    1. Unbelievably Out of Character

      by , 05-16-2016 at 08:35 AM
Like most of the dreams I've been having lately, I can only seem to remember one particular instance of this dream. I was sitting on the couch in my house with my sister. She had come up to visit me the day before in real life, so upon reflection of the dream, it made sense to me that she would be part of it. In the dream, we were watching a movie; I can't remember which one. Eventually, my housemate, David, whose room is near the main living room in which we were watching the movie, came out of his room with his girlfriend. She started yelling at me and my sister to be quiet and shut the movie off. Now, one thing you must understand about David's girlfriend is that she NEVER gets angry, and certainly would never shout at anyone. She is naturally very well-tempered and mild-mannered. So, you can imagine that this came as quite a shock to me. My sister and I just sat there stunned while she shouted at us. It was so strangely out of character for her to do this; it just would never happen in real life. She herself would admit she has never yelled at anyone before. Well, for the rest of the dream, and I think for a while after I awoke from it, I had this feeling that she was actually furious with me, and that something was wrong. But the next day went on, and of course I eventually realized how hilarious and absurd the dream was. I told her about it and we had a good laugh. Anyway, I'm going to try my darnedest to have a vivid and memorable dream tonight. I've got a full container of apple juice, and I'll set my alarm for 4 AM! Wish me luck!
    2. Implementing a New Method

      by , 05-09-2016 at 09:11 PM
I began a new method in hopes of having more vivid and memorable dreams. So far, I can remember one of the dreams I had pretty well since starting this a couple days ago. I usually have been able to get up around 9 or 10 during the week, seeing as how I don't really have any early morning classes this quarter. But I realized I would probably be able to better remember my dreams if I woke myself up around 6 or 7 in the morning, when I would still be in a fairly deep sleep. So the first night i tried this, I remembered a dream I had in which I was thrown in jail for robbing a convenience store. I can't remember much else from this, apart from the fact that I nearly went mad in just the first few minutes of being behind bars (I wonder if this could be any indication of how I would be able to handle, or not handle, prison in real life). I hope to have somewhat more powerful and exciting dreams while putting this new method into use. Last night, in addition to setting my alarm for 7am, I also consumed a substantial amount of apple juice before drifting off to sleep. I used to do this on occasion in high school, and it would make for some pretty vivid dreams. However, it did not really seem to work this time. Well, I suppose it might have, and I may have just not remembered; also, I may have not woken myself up early enough. I think the particular brand of apple juice I used may not have been as effective as the ones I used in high school. Anyway, today I'll try to get my hands on some of the good stuff (Ha! Can you imagine someone referring to apple juice like this?), and I'll also set my alarm a little earlier (maybe 5:30am or so). In addition, I bought the new Radiohead album last night, and boy, I imagine listening to it before bed could make for some pretty interesting dreams. I'll add that to my method this evening too.
    3. Disturbing Differences

      by , 05-08-2016 at 08:43 AM
I cannot remember the context of this dream, but I remember its general theme, as well as the feelings I had about the occurrences. In the dream, I was listening to an album I'm quite familiar with; it was probably a Genesis album. Anyway, one great thing about Genesis (At least '70s era Genesis), is that they often had themes within songs that would resurface in slightly different forms on later songs on the same album, either as like a reprise or just something to help give a sense of circular closure to the album. This is one of my favourite things about them; it can make for some really powerful stuff (Just listen to Duke or Trick of the Tail and you'll see what I mean). So, in the dream, my sense of familiarity with whatever songs I was listening to was clear to me. The song began, and of course I'd immediately recognize it and know exactly where it was going. However, what happened in this dream was something surreal, and I can only imagine what it would be like in real life. Basically, a song that I knew well would start, but at some point during the song, a theme from a song from a different album would come about and somehow work with the music. It was ridiculously strange to me, but the weirdest thing about it was that it worked, within the context of the song. Somehow my brain was able to come up with a way of combining two completely unrelated Genesis songs into one, and it made musical sense. However, it was still pretty disturbing to me in the dream. I think it would have made more sense if my dream self just accepted the weird scenario, as often happens in dreams. But I couldn't really accept it. It was surreal to me in the dream, as it would have been in real life. I only wish I could remember the song and how it worked; I now cannot even imagine what it would have been. I've had similar types of dreams before, but usually with film. A film I'd be familiar with would begin, but changes to the plot and characters would occur, which would be unsettling for me. What could these dreams be indicative of? Do they have some sort of meaning? I feel like recurring dreams usually do...
    4. The Underground Knick-Knack Shoppe

      by , 05-14-2014 at 02:27 AM
I had a dream that my family and I were traveling to some sort of event (it may have been the Kentucky Derby or some wine tasting sort of thing). The place at which we arrived was composed of rolling hills and vineyards as far as the eye could see. I'm a bit hazy on the order of the events, but i can remember that I traveled down into an underground shoppe beneath the rolling hills (sort of like a Hobbit home). It was rather quaint and had many strange items which appeared hand made and wooden in nature. There was only one other person in the shoppe besides me: a young woman with brown hair who was running the place it seemed. It is strange in dreams how you can possess an inexplicable attraction to a simple projection of your subconscious; such was the case in this dream of mine. I was drawn to her, and for some unknown reason, I felt the need to speak with an Irish accent to her. Somehow, I was convinced that this would attract her to me, and it did. We kissed and embraced and so forth. (It was so strangely vivid, and i can recall my emotions in the dream almost perfectly still. I imagine this vividness was due to my rather large consumption of apple juice before going to bed that night.) The last thing I remember about the dream was my sisters, who were digging in a part of the underground shoppe for some unknown reason. That's about all I can remember. Isn't it amazing how wonderfully random and creative dreams can be? It seems you can't consciously make this stuff up. So beautiful, one of the mysteries of life.
