I'll write you up a guide but please check out the wiki as well. It is full of good tutorials.

      Step 1:
Decide what technique(s) you want to use. DILD and WILD are the most popular choices for a beginner. I would recommend DILD because I don't think the rehab facility will appreciate alarms going off at 3 AM.

      Step 2:
Start keeping a dream journal every day. I can already see you have some DJ entries just remember to keep at it.

      Step 3:
Start doing reality checks. Choose one or two that you like. I like pinching my nose and trying to breathe through it. Remember to actually test reality when doing a RC. Don't just go through the motions or you will dream of reality checking and not not become lucid.

      Step 4:
Start looking for dream signs. These are things that appear frequently in your dreams. If you see one of your dream signs while awake remember to reality check. And hopefully when one appears in a dream you will RC and become lucid.

      Step 6:
Learn about stabilization. Stabilization helps you remain lucid and stay within the dream. Use your senses to synchronize with the dream. See what you can smell, touch some objects. This helps to solidify the dream so you can have more fun.

      Step 7:
Choose a few dream goals. These are simply things you want to try in a dream. Flying is a popular first goal. Think about your dream goals while awake so you know what to do in your lucid dreams.

      Step 8:
Become lucid. This may take only a few days or it could take months. Keep at it and don't become discouraged. Once you do become lucid remember to stabilize the dream. If you first lucid is short don't worry you will have loads more.

      Step 9:

Work on dream control. There are so many different opinions about dream control. I recommend you find what works for you.

      Step 10:
Improve. Just keep practicing and getting better. Soon you will become a lucid dreaming God.

      I hope this helps.

Odds are that in rehab, the people you see and the activities you'll be participating will be all really monotonous. As you'll probably be seeing the same people/doing the same things, why not turn a couple of them into dream signs? Reality check every time you see X person, every time you do Y thing, and so forth. Hopefully this will carry over to your dreams whilst you're there. Good luck.

      whitedreams,

I also wish you luck with rehab. If you WANT to improve your situation, you WILL improve your situation.

You've picked an excellent goal to work on while in rehab. Lucid dreaming is free, has no risks (unless you have certain mental health issues), and provides people with an opportunity to have great fun. It does however require a lot of effort for most folks (me included). And I think that is fine. Most worthwile endeavors in life require effort, but the payoff is well worth it!

Keep in mind that you may succeed in having your first lucid dream very quickly, or it may take a long time. If you don't succeed quickly, don't let it get you down. Enjoy the journey.

You should thank zebrah for the DILD guide. I will type you a MILD guide.

      Step one:
Start and keep a dream journal. They are really necessary for dream recall. You wouldn't believe how many times that I have forgotten a lucid dream that I wrote down, and then I read it a month later and it all came back to me.

      Step two:
Think of a mantra. A mantra is a phrase, or even a word that you keep repeating over and over. The one that I normally use is "I need a lucid dream". Don't just say it, think it. Think of what it means, and how important it is. Since your saying "I need" your mind will think it important. Also as you say it do something like snap or fingers every time you say "lucid". That away there is emphasis on the word lucid.

Remember that I use the word say loosely. You don't have to say it out load just do it in your head.

      Step three:
Remember that MILD means mnemonically induced lucid dream. Mnemonically means obsessed, so obsess yourself with lucid dreaming (since you will be in rehab you won't have many other things to do). So on your spare time take a pad of paper and write "I need a lucid dream" over and over (obsessively).

      Step four:
This isn't just for MILD but I really suggest it, use dream incubation. Before bed sit down and imagine the dream that you want to have. This won't only help with having a lucid dream but it will also help with remembering your dream goals.

Side note: MILD takes a lot of work in the beginning but definitely pays off in the end.

Wow, this is an old thread. I remember this thread. It's great to see that there is still some kindness left in the world after all.
