Just finished up The Help. It deserved all the awards--great film.

      The Avengers.

Pretty great - though The Hulk seemed to be the only undefeatable one.

      The Avengers
      7/10
Overall pretty good except I didn't quite like the story and it's just hardcore action.

      Dark Shadows
      6/10
Nice flow and transition of scenes, as expected by Tim Burton, I like the comical moments from Johnny Depp too but the story is weird.

Din Tao: Leader of the Parade (Taiwanese Movie)
      8.5/10
It's really touching, I can relate to the story in real life since it's from a real life story. There are scenes that are rather funny. Acting is good and some ideas are rather unexpected.

I saw a cyberpunk film noir a couple days ago, called Renaissance, and it was pretty sweet. It was produced and set in France, but it's in English. It's rotoscoped, which is always unusual, but it's done in a really distinctive way: literal black and white, not grayscale, but great slabs of highlight and full dark. It's odd at first, but I got used to it quickly and after that it worked really well.

      Just watched Prometheus. Dammmmn!
So intense. So epic. Yet so dark.

It was a pretty damn good......
      Spoiler for Prometheus:

I thought it was epic how it was dead silent during the Life of Pi trailer. Can't wait to see that in 3D!

      Prometheus -- B

Should have watched the Alien series before I went and watched this (I have seen them, but not for years) -- but feel that this was a well-made movie. A pretty good dialogue, good cinematography and the plot was decent. The ending is what I assumed it would be. I don't see how the 3D made it any more enjoyable, just more expensive for me, but I do think that if you are a fan of science fiction, it is worth the price of admission, especially if you are familiar with Alien.

Brilliant beyond words. And it's forcing ideas into my head. What should I do about it?

There were further explanations of dreams, ideas and totems in the movie which will save me reading chunky paragraphs which explain the same idea. It was done in a simple way, my subs saved me too, but I am curious how many people with no concepts of dreams are able to capture the meaning even through the simple usage of words. I am glad I spent some time with DV or the me from one year ago wouldn't have understand.

Saw The Avengers last night. It as okay, just not my kind of movie I guess. I'm not a huge fan of superhero movies so I guess that's why I didn't enjoy it as I could have. The story was really bland (bad guy comes to earth -> Avengers save the world -> happy end with no serious plot twists). The action was okay, but there were so many random pauses in between for pointless dialogue.

Look at me, being all movie critic-like.

Watched Secondhand Lions again today...not the first time I've seen it.

It's a little hokey at parts but it's a happy story. It feels good to watch it all the way through.

Had a bit of a DC marathon the other night, after a friend had recommended Superman vs. the Elite:

It was pretty awesome. I loved the way we got to see Superman really let loose at the end (though I think he was still holding back), and be a complete badass. Good stuff. I also really liked the character of Chester. Made a great and charismatic anti-hero.

      Batman: Year One:

Also great. An animated retelling of the comic that inspired Batman Begins. Great animation and some really good voice acting, for the most part. I like how much the story followed Jim Gordon, who was just amazing in this.

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths:

This one was pretty good, though I don't think I found it as compelling as the other two (though, by that time, I was pretty tired and buzzed). Not bad, though. Loved the face-off between Batman and Owlman.

Quite good. I enjoyed the alternate, fictional reality aspect coupled with the noirish appearance. And Jennifer Jason Leigh exuded a lot of attraction. It basically entertained the thought: how do we know what we're experiencing is reality? It didn't appeal to tons of futuristic gadgets like other films, but instead bizarrely relied on 'biological hardware'....the presence of such should immediately make you realise it is not reality the characters are experiencing... but it doesn't - you go along with it. Pretty clever.
