Do you enjoy having total control (playing god) in your dream?

I'm probably going to have to elaborate a bit on this, so here goes.

In the LDs that I've had, I find that not viewing anything as an obstacle gets boring after a while. To me, creating people or objects is also a bit boring, as is trying to blow up entire planets with my mind. But I enjoy scaling walls, running down sloping curves of buildings with my feet digging into the side as if there was some resistance, and pretending that I'm not fully confident. This doesn't mean I'm unconfident when it comes to actual dream control, but I just enjoy acting as if I'm not the all-powerful creator of the dream, and presenting my dream self as imperfect.

Which side of the dream control spectrum do you most often fit into:

      1) The all-powerful, omnipotent side where you enjoy playing god and doing absolutely anything.

      2) The "character" (for lack of a better word) side, where you enjoy being more of an average person, whether you have insanely awesome powers or not.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

#2. In my training, I rarely use powers at all (unless they are powers that help me become more mobile, like the ones you describe).
I like to simply play and explore within the world my mind has already created.

Right now I'm working on frequenting more LD opportunities, dream length, vividness and control. Once or if this becomes
more effortless, perhaps then I'll play God a few times. ^^

I don't really enjoy being godly because I feel like it takes the fun out of things. It's useful for nightmares when I need to kill the monster real quick, but in a normal lucid it only kills the story. I don't want the ability to destroy an entire planet with my finger, but I still want smaller magic like summoning dragons and breathing fire.

To me it's kind of like playing a game with a bunch of cheat codes. At first you're having fun blasting away 100 enemies in one shot and laughing at the shooting 1000 times. Then after about 10 minutes you're completely bored because there's no challenge.

I like playing god when it comes to large scale epic fights, but I'm usually pretty humble in "normal" situations.

#2 for the same reasons. When it comes to adventurous lucids (which are my favorite kind), I find it much more enjoyable to be a powerful character within the scenario, but I leave many of my powers up to chance. I try not to control my DC's - unless it's a specific goal that I have at the time - and I will usually try a 'power' to get myself out of a situation, rather than erasing the situation, altogether. I relate adventurous lucid dreams to video games or other virtual environments - in that it's fun to run around and have Godlike powers, every once in a while, but I'd much rather marvel at the dream characters that are strong enough to actually present a challenge.

It's somewhat mixed for me- I like having total control and maneuverability of my dreams, playing the role of an all powerful character, being able to conjure up the most radical, epic, and monstrous of beasts to aid me in glorious, glorious combat. When I was young, I was very "low", so to say, I usually didn't have any control of what I was told to do, and I think that stems into the side of me that urns for more power, but I've left that behind...

More or less, I prefer to be the regular character, just going along with the story [but I do smuggle the magic spell here 'n' there..], and enjoying the world around me. Somewhat like the Minecraft seeds thing, my dreams have created quite the beautiful landscapes.

I find the more I try to play God, the more my dream and its characters rebel. When I relax and become lucid and let the dream flow, harmonizing my will with the surroundings, it becomes blissful.

Figures that I would get completely f'cked by my previous post. Had a semi-lucid nightmare last night, in which nothing worked, and I spent most of my time running away from an immortal, invincible serial killer. Tried to throw some 'Hadouken' fireballs at him, at wasn't able to conjure up a single one. The only thing that actually worked was when he tried to throw an unlit molotov cocktail at me and I 'force-pushed' it back at him before waking myself.

Ah, the humbling throes of defeat.

Looking back, though, it was an absolutely insane dream that I'm glad I experienced.

Spent too much time IRL being beaten up. I like to be god. But a nice god. Still a god who gets whatever she wants. But still a nice god. dess.

      #1: why?
Because you may hardly ever have this sort of influense on how things go again. you can create entire worlds change anything from the grass to the weather. i think it would be amazing if i could have a "god" dream. that's just me though. if your life is actually awesome u probably dont feel the same

There's nothing quite like having absolute control over the entirety of your dreamscape.

That said, I only prefer total control for the purposes of deeper exploration and experimentation.

Possessing a corporeal form is necessary for some of the more...enjoyable aspects of LDing. As such, I don't strictly prefer one style over the other.

I enjoy having complete control in my dreams. If I really want to go on just being a character in something that heavily resembles my waking life, I'll just stay awake or stay non-lucid in all of my dreams. I lucid dream to escape my mundane reality, not relive it.

The 2nd of course, went all-powerful for a while and got bored quickly, so used that power to create a world where I would have rules, laws and limitations to make myself weaker, its been a lot of fun so far.

I like to have control, When I feel need for a challenge I just summon "someone stronger than me".Though I don't fly around blowing random stuff up, I like to use as few powers as possible; I dream humbly.

Well, I guess it just depends. I really like to explore, that's probably my favorite thing to do in LDs, and to learn more. Though sometimes it can be hard to not be omnipotent, it's only fun sometimes.

"God" can be a tough term, considering all the religious and mythical baggage it's accumulated over the centuries. But if you really think about it, even a god is still just a creature, or force perhaps, of nature and thus subject to all things natural, including surprises, disappointments (do you really think the Christian God is happy with us?), and truly uncontrollable scenarios.

So, I believe it is possible to be a god in my dreams, enjoying full control "over all things" as it were, and yet still find myself surprised by circumstances I hadn't anticipated, or annoyed/delighted by the unexpected actions of oddly willful DC's. And from that I learn to adapt, create, and explore in ways I'd never I imagined before my establishing my dream god-hood.

Bottom line: if you're ever bored "playing god," you might be doing it wrong!

i guess i could say im a mixture of both since i cant die (ive been stabbed and shot multiple times in dreams and kept walking other times no one gets the chance to touch me since i either push them/crush them/or teleport them away) and i always have powers specifically telekinesis like powers were i can just lift and crush anyone i want, the only thing that bothers me is that there this big alien monster in a few of my dreams that i just cant kill and hes always killing my dc's (if anyone has any ideas on how i can kill this asshole give me some tips cause i don't like him and he's killed lots of my dream friend)

Both are fun. I'm not going to chose because I love both, it really depends on what I want to do. Fot example, if I want to fight some awesome character, there's no fun in destroying him with 1 snap of the fingers. However, when I want to get some pizza, why waste my time looking for a pizza hut?

This thread has gave me entire more motivation to have an LD, after a while it would get boring, as it would be so repetitve. But it would be awesome at first.

You know I ought to make that my next goal. I'm always trying to control EVERYthing. I guess because I feel I don't have enough control in my real life. So in my lucid dream i can do anything and be anything, and do it or be it to anyone I want. BUT, I always wake up too soon.

You know, I think you can tell alot from a person based on what he or she chooses to do in an LD. What are we trying to work out, as it were.

      1. Try to control too much in an LD >> I wake up.
      2. I try to control too much in life >> I'm stressed out.

      or

      1. I try to relax in an LD, let things flow >> things become more blissful, like Nirvana said.
      2. Try to relax in life, let it flow >> life becomes more blissful.
