      What's your reason?

So, why/how did you all get involved in Lucid Dreaming?

For me it started from an early age, I was always fascinated with dreams and how they worked, why we did it and if they were "real", the idea of controlling them at first was merely a fanatical thought, a mere idea of the impossible, what it would be like to do it, I read up on the internet and found out that many people claim to have done it, from then on I was obsessed. This escape from reality and into a world in which anything was possible, that would let your mind roam free from the shackles of reality, a world in which you could be anything... do anything and the best part was, you could do it every night.

      So, what about you?

Before two years ago I never gave dreams a second thought. When I remembered them I enjoyed sharing them with my family but I didn't think of them as anything my than just illusions. I didn't realize they could be a door way to an entirely different world were the only limit is what you can imagine. I found a video on youtube that talked about lucid dreaming and I was hooked. I joined dreamviews that night and bought Stephen LaBerge's book Into the World of Lucid Dreaming the next day. I had to know everything there was to know about lucid dreaming because it was the coolest thing I had ever heard of. Anything seemed possible all of a sudden. The idea of of going on adventures in a world of pure fantasy is what really intrigued me. You can go meat your favorite movie characters one knight and go to the lost city of Atlantis the next without ever leaving your room. Because of that I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want to lucid dream!

I've had lucid dreams inconsistently since childhood, and I've always found them to be fascinating. What sparked my recent interest is that I've been having frequent nightmares, and I am looking for a way to control them.

I've had lucid dreams for years, and I wanted to find out more about dreaming. I didn't even know the term until I started looking around the net. I found this site perhaps a couple years ago but forgot all about it and didn't join until this year when I started looking up information on dreaming again. Plus I used to be an admin on a local forum years ago and since it's gone I've missed the community atmosphere. It's nice here at DV.

      Ohoho.

Haha, anyway, I agree with you MadMonkey. As well as the other things that have been posted here. I've always just liked dreams. Found them to be an invaluable source of intrigue, comfort, and pleasure.

The idea of controlling them thrilled me more than anything I'd ever heard. I wouldn't have to wait for the perfect dream, I could make it, and all the more, be completely conscious for it instead of half-asleep within my dream! That was enough to get me hooked.

For me it's a new frontier, but my goal isn't just to bring back maps... but slaves and gold.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

When I came to know about lucid dreaming, then I’ve had 3 lucid dreams. And after joining this site, I’ve had 2 more lucid dreams.

I don't need Stephen LeBarge or anyone else telling me about lucid dreams. I experience them often. It is kind of like heroin (not that I do heroin)... if you have an LD there is nothing like it on the face of the Earth. They are 'real' and spiritually uplifting. However, if you have not had one I can imagine it is like trying to imagine Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny.

I had an idea of what it was but I didn't know about controlling dreams and how awesome it really is. I saw a thread on it on another website and looked through it and was amazed.

I thought it would be awesome to go to this beautiful dream scene, conquer my fears, and find out more about myself.
I was so much older then, I'm younger then that now.

A few nights before searching information about dreams, I had a couple lucid dreams. Just normal, weird stuff people normally dismiss. I would always feel different, even if I couldn't do much. It scared me a little. About 2 days after I was bored and decided to look it up. Read as many articles as I could then BAM! Hooked like a fish. (Badum Tsss)

Of course, not only did I want to do it for fun. I consider myself a lonely person, as I like being by myself and don't like a lot of people, no matter what (Unless it's the internet XD). Being by myself often leaves me time to think about things, and the more I think about one thing the more attached I become. When I learned about Lucid Dreaming, I saw it as an opportunity to get more free time. I also saw it as a chance to build up on things I've long forgotten, learn things I had also forgotten. Things like that.

I really like the sense of freedom and solitude I get from dreams, since I usually have no DCs nearby (Unless I'm Lucid and I choose so). I see LDing as a time to get away to have more time to be to myself without being bothered.

Lucky, you had a couple of LDs before you found out about it?

One of my friends mentioned something about lucid dreaming and it sounded amazing to me! I decided to look it up and found this site. The idea that you could do something that would normally be impossible in real life appealed to me the most. I wanted to do everything right away! After reading around the site, I decided to join.

I was about 14 years old, around 1985 and my mom had friends involved with "New Age" stuff. I was given the Castanada (Don Juan) books to read. In them I read about LDs. So my first goal was my fascination with magic. I wantedbit as a magic tool, and did not realize the sure fun of it. No internet commonly available, but I did find a few books. It took me until about 17 to start having any real success.
I found a Kundalini instructor when I was 17 and he was the only prrson other than me, who had any involvement with LDs. I had been correct that it would be a needed tool in my pursuit of magic, but by then I also saught spiritual growth. The instructor taught me the basic dream yoga skills and Ai- Ki-Do for about 5 years. By that point I was very good at it.
It has been a key tool in my path, as well as fun. Having DV is an amazing gift. Think of how lucky you are! In those days you had to go search for knowledge and much of it was still secret. Yay for DV!!!

I saw it on a website last year, then started to research it a lot. I saw this website, and after I had my first lucid dream I came back to it, lurked a bit. A little while ago I signed up because I want to get into it pretty seriously.
