Thread: Chicken or Egg- Which Came First?

For your local news to say that the chicken came first, is to say that evolution doesn't exist What news do you watch? Fox?

No It was TMJ4 news. They only spend like a few seconds talking about it and didn't explain why or how scientists found out that the chicken came first.

Can we get a link to the story by any chance?

I looked on their site but couldn't find the link to it



edit: I found a link to a news article that says the chicken came first. It came out today so that is probably where they got it from.

Evolution is still a theory.

As is gravitation.

The chicken and egg thing: if it's any egg, then the answer is egg, as reptiles etc. came before chickens. If it's chicken eggs... the only ambiguity is how you define the question.

If a chicken egg is an egg made by a chicken (i.e. the species change from pre-chicken to chicken involved genes in egg-creation), then although the first chicken foetus obviously preceded the first chicken, it wasn't in an egg from another chicken (bearing in mind that the egg shell etc. is made by the mother, not the child), hence the chicken was first, which made the first true chicken egg.

On the other hand, if the genetic change which caused the transition from pre-chicken to chicken did not involve the egg-making genes, then the answer is egg, because the eggs are all the same and the only thing which differentiates them is if they have a chicken foetus inside or not, so the egg precedes the fully grown chicken.

In reality though there is not really a single moment at which a species can be said to change into another species. It's transitory.

I don't know how popular paleontology is, but eggs have been around a hell of a lot longer than chickens.

The chicken must come first because in order to have a chicken egg, it must be created from a certain protein from a chicken.

Basically, what you guys are talking about is Creationism vs Evolution. Evolution sides that the egg came first due to a mutation from a species that is evolving. Creationism supposedly sides that the chicken came first.

How the hell do Creationists know for a fact God would instantly manifest a chicken first that would then lay eggs to propagate? Just as easily, an egg could have been instantly manifested, which grows up to a chicken, then lays eggs to propagate. The whole argument is ridiculous.

Really, it is most likely that the egg came first with or without a Creationist viewpoint. Organized religion is essentially trying to create an argument that is innately flawed. It doesn't matter if it is Creationism or Evolution, it is pure logic.

Hold up, let me go check the Bible to find out which came first. /sarcasm

Actually, the chicken came first. Research has found that the modern-day chicken egg is the product of a genetic mutation from the first chicken. The shell requires a specific protein that was absent until the first chicken as we know it today evolved.
