Ah I hated shippuden, it become too much like DBZ for my liking. Waiting for one episode each week, where all they did was talk for 20 minutes and fight for 5 minutes. A half hour fight gets dragged out into 10 episodes. I couldnt handle it.

I agree in a sense about ghost in the shell, but because of that i've loved going back and watching them over again, you pick up on the parts you missed out. I particularly liked one of the film - GITS: Solid state society. Though it got some bad reviews, due to a different director or something, it gave new life to the series and a different view of The Major.

I shall check out this Trigun, thanks.

So many great anime and manga to choose from, but some or my top favorites are:

Naruto Shippuden (manga only) – NINJA!
Hellsing/Ultimate – Mostly because Alucard is badass and sexy. I like the OVA Hellsing Ultimate better than the original series though. It follows the manga perfectly.
Darker than Black – awesome story line.
Kuroshitsuji – Sebastian is sexy. The anime should have stopped at the end of the first season though.
Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom – awesome serious gunslinger anime! Highly recommend.
Anything by Hayao Miyazaki. He is an anime lord.
Paprika – Just because it’s about dreaming. Another one I highly recommend.

Just finished what's out of Rosario+Vampire (manga) and it's sooo many times better than the anime. It actually goes in depth to the story and follows a clear and moderately complicated plot

Now I'm starting to watch Elfen Lied. Like 5 minutes into the first episode I was like WTF but it''s starting to be a little bit clearer On episode 5 right now.

Really, I have a couple volumes of Rosario+Vampire but I kind of forgot about it, maybe I'll pick it up again....

Elfen Lied is interesting. Heads up, I haven't read it yet, but I hear the manga is a lot better on that too. The anime doesn't actually go all the way to the end of the story, but it does act like where it ends is the end.

The Elfen Lied anime is going pretty much to the half of the manga. In my opinion the anime does a great job at how far it goes though, if just by any means there would be an anime sequel for the other part of the manga...
While I found both anime and manga to have a constantly high quality the end of the manga is really really bad in my opinion though, no spoilers, but honestly; I did cry. Partially for the story and partially because I really didn't like the end at all. Then again I guess that's the point of Elfen Lied, showing you a cruel world and I'm still happy it did so.

Just finished Elfen Lied (anime) and it was much different than any other animes I've seen. Though I've only seen about 6 animes start to finish this one was more blatantly serious about human society compared to the others which you had to dig a little bit to get the true meaning. I enjoyed it, though it isn't what I would call my favorite out of my repertoire of animes. It did make me think more about people who are ostracized from society in general though. Surprisingly, a youtube comment summed it up nicely stating,
"This anime actually portrays a very real part of the world. The "different", how they are abandoned even by their parents and experience nothing but loneliness. Most of them just succumb to the harsh society and die. The saddest part is, unlike (name) or (name), those who survive, don't get to take out their anger at others rather they are forced to keep it inside and slowly perish under the very burden. Their existence rendered meaningless to the world. I just feel sad sometimes for such people."
I'd still suggest it though to somebody who is interested in anime and prefers a more serious one

Finished up Durarara! last week. As anticipated in my last post it was solid, but not really on par w/ Bacanno! It had some of the same themes and narrative techniques going on, and even a cameo by a couple characters from B!, but overall it was more of a slightly more thoughtful, less 'epic' Code Geass.

If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

I very much liked Code Geass. It appeals to me because of the use of strategies, thinking several steps ahead. I like that.

Friends and I used to go to the Dobie Theater and catch the midnight showing of Akira. It was great. And then we tried it again, under the influence, and the movie was amazing.

So many good anime movies/shows, so little time.

Just finished watching code geass, at least to the end of season 2 (still confused as to whether or not there is a 3rd season), and it was pretty good. Not necessarily my favorite, but very good nonetheless. If there is any continuation I'm excited to find out what happens to
Spoiler for I think this constitutes a spoiler:
but if it ends right where it is I wouldn't be disappointed.

I also started reading Vampire Knight but did not really find it very interesting for some reason. I read up to the end of chapter 5 and just lost interest, I guess. If it is actually very good then I'll finish reading it but I would like some others' opinions on it.

Gantz. Fucking epic sci fi human morality and mortality masterpiece. So much over the top violence, despair, death, and failure. Anyone could die at any time, main characters inclusive.

Berserk. The author has been writing it for 30 years, and he says he's got 20 plus more years to go. Medieval horror fantasy done masterfully. I find it similar to Gantz in it's overall themes and tone.

I gave Fairy Tale a shot and....yeah, no. It's not terrible, but it's definitely aimed at adolescents and doesn't have much appeal beyond that "sex is so embarrassing and oooooh magic!" shtick.

Just be clear that you're talking about the manga--the anime didn't even come close. The live action movies actually were not bad, IMO, but more as big crazy fun action movies than anything deep. I suppose they'd be a decent mindfuck, too, if you weren't familiar w/ the story.

Yeah, I'm talking about the manga. I couldn't even finish the anime. I watched five or six episodes but it just felt so.....lame. Somehow everything that was cool, frightening, or sad in the manga was just embarrassing and bland in the anime. I don't know how they managed to fuck it up so much. I haven't watched the live action movies for fear that they'd have the same quality as the Battle Royale movie. I'll give em a shot.

Also. Taosaur, since you like Gantz, you should check out Berserk if you get a chance. It's pretty great.

And another thing, everyone needs to go watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica. It's NOT your average, everyday mahou shoujo. I probably never would've watched it if I didn't hear that it was a dark variant of the genre.

Code Geass R:3 was supposed to come out this year, but Bandai(or was it Sunrise?) has decided to stop putting out stuff like this in the American market, instead leaving stuff like that up to other companies. As I understand it, the status of R3 - Requiem is still up in the air, but it's strong and will probably get made.

      So...cross fingers?

Berserk is definitely a great manga indeed, the anime is nothing more than a tiny introduction to the manga, and is yet again not up to par with the manga of origin.
Not sure about the movies to come though, they might be good and they look good.

It's indeed very unnormal, and that in a good way, I don't like Mahou Shoujo anime and even with Madoka that's a fact but I don't regret giving in to all the recommendations I got for Madoka.

Oh god, have you ever watched the English dub of Berserk? So hilariously bad. There's a new Berserk Anime coming out pretty soon. Looks really good.

I don't even know which dub it was anymore, it was quite some time ago, but it wasn't that good so it might be the english one.
All the few ratings I found for the new ones are pretty high and it looks good to. I could definitely say I'm a bit hyped.

      1. Excel Saga - Manga only. The anime blows. Nothing gets me laughing more than this epic series, especially from volume 8 on when it's less random.
      2. Big O
      3. Betterman - Anime from TechTv. Found it more smartly written and riveting than, say, Neon Genesis Evangelion.
      4. Code Geass
      5. Death Note - Only read manga.
      6. Natsume's Book of Friends - Decent slice of life manga and anime.
      7. Trigun - Manga moreso than the anime, but both are good.
      8. Berserk - Only so low down because the story is tending to drag on in latter volumes.
      9. Gantz - Pretty tired of this series from watching it so many times, but the manga is still going and is good.
      10. Digimon season 1-3. xD

Honorable mentions: Doremi Ojamajo (It looks childish, but it's ridiculously funny), Samurai Champloo, .hack//sign, Claymore, Utewarumareu... and a lot more.
