      average age of lucid dreamers

I wonder what is the average age of most lucid dreamers. I am 43 and have had DILDS as long as i can remeber. I thought that everyone dreamed that way and it was no big deal. does the ability to lucid dream go away as you get older? For me it hasn't but i was curious what other people thought or experienced

Generally speaking, as you get older, REM sleep becomes less prevalent. That's really all I know about that.

I can say that generally people do not dream lucidily, and most have to acquire it as a skill.

As for the average age, I'm not sure. I think there's a pretty wide gap, from teenagers such as myself to people your age or older. It's for everyone

Lucid dreaming is for all ages in my opinion. I don't think there is really an average age.

I'm 18, but I introduced lucid dreaming to my 53 year old mom and she has already beat me to it! She had her first LD a week after I told her how to do it, while I've been at it for a couple months and I still have not had one.

Control gets harder and harder the older you get. You set your mind to certain rules on how the world works. If you "free your mind" early on, and realise it's actually possible to fly in dreams, then you will have an easier time with control as an adult.

Most adults give up dreaming and don't pay attention to them, that's why they stop having them. I was not older than 7-8 when I first started.

I don't know what the average age of lucid dreamers is. I'm 29, and I'm pretty sure people of any age can lucid dream.

i am glad there is such a wide range of ages. i have had many DILDS over my life before i knew what they were so i am hoping now that i know what they are i can have more of them. I have read some articles on WILD and have tried to use the info in them and i have had two LDs that i knew of and two that i remember being lucid but i don't remember the dream and this has been in the past two weeks.

I agree with Matte87...dreams can be experienced by ANY age group. Dreams in my opinion are a window into the subconscious of your mind. The same reason the movie "Inception" was so popular was because EVERYONE could relate to it.

Icyquartz is onboard with dreams being for ANY age group.

I am 24 years old btw...

I am 17 in my personal experience lucidity occured WAY more often when I was really young. All of my current lucid abilities were developed at around the age of 5 when almost every dream was either lucid or non lucid with a large amount of control and clarity. As Ive gotten older I havent had as many lucid dreams. I actually googled lucid dreaming to find a way to bring the frequency of them up and trhats how I found this forum.
I accept that my reality is always a dream so if something changes I know I'm right.

As was said before, children, and especially infants, have a much larger REM/NREM ratio. In addition, young children (not sure about the exact age range) tend to fall directly into REM sleep even without any prior sleep. It is likely that a small child would be able to WILD with no prior sleep.

As far as I know, though the amount of REM sleep one gets as they get older decreases at a decreasing rate. You have a ton of REM sleep during infancy, a lot less during adolescence, but not all that much less after 17-20. Ultimately its not something to worry about.

i have been seeing an increase in younger people joining the site (Usually young adults 15 - 18). I think it actually more popular with younger people considering that most older people (40 - 60) have a set view on what the world is and what you can do, and from what I can tell dreams aren't really relevant to them because it's not a big deal, they come they go.
I know my family members don't even care about their normal dreams, let alone trying to seek control and remember the dreams.
      Lucid dream goals:
      1. Get into SP /Check
      2. have a long LD
      3: Fly
4: Have some epic battles with my childhood heroes and villians (DBZ)

I'm 35 and have had lucids since a very young age. I never paid attention to them until about 5 years ago when I decided to start keeping a dream journal. Armed with some dream sign recognition, I currently have about 2-3 lucids per week.

Here's something related http://www.dreamviews.com/f16/offici...-thread-87211/ although it doesn't refer exclusively to lucid dreamers but users of the forum so you could have an idea.
      I'm 35 by the way and I'm lucid dreaming since I was 7 or 8 y.o.

Most people on this forum is young 13-19. But LD is for everyone. But it seems like LD happens more in childhood.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride

you say most people are 13-19 but it seems to me at least most of the people posting here are in their 30s or 40s. Out of every forum I have ever joined this one really has the widest spread of ages which says to me that lucid dreaming has a much broader audience than something like gaming or technology.

18 over here. I guess the really old people aren't too involved because this doesn't seem traditional to them, but of course age varies.

I'm 15. I used to be able to always lucid dream when I was younger but I've lost the ability as I've gotten older. The main reason I joined this forum was to try and be able to again.

I read that young children have an easy time of it. I don't know why but it was true for me. There was a month or two when I was 11 that I had many lucid dreams without trying. I was sad when they stopped. About a year ago I learned you could induce them willingly and I've been able to have a few intentional LDs. I'm 24 (tomorrow.)

It makes sense that people of all ages would be interested in lucid dreaming, because dreams are very personal experiences that you can do anything in, whatever of your age or other interests may be.
      It's all in your head.
