scanner as is. The original 1998 entry is exactly as it is here from May 23rd, 1998 and I had not even looked at it in several years. See images below. The entry reads (the printed data being May 23 1998 Saturday 143 / 222 Week 21) - this was also recurring a few times:

“Long, vivid dream about a pirate movie. There are many details and there is comedy in some parts, drama in others. It is about a sort of feminine male pirate and a tough, older bearded one and their misadventures in an almost science-fiction-like plot.
I enjoy the movie although it seems very impersonal.”

An additional scan from another part of that dream/dream set:

“In one part I go down into a part of one building and am near one gateway by The Land of the Dead. One asks me what I am doing there since I am alive…”

Looking at my more extensive notes, I see that I was writing a fair amount (almost essay-like) on “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl”.

There is only one little problem. The movie, as I understand it, was not even thought of until 2001…and was released on 9th of July, 2003 (USA)…but there is a bit more, as, precognition often comes in layers, linked to several things at once, even when relating to many years ahead.

The most hilarious connection is the “feminine pirate” reference. Both my wife and myself (only within the last few years - as we did not see the movie until 2008) thought that Johnny Depp was far more feminine in that role as a “male pirate” than a teenage girl would have been - to a point of being near-surreal in its absurdity.

Anyway, in the pirates movie, the pirates were “undead” (which I would not call zombies, by the way). In another Johnny Depp movie (we have not seen “Corpse Bride”), there is the “Land of the Dead” exactly as I wrote it in 1998 regarding the other “movie”.

The “Corpse Bride” movie summary reminds me quite strongly of “Castle of Blood (1963)” / “Danza macabra” (original title), easily the most influential and most “lucid” movie of my childhood, “Gay Purr-ee” (1962) being the second-most influential.

      Now, pay attention, very closely:

Johnny Depp says (see page) on (the Land of the Dead) “Well, Tim explained it really beautifully earlier, and so I’ll butcher it but he’ll fix it for me. It’s the idea that in life there is this kind of constant fear and obsession with death and the mystery of what death is and all of that, to the point of where people are unbelievably tense about arriving there, even though we all know we’re going to arrive there at some point. In fact, the land of the living in this thing is sort of super uptight and grey and heavy as a place and going down to the land of the dead where it could be heaven or hell or it could be purgatory, and it’s like 1920s Paris. Flappers and craziness. I thought that it was pretty amazing.“

And here from the information on imdb (on "Gay Purr-ee”):

“The film supposedly takes place in the 1890s, but the montage of painters doing portraits of Mewsette includes Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso. Van Gogh died in 1890, while Picasso would not exhibit in Paris until 1900 (and would not paint in the style depicted until the 1920s).”

    11. Atypical Post Office Visit (precognitive)

      by , 05-08-1998 at 11:08 AM
Morning of May 8, 1998. Friday.

I am in a vivid dream, though not fully lucid at any point. I enter the post office south of our home (while it is seemingly closed) that I have only been to a couple times in real life. I apparently have a special key to open different post office boxes and drawers (recurring). For some reason I never see it as stealing (likely because of my awareness of it being a dream at one level).

I eventually find a stack of small orange packages. There is a set of large earrings and a necklace in one package. The jewelry is round and golden with an unusual and unfamiliar design oriented toward the center. Our surname appears in the newspaper at one point and I contemplate if this is because someone had “reported” me for having the key as there is something about being “caught on camera” in the post office.

This afternoon, in real life, I actually did end up going to the post office to pick up a completely unexpected prize my wife Zsuzsanna won; a baby diary and an instant one-use camera. Her name had been in the newspaper the day before (though we had not seen the newspaper until later today and did not know about the prize until later today regarding a pick-up ticket in our mailbox). Although she did not win any jewelry, the design of the jewelry was the exact same pattern as the picture on the camera (which I myself had not seen before).

    12. Talking About a Dream from a Don Knotts Movie

      by , 05-03-1998 at 11:03 AM
Morning of May 3, 1998. Sunday.

In my vivid dream, I meet Don Knotts. Curiously, he is young and assertive and not like typical characters he has played in movies. I tell him how much I enjoyed his movie “The Incredible Mr. Limpet”, especially the scene where he is dreaming and the stealth bomber transforms into a manta ray (possibly one of the eeriest surreal scenes I have seen in any movie, and for me, very nostalgic). We remain in cheerful conversation as I wake. (I enjoyed the mood of this dream very much.)

Format of dream: Water induction (implied) to rendering of preconscious avatar (Don Knotts) to the waking autosymbolism of vestibular system correlation as the flight-related event, also liminally associated with the surreal transformations that often occur in dreams. Of course, the fact that I am describing a dream in my dream is a dream state indicator.

I explain this dream type further in “Dreams of Type PRECONAV-VSCPCEL, 01-15”.

    13. Canoe Game

      by , 04-08-1998 at 10:08 AM
Morning of April 8, 1998. Wednesday.

My wife Zsuzsanna and I own some sort of large game, which is as long as one side of the Gellibrand Street kitchen (the side with the internal door, the north wall), where a toy canoe goes across a conveyor-belt-like mechanism that simulates a journey by river where you have to gather a few things worth points as well as go around areas that come up from trapdoors in the “river” (playing field), such as (toy) alligators. I suppose in some ways it is like a real-life mechanical version of a computer game. The game seems mostly made of plastic with metal features. Gears cause different things to come up out of the simulated water imagery.

    14. Kite Treasures

      by , 03-24-1998 at 09:24 AM
Morning of March 24, 1998. Tuesday.

Dream #: 11,418-02. Reading time (optimized): 1 min.

I experienced a vivid semi-lucid dream. Carol (older half-sister on my mother’s side) was with me in an unknown mostly undefined location, though possibly an ambiguous composite of the Cubitis driveway (Florida, America) and a part of Clayfield (Queensland, Australia). I am flying a large kite in the morning, and there is a peaceful awareness. Eventually, I somehow bring down from the sky, a fancy and valuable bed frame, mostly shiny red parts of the headboard and frame at first. I later bring down two sections for the foot of the bed. As such, it seems there are more treasures in the sky which kites can be used to manually bring down somehow, sometimes in the (temporary) place of the kite that then likely needs to be replaced (though sometimes connected to the kite or within a box kite).

This dream is humorous on one level as well as beautiful. My less-aware dream self is linking to the potential of active conscious intelligence, and so my waking mind subliminally sends down a bed to give reference to the fact that I am sleeping and dreaming at the time - like an act of playful sarcasm from the waking self to the dream self. At the same time, my dream self subliminally perceives waking life (and conscious intelligence) as a treasure.

With two other dreams; one was about changing computer programs internally (relative to conditional jumps changed beneficially) and another about sorting out stamps in a collection (my attention to stamp collecting from 1970-1978).

    15. Contaminated Reservoir

      by , 01-04-1998 at 07:04 AM
Morning of January 4, 1998. Sunday.

I am near a water reservoir in an unfamiliar location which has apparently been contaminated by army tanks and jeeps somehow ending up in it (though I am not sure of how this had happened). A man who reminds me of Bill Gates (and who may be him) starts warning people about this situation and says that people could start dying. However, the problem is supposedly being solved (in a seemingly timely manner) by putting large plastic tarpaulins over the inside walls of the reservoir (though that does not seem logical as I do not think water could properly filter through them). I help with the task and it is seemingly working. In an additional dream or offset of this sequence, I am dancing and chanting in a very positive and cheerful mood (commonly recurring).

In dreams, water has been validated for me to represent sleep. The condition of water in a dream relates directly to the dynamics of sleep in real time. Water getting lower over time represents the natural waking transition, a scene which has occurred at least once virtually every night for the past fifty years. In this case, during the waking transition, there is even the additional tarpaulin association (dream sign) with bed sheets. Translated directly: “The water is contaminated by the presence of army tanks and jeeps in it though using tarpaulins to line the reservoir will filter the water” becomes, “Sleep is presently somewhat restless with conflicting thoughts towards waking but by relaxing more within comfortable clean sheets a bit longer, sleep will be better.”
