Post Your first successful lucid attempt

I thought it would be nice if we share our experiences about LDing. Write about the first time you successfully had an LD and which technique you used.

I havent had any LDs myself

Its only 3 seconds, but a major confidence boost. A couple days later, I had my longest lucid dream to date.

Maybe I'm trying too hard or not hard enough...

My first LD was less than 10 seconds lol. I became spontaneously lucid in an university and I tried to walk but I just couldn't, it was like I was moving through invisible mercury lol And then I just woke up (really woke up, not a False Awakening).

It was very short, but just the sensation of being aware in a dream was amazing, it lasted for weeks, and that got me very motivated to keep trying.

My first LD was probably 10-15 years ago when I became aware that a recurring nightmare was only a dream while it was happening. I would simply wake myself up. I don't remember exactly when my first attempt at it was but it was probably 5-10 years before I joined Dreamviews. Occasionally when I was feeling confident, I would tell myself "lets try my best to lucid dream" (MILD, basically what I do now) and I would succeed. I flew around a lot in my early LDs as that was the only dream control I was decent at.

It truly is a great boost of confidence in your abilities to LD, my first one lasted about 30 seconds, but I felt so empowered and this was a MILD/DILD for me.

Literally the feeling when I become lucid :

You'll get there just keep increasing recall, doing rcs, and repeating mantras

The first lucid dream I had (considering that I knew what lucid dreaming was) happened completely by accident. Like GrannyPigms it only lasted for a few seconds, and the trigger was seeing an old friend of mine have anime/Disney eyes. I didn't lose lucidity because I started screaming or anything--I just got too excited.

The day after I had a longer lucid dream where I did go around telling everyone that we were all dreaming. I wasn't in full control, you see, and although I knew that it was only me I didn't want to be rude to the DCs and included them in on the action. They weren't quite as excited as me though haha XD

I think I can remember, but it was long ago. It was a DILD, and I was in my house but something did not make sense. I suddenly knew it was an LD but everything got foggy and I stumbled trying to move. Then I woke up.

I used WILD straight from going to sleep. Never been able to recreate that, so maybe it was just excitement that made it work. Anyways, I started in my dream bed, left my room and for some unknown reason, found a different bed to lie in. I woke up instantly.

My first Lucid dream lasted about 20 seconds. For some reason, light descended from heaven and said I'm the chosen one for being lucid... Yeah, thanks imagination!

first was un-intentional and came after about 2 weeks of daily vipassana meditation. I was on an alien planet being escorted by a half dozen blue aliens similar to those in the movie "Avatar". I just snapped out of it and everything became very vivid and clear, just like I was awake and was teleported to another planet. This was my first lucid ever and I didn't even know it was possible, so it was jaw dropping to find myself inside a dream. I kept walking along with them, and one looked over and I got the impression from his facial expression he was thinking "oh, he figured it out". The landscape was similar to what you'd find out in Arizona or someplace, red rock, desert.

We were walking up a rock hill about 150 yards wide, with 100 foot tall boulders lining it so you couldn't see past them. Right before we crested the hill I wondered to myself "I wonder whats on the other side?" after that crossed my mind, for whatever reason the palace from the move "Alladin" came to mind (I'm 24 so its not exactly a current movie, lol). As we crested the hill lo and behold, a absolutely massive sprawling city underneath me, with multiple huge towers like the ones found in Alladin (white circular pillars with gold dome on top). The sun (or whatever was providing light) was low in the sky and casting the whole thing is such a surreal light, it was breathtaking. I started losing lucidity soon after this, and dropped back into non lucidity and remember being chased around indoors and hiding out, I'm assuming from my blue alien buddies.

My first LD was about twenty one years ago, I was a freshman in college (now I came back to this hobby after a long break this February). I don't remember any more what caused me to become lucid, but I know it was a DILD. It lasted only seconds, during which time I attempted to sumersault, but woke up instead. The thing that I remember most vividly though was that I felt an elevated adrenaline level throughout the day after that first lucid, a feeling I have not experienced since, I was so excited and energized and just euphoric. I have had much better lucid dreams, but I have never had as good an aftermath as after that first LD.

I was in school, in a classroom, the lesson went on for about 10 minutes real time. After I walked out and then this sudden feeling came to me, it made me do a RC, I tried poking my index and middle fingers through the palm of my hand and it worked! I wasn't excited which was odd, I might of lost lucidity somehow a few seconds after because I walked up these stairs and then I woke up, still it was a good feeling that all my RC's and work had worked in the dream world.

My first LD was about 2 years ago, think I was using DILD. I was in school and I realised I was dreaming. I got excited and started smashing some of the teachers cars I then decided I wanted to transport myself to Times Square. i started spinning however I ended up outside a Premier Inn 10 miles away from Old Trafford in Manchester. I went inside and there was rock climbing and loads of random stuff. I messed about in there and woke up very happy. It felt like it lasted quite a while.

My first successfully induced lucid was a DILD. I did reality checks and dream journalling, research, talking to other dreamers and reading around the forum.

It wasn't grand, I was near the beach and I suddenly realized I shouldn't be at the beach because I have school. I got lucid and summoned a dude. Tried to kiss him just for kicks, but he pushed me away and said I had bad breath. Hahaha. I lost lucidity some time after that.

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

My first induced lucid dream was a DILD. I was about 3 months trying with RCs and stuff until I finally got it. It wouldn't have been a lucid with the way I learned to have lucid dreams. Anyway, it didn't last too much because of I destabilized the dream very quick by merging my self with another DC. The experience was good although I woke up right after that.

I would call my first and thus far only lucid dream a successful MILD. This was around 6-8 months ago, when I first started trying to lucid dream--before I got frustrated enough to give up (which I will never do again btw, starting over SUCKS). I had been doing reality checks for a few days and my dream recall was fair (ironically a lot better than it is now). I had several false awakenings a few nights before--non lucid ones of course. Then, that night, I had a few more.

The difference being, during that last FA, I actually did a reality check when I first "woke up." I tried pushing my fingers through my hand, and it worked! Then, as if that wasn't enough, I tried to push my hand through my bedroom wall, and it worked! I knew I was dreaming, but I'd been reading about how people got themselves so excited during LDs that they woke themselves up. I went to bed determined NOT to let this happen. I somehow managed to keep myself calm and not wake up when I found out I was dreaming.

I went to bed wanting to try and control my dream environment when I became lucid. Remembering that desire, I stated out loud that I wanted to be in a forest. Now, the really awesome thing happened--my house COLLAPSED around me, Matrix-style, into the dirt. It really resembled that scene where Neo and Trinity are about to rescue Morpheus, and those shelves and shelves of guns just slid into place--only my house slid out of existence. It was really cool to watch. And then, trees literally sprang up out of nowhere. I remember feeling stunned, amazed. I guess I got too distracted by my new surroundings, lost awareness completely (I never even had a chance to try and stabilize the dream because I had no warnings that I was losing awareness--it just happened). I woke in the morning, with the biggest smile on my face. I ran straight to my mother, telling her how I became lucid. More interestingly, SHE was lucid that night too, also via a false awakening. It was super cool!

The really odd thing about the forest is it wasn't the huge trees I was expecting. They were scraggly, thin, and looked almost artificial in that they were in perfect rows, with many many rows. it looked very much like the forest scene in Mortal Kombat, where Scorpion tries to kill Johnny Cage, for those of you who've seen the movie. That was my first ever lucid dream--I hope to have another one tonight. That dream, as I said, was over half a year ago, so I'm long overdue for one!

      Spoiler for post:

That was pretty good for your first lucid dream

I usually try to teleport to a forest or field of flowers too, which so far has only worked a bit. A lot of my lucid dreams so far have been in my house and neighborhood, which is still cool to explore in a dream but I usually want to visit a cool dreamscape I haven't seen before.

I don't remember when my first lucid dream was, but I remember it vividly! I didn't really use a normal method, but earlier that day I was meditating in prayer and thinking about different angels (I'm all new-agey like that) so it kinda put me in a deeper mindset I think.

I dreamt I was being chased by something big and scary, and suddenly the archangel Michael came to me and took my hand, and we flew up into the sky. I remember we passed by this huge old tree with what seemed like millions of barren branches, and I looked at it and saw the sun behind it shining through the branches causing this shimmery awesome effect. And my first thought as I saw that sunlight was "Wow, this is so vivid for being just a dream." and that's when it hit me! "Wait... a dream? A DREAM! OMIGOSHOMIGOSH!" and Michael just smiled at me and I skittered and omigoshed all around the sky like some kinda dream fanboy or something

It was also the only lucid dream I had that didn't immediately try to break apart and wake me up as soon as I realized it was a dream. All the others I had to concentrate to keep together.

I was 1 cm close to completing a WILD yesterday, but I got frightened by the HH and moved! I think this counts as success

My first LD? I don't know what triggered it exactly, but I was in a small grey building thing... and it kind of just hit me that I was dreaming. I kicked down a metal door that led to outside, and ran faster then humanly possible... so fast, I lost lucidity and transitioned to a different dream scene. I think sometime after I had my longest lucid on record which was about, 30 min? Yeah around that. Felt amazing, but unfortunanty I've been very on and off with lucid dreaming, because of life >_>.
