      What's kept you interested?

I've been trying to lucid for a very long time. I used to be really into it when i first started (about a year and a half ago). I got 1 or 2 few second lucids and I remember how amazing it felt and how real it was. But I got away from it for a few months (during intense final studies) and I've been off and on since then trying to get more but I just realised that im not interested in it anymore. I've tried taking breaks and when I think about a world thats as real as this and that I can do anything is, i know it's amazing but I can't truly think that like when i first started. And i think that is directly related to why i haven't been able to get any lucids in a year or so.

So i want to know whats kept you've interested or kept you trying when you failed. What specific things did you reach for (i dont have any specific goals, nothing seems interesting even though i know that things like flying would obviously be awesome, i just dont feel it) or how did you keep it fun?

Any help is really appreciated, i might quit if i cant find something that makes it fun and that would suck.

What's really kept me interested is the sheer immensity of it all. You can do ANYTHING. Go ANYWHERE. Even stuff that doesn't even exist. Just coming up with stuff to do keeps me in it.

Hey Brock ask in the attaining lucidity section. Just list your problems and try hard.

I got out of it for a while to but i quickly snapped back into because Lucid dreaming is such an amazing expierence that does not take much time to practice. Also try reading about it and indulge yourself in the subject, theres youtube videos and a juicy podcast called getlucid which juices me up to get lucid.

      This damn forum.

I don't visit often anymore, but I've kept in on my Favourites bar and it's a constant reminder, regardless of whether I post or even visit to read or not.

Every once and a while I'll cave and stop by to say hi, get caught up in the fervor of the community once again and notice a string of short lived lucid dreams. Once that happens usually something in life gets in the way, I drop of the face of the earth for a spell, and ultimately the cycle continues.

The idea of having surreal lucid dreams every night, or having experiences similar to Hyu's.
I won't stop trying to lucid dream until this goal is accomplished, and even when it's accomplished, I won't want to quit because of how awesome my dreams will be

One of my goals in life was (and is) to find/develop a sort of drug that is perfect. Don't take it too literal though, it doesn't have to be a drug, it can be anything. 'Being perfected' can also be interpreted widely, it can be feeling great, it can be your own world with full power, etc.
That being said should make you understand why I can't give up on LDing no matter what. It's my goal in life to attain it

spartin- this doesnt belong in attaining lucidity because it's not about attaining lucidity

and i've read a lot about LD's lately, its been most of what i think about, I think if i could just have another lucid like when i first started id remember why its so fun, but i havent been able to get one, im guessing ill just take a break until something happens that would replenish my energy and I'd be able to stop thinking of this as a failure every single night (kind of depressing). maybe it'll be fun again.

Try making a dream saga, with recurring places and characters and plots and the like. Making a more stable world somehow adds to the appeal, for me. Escapism at it's finest.

The adventures I remember from past dreams and the ideas to make them better and to make even more experiments on myself, ofc.

I just don't stress over it. Usually, I think about dreaming only when something unusual happens in real life, when I wake up, when I go to sleep, and when I'm at Dream Views. What you don't want is to get disappointed every time you wake up and only had a regular dream.

This. This tells the full story. Not having an LD is >>NOT<< a failure. It is more experience. Some of my best dreams ever have been non-lucids. Stressing out over it is pointless and makes it even harder to LD.

The thing that anything can happen keeps me at it, for example a few nights back I was pleasently surprised: There was can of cola attached to a pine tree on my backyard, I drank it and it boosted the vividness of the dream.
      Lucid dreaming since September 2011!!!
Lucid goals: Jumping out of a car going at high speed and crashing into an oncoming car, completely destroying the car, leaving me unharmed. [ ],
      Visiting moon [x], Proper flying [x], Stabilizing an LD perfectly [x], Shoot lightning/lasers out of my fingers [x], Shapeshifting [ ], Fly a helicopter [ ], TOTY 2013 [ ], Change dreamscene [x].
      Lucids: 16 crappy, 15 good, 5 awesome.

I love psychology and lucid dreaming is an awesome experience to develop and try to answer questions in some fields of psychology. Also, I noticed that I can't spend a day without thinking/reading something about lucid dreaming. It's no longer a simple routine or goal, it's something that has become part of my life. So many questions I ask myself about the subconscious and so many times I hear my own answer "lucid dreaming will help you find your answer".

And it's both my playground and my "secret door to mysteries about myself" I guess

      What Zoth said ^

To keep me motivated I just keep a goal in mind, and practise visualising it throughout the day, so once I get in a lucid i'll know exactly how to do it and have no doubts.
My best lucid so far, the first thing I done was bend a lampost in half (to prove my family i was lucid mind you) i done it flawlessly because I had been visualising bending and morphing the enviroment for a while.
Where as flying, I dont ever visualise, and couldnt fly for shit in my lucid.
Atm im focused on creating fireballs

Whenever I'm feeling discouraged or bored, I go back and read some random dreams from my old dream journals. It is very inspiring. Knowing that it all came from your mind is a huge confidence boost.

Well I guess for myself it's because I want to do the impossible. In a dream, you can create fire in the palm of your hand, you can fight somebody ten times the size of you and still win. The thought of being able to do such things has kept me going personally. Once I gain the ability to become lucid regularly, that'll be something awesome.
